hey so y'all ever think about how law represents humanity and luffy represents freedom. humanity follows freedom's path; that's what their dynamic is. law's devil fruit and his role as a surgeon is akin to humanity seeking to save itself, while luffy is a force of nature offering liberation through the course of fate. they cannot be equals because law's character- his morals, values, purpose- is so intrinsically tied to humanity. his love for corazon and lami is both his greatest reason and most debilitating limitation. he is terribly, utterly human. luffy, on the other hand, does not hold any of those constraints. as a character, he is not so much a person chasing freedom as he is freedom itself. equality and justice follow in his wake because that is the nature of the ideology he embodies. sorry i just. ugh. i love them both so so much i wanna put them in a jar and shake them around and give them cookies.
