Me: Dick Grayson
“The Strange Case of the Diabolical Puppet Master”. Batman vol 1 # 3. By Bill Finger, art Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson and George Roussos.
A lot of people are upset that Batman hit Tim in Batman vol 3 # 71 because a hero shouldn’t hit a kid. Others say it’s just a sign of how troubled Bruce is at the moment.
As a Dick Grayson fan, who has seen Bruce hit Dick in comics since 1940, I’m honestly not shocked… Bruce hitting his kids is pretty much normal, I’m sorry to say. Dick more than anyone, as far as I know, possibly because he has been around the longest.
Though to be fair, I think you can argue that unless it’s part of a plan, Bruce has been under some sort of influence or been going through a rough patch every time he hit Dick. For instance, after Jason’s death, when he was stressed by the Court of Owls, or when he has been hypnotized. Just as Tom King wants to portray Batman as on the verge of breaking, these days.
Now, you can certainly argue that a hero (even of the vigilante model) shouldn’t hit his children, under any circumstances. I’m just saying Bruce Wayne has done it several times, so it’s nothing new about it.
But do I wish writers could stop write hitting people as a reasonable way to vent one’s frustration? Yes!
“The North Pole Crimes”. By Bill Finger, art Bob Kane and Jerry Robinson. World’s Finest Comics # 7
“The Case of the Valuable Orphans”. Art Win Mortimer. World’s Finest Comics # 24.
“Call Me Master” By Frank Robbins, art Irv Novick and Dick Giordano. Batman # 215.
The New Titans # 55. By Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, art George Pérez and Romeo Tanghal.
Nightwing vol 3 # 7. By Kyle Higgins. Art Eddy Barrows, Geraldo Borges, Eber Ferreira and Paulo Siqueira.
As much as I hate the whole hitting thing, I also feel like Bruce’s tendency to get physical with Dick shows a very specific and unfortunately troublesome dynamic in their relationship
In a way it’s very likely that Bruce is more willing to continue doing it to Dick partially because he really does see his eldest as an equal. Someone who knows Bruce from the beginning and understands him almost more than anyone. Even before Dick was sent out as agent 37, they had that huge fight that practically destroyed the cave because to Bruce that has always been one of their ways to communicate. It’s also one of the reasons why Dick has always been the one to be the most confrontational in their arguments concerning issues and decisions Bruce has made that he disagrees with (Jason and Bruce don’t really argue or debate . Jason just goes Fuck You! and leaves)
But the thing is, what I don’t think Bruce understands is the fact that Dick ISNT his equal. Because Dick is first and foremost his KID. His SON. And even if Dick has doubted before what he actually is to Bruce, Dick himself has always seen him as a dad and that’s what makes their dynamic askewed. As much as Bruce feels like their on equal ground together, they’re not.
So when he raises his hand to Dick it looks more abusive than anything else because you don’t treat your kid like that. Especially to a kid who’s been shown to be unfailingly loyal to you from day one and won’t really call you out on that particular behaviour cause he himself feels that it’s something normal between him and Bruce.
Though I will amend that a lot of the whole hitting thing is done for dramatic effect more than anything else so frankly writers just really need to find a way to write Bruce that doesn’t make him look like a brutal unapologetic asshole. Especially since faithful and long time readers know he’s more than that.

Playing around in procreate more and playing around with process and style. I’ve always loved artists who work flat so I’m trying to hone in on a look with less render. It’s been fun exploring - as I mentioned awhile back sometimes I feel trapped.
All ppl talk about is dick graysons ass but what about his bright genuine smile and kind eyes and tender, scarred hands. Fuck you
just a normal morning. dramatic. but normal.
i love prince eric. from the little mermaid. he’s hilarious. because he seems like one of the most mild-mannered and unassuming princes in the disney canon, but he is also one of the few to actively kill the bad guy. most disney villains die by consequence of the final battle but are not directly killed by the hero/heroine. most of them fall to their deaths or cause their own demise, and sometimes the hero is indirectly responsible because they’ll launch them into that direction or something, but they still don’t bring knife to heart directly.
but then a couple do. and prince eric is my fave out of those few because up until the final act, he is the most chill motherfucker u ever seen. like he is quick to spring to action during the storm scene n stuff, but otherwise? he’s really quiet n sensitive and runs along the beach playing the flute for his big shaggy dog n he smiles like a lil nerd and gets all cute around ariel and he’s so sweet n everything.
