something that i love that the show did in ep 5 was that they had stede and all the fancy men in wigs but they kept ed with his natural hair. sure it was all done up in fancy ribbons and buns but its still authentically his hair. i think its really interesting because it shows that he is trying to fit in but this still sets him apart from every other person on that ship besides the crew.

he doesnt say edward or blackbeard or any of the other more formal names that ed goes by. instead, he chooses the casual, most intimate nickname that stede calls him. stede was so at peace during this conversation with mary thinking about how he really is in love with edward that for nearly the first time in the entire show stede called him ed when talking about him to an outside figure.
