Doing a final project in my stats class, we have to pick a subject and collect data on it. We need at least 100 data points, and I figured this blog is big enough that a poll on here could get to that pretty easily!

For starters, the vertical orientation of the work guarantees that the viewer will see it from top to bottom, making excellent use of the medium. It is just slightly askew from being symmetrical, immediately leaving the viewer off balance but curious to look further as their gaze trickles down the piece’s middle to the eye catching block of white that dominates the work.

At that point, the viewer would likely notice the gorgeously rendered anatomy surrounding the white block and experience the work’s first strong emotional beat: libido. From there, the eye is drawn back up the torso to the obscured breasts and the mark upon them, before settling back down onto the text, which the viewer should likely understand the work’s messaging around censorship and feel a twinge of anger at being held back from satisfying their libido, not because of the artist, but because of those who forced its censorship.

Among other things I appreciate about this artwork is the aforementioned mark on the chest. A clean cut on the skin is generally indicative of a person’s unsafe environment or even self destructive mindset, but the placement of the cuts specifically on the breast, along with the intentionality of the X-pattern and the work’s general suggestive tone, imply that the mark was applied in a sexual act, either drawing discomfort, further libidinal responses from the viewer, or perhaps both.

Additionally, the choice of a purple towel is a particularly well made one. The way it is draped across the body, along with the historic associations with the color purple, paint the subject as a powerful figure, potentially royalty or even divinity. This is juxtaposed against the provocative aspects of the work and adds more to the idea that the censorship was an act of great injustice.

I could continue my critique of the work by bringing in the ways the work comments on and interacts with its political context, but for the time being, this self-portrait by Lily is a very thought provoking and artistically appealing work

See i would absolutely agree with this take but being directly responsible for killing the Knight would tarnish the Potion Seller's name across the kingdom. + the Knight is insisting he's going to die in battle anyways.

clearly this is why your url is pretend-wizard 🙄 we don't know that the potion seller can't make potions that let knights handle stronger potions, all we know is that the potions that the potion seller does have are too strong. if he is effectively a pharmaceutical supplier, he probably would be supplying to other potion sellers lower down on the chain to sell distilled & diluted versions of his potions. but this, like everything, is simply an inference. with our limited facts at hand, i choose to side with the worker rather than the landed gentry.