AND THEN IN THE FINAL BATTLE THAT MOTHERFUCKER STRAIGHT UP DRIVES A SHIP THROUGH URSULA LIKE WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!! NO WONDER NO ONE IS TRYIN TO LAY SIEGE TO HIS KINGDOM!! ALL THE NEIGHBOURS ARE LIKE “HOLY SHIT DON’T GO THERE! PRINCE ERIC IS A BEAST! HE’LL STRAIGHT UP DRIVE A BOAT THROUGH YOUR BITCH!”
i love him
At the beginning of the movie Prince Eric, without hesitation, jumps into the ocean, in the middle of a storm, and climbs onto a ship that’s on fire, all to rescue his dog.
Then when he’s convinced some mystery woman saved him, he starts looking for her just to thank her. On his way, he meets some mute naked teenage girl who can’t even walk or dress herself, confirms that she’s not the girl he’s looking for, then brings her to stay at his castle anyway, for no particular reason.
No one questions this, just like they don’t question when he shows up three days later with a mysterious woman one morning and says he’s getting married that same day. At said wedding, several witnesses see his fiance turn into a sea monster, which he then murders by piloting a submerged ship pulled up from the bottom of the ocean straight into her.
A week later, he marries the mute girl and the god of the sea himself rises from the ocean to give his blessings. Again, no one questions this.
I’m convinced that Eric had to have done some crazy insane stunts on a regular basis, cause despite him being so chill and relaxed normally, no one bats an eyelash at any of his ridiculous decisions or incredible feats during the course of the film. Clearly they’re all used to it, and rumours of him marrying an ocean princess would only dissuade potential enemies of his country even further.
a common conversation around the kingdom:
“Did you hear what Prince Eric did this morning?”
“Oh gods, not again.”
prince eric is a retired epic level player character

Happy Birthday Dick Grayson!
As with many people, I’m not a fan of the current direction of Nightwing comics. And that’s for a lot of reasons – how isolated it feels, with so few of Dick’s friends and f…
I haven’t read and thought about it enough to be certain I agree about everything :-) But a lot is spot on. When it became clear that there was going to be an amnesia arc, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, even though amnesia and other people stepping in has been done already (Gordon was Batman, of sorts, when Bruce had amnesia, for instance). But it has turned out quite dull, in my opinion. And the story would really benefit from the presence of Dick’s friends and family! Dick is a central character in the DC universe, friends with just about everyone; at least, he was before Flashpoint, and they had just started to pick up on that in Nightwing before Dick was shot. So how come we don’t get to see how this affects everyone who loves him? When the news came out; when he was fighting to survive; after he left for Blüdhaven…. ? As far as I understand, there has been no sign of how for instance Damian has reacted, Does he even know…? When I saw that panel with DickNightwing in Doomsday clock, and I heard that it is supposed to be set six months in the future, I thought that the future can’t come soon enough!
It seems like kind of a rehash of the whole Forever Evil thing, you know? These are storylines that would have had a major impact on the whole universe had they happened before Flashpoint. But now they fall flat because they’re so isolated. Aside from Barbara visiting a couple times and the one Batman issue immediately following the shooting, how is any of this connected to what’s going on elsewhere? Where’s Damian? Dick is one of the people he’s closest to, I expect a reaction or a visit! Where are Garth and Donna? Now that Roy and Wally have been killed off, you’d expect them to be unwilling to let the other member of their team just vanish without a word.
Yup! I agree!
I think what’s truly sad about this agency thing was he USED to have a say. The more they reset the timeline for other characters the more they took from him, to the point he doesn’t even have any memory now. Pre crisis Dick had a say on Jason being Robin. Post crisis he lost that but that’s exactly Bruces mistake : Jason didn’t even know what Robin meant to the code. then came Tim and they had a brotherly relationship that help both characters grow. He still had a say then. (I suspect Marv Wolfman knew where Bruce’s mistake really was at so he tried to give Dick at least a role in the next Robins development) Then came the 2000 where there was a clear scrapping of Dicks compatent as Robin while Tim became the best instead. Post flashpoint they even took Damian from him and acted like everyone of his brother was somehow better and more worthy than him in the first place, It’s so weird that pre - crisis, Robin wasnt technically HIS ( Bruce was the first and it was from Robin Hood) yet Dick has so much agency over it , but now when they retcon it to a freaking family’s name , from his mom no less , Dick lost it without his consent. It almost cerments my feeling that DC just systematically hates Dick Grayson, looking at how they seems to like the idea of throwing the name Nightwing left and right, while taking the actual persons development and friends and family as well.
