āI have had the pleasure of knowing Charmian for over 50 years. She was a gentle, loving lady and always retained a sweet quality that made everyone she met feel special. I believe I speak for the entire āSound of Musicā family when I say that we will miss her very much.ā - Julie Andrews
āCharmian was enchanting as an actress and as a person. She has left us much too soon along with bits of our hearts. We will miss her dreadfully.ā - Christopher Plummer

āIāve barely been able to contain a guffaw when an interviewer askedĀ āWhat drew you to this specific character? Why out of everything did you choose this role?ā¦Are you drawn to accents?āĀ
No. Itās because Iām drawn to good writing and idea and controversy and drama and feeling and emotion all packed into the character of the protagonist-the person who drives the action, not his girlfriendā¦.Why? Because I grew up and was nourished on the legacy of great female stars: the grand and glorious works of Bette Davis and Barbara Stanwyck, Carole Lombard and Lucille Ball, Katherine Hepburn and Greta Garbo.. and many, many others.
These women inspired me. The derivation of that word is from the Latin in-spirare: to breathe life into, to fill with life, to breathe ināand i did. I gasped when I saw these women. It made me want to be something, to achieve something, to express my humanity, my aliveness, my connection to that radiant, important creation which was a woman.ā
