Ivica is 0% intimidated by men. Since she isn't primarily attracted to them, she always initially approaches a man from a platonic perspective. If a guy flirts with her the first time they meet, her gut reaction is to laugh in his face.
On the other hand, Vic can fall for a guy. This usually takes a little longer, since his personality has to appeal to her before she even considers him attractive to begin with. It's all about chemistry, and if the bunsen burner flicks on, well. She devolves into an awkard, blubbering mess.
Because she's mostly attracted to women, Vic tends to be more immediately clumsy in what she says and how she acts during an initial meeting with a girl she finds cute. This gets better over time. Somewhat.

DANDYRIOT && PURGATORY
Rummaging through his pack, Murphy found he was doing better on supplies than heād originally thought. The lighthouse had held a plethora of treasures, most of which heād only seen in books and holos of the past. Not that he was really interested in any of those things, it wasnāt like he could take any of them with him, considering his boat had been pretty much shot to hell. If Murph was being honest with himself he was surprised he hadnāt sank like a fucking rock.
Purpose. Jaha had said. Weāre meant for more, John.
It was as much a load of shit as it was a shard of hope glowing bright beneath Murphyās sternum. He could feel it there, the warmth of it burning like stomach acid, harsh and unwelcome.
John knew he was screwed, knew everyone was screwed (or dead, jury was still out on that one). He didnāt need anything putting the faith in him. No fucking thank you.
MREās were pretty shitty, they were not only over 100 years old, but Murphy was pretty sure they werenāt anything to write home about even before. Still they were so much better than nothing, the stale crackers alone were practically gold in the suffering heat of the desert. He munched them down quickly, needing to get a good few more miles in before sunset.
Peering into the remaining bags in the flimsy container Murphy crossed his fingers for something that hinted at chicken (those were the best, fuck the red meat container things, heād rather eat his own rancid shit). Just as he found his booty and hummed in pleasure at the delightful not-beef, Murphy was stunned into throwing the MRE back into his bag, a knife was out and in his hand not three seconds later.
Someone was coming.
Heād heard the shout, but had to turn to see the person scrambling down to meet him. Which was really fucking ⦠strange?
Cocking his head to the side John waited for the person, girl maybe by the voice, to get within range. He didnāt speak as he watched her approach, noting first off that she wasnāt a grounder, of the desert or forest people. Her skin was dark, but pale? Like it hadnāt seen the light of day in eons. That fact, coupled with the style of her clothing pretty much spelled out who she was.
But not how.
Still, Murphy waited in silence, hard grip upon his bag and his knife. He was on a mission goddamn it and he wasnāt about to get hijacked again.
//PURGATORY + justasavxge
She hadnāt had much experience with grounders. Her exposure to anything not quarantined and buried in a communal cement coffin was strictly medical. Grounders were little more than sopping bags of blood in her mind. An unfair assessment, to be sure, but one she couldnāt help. Not when itād been the dirty ultimatum for twenty years of her lifeāsuck down grounder blood, or die. It became a way of life, the status quo for generations.
One quick kidnapping and a field of needle scars winding down her arms had changed things. Made it more personal.
Ivica nearly tripped over herself on her way down. She pitched forward and landed hard on her hands and knees when she reached the bottom. Sharp huff of breath, more exasperation than exhaustion, and for a moment she stared at her fingertips, dug her nails into sand and studied the dark contrast between her rough knuckles and each pale granule of tan.
When she looked up, she noticed the knife. Blinked at it. The guy was far enough away to not be an immediate threat, but a thin reflective glint flickered from his hand and flashed across her face like a threat.
Vic hopped up, dusted off her knees, studied him. Pale. Caked in dirt. A little crispy around the edges. Floppy hair with the most awkward middle part sheād ever seen. He looked like he might stab her if she blinked the wrong way.
A survivor.
She wasnāt sure what to peg him as. He didnāt look like any grounder sheād seen, but then again, she was romping around completely new territory.
āHey,ā she said, voice raised. Far enough away to force a couple extra decibels into her words, but the desert air was still enough not to have to shout. āYou speak English? No stabby-stabby, very no bueno.ā
She raised her arms to chest height, palms forward like she was pushing a large stone in his direction. A placating gesture. Itād suck to die from unnatural causes. Sheād prefer a sandy burial over multiple stab wounds.
dandyriot &&
Sand wedged itās way through every crevice known to him, down his shirt, up his jeans, even stuck in his fucking teeth.
Murphy was sick and damn tired of it, the sand and everything else that composed the desert around him. He took solace in the fact that he was over halfway finished with the trek. Or something like that. He hadnāt exactly been keeping mark of the days the first time around, but he knew he was getting close.
The mine field had made a bit of an impression (it was also what the boy was signifying as his āhalfwayā point), and Murphy counted the second crossing as a great achievement. Even if his legs had felt a bit like jelly for several moments after pushing aside the last mine across the field.
After the solar panels came the mines, and after the mines came Emoriās (somewhat inevitable) betrayal. Though the desert seemed monotonous and impassable, Murphy had an incredible sense of direction. One which led him faithfully to the spot heād been held for ransom at knife point.
Good times.
He slowed his steady trudge to stop there, safe for the moment, and able to regroup while splitting open an MRE. Murphy could see he was running low, but he trusted heād find the forest with another two or three days walk. It would last until then at least.

"SHE SHOOTS AND RUNS, SHE SHOOTS AND RUNS"
The desert was ⦠unexpected. Nothing like the pictures painted on sterile walls back home, gilded frames the boundary between lush imagination and reality. Sheād spent hours staring at those paintings, imagining every texture in every blade of grass, thinking about the smell of fresh air, the heady dirt and dark muck of wet leaves, lavender and rose and wildflower marching into her nostrils. And then, when the moment was taken away, a smiling face drawing her attention towards other things, the close press of cement halls beat through her fantasies, took hold, brought her back, back. Always back. The same rooms, repeated, ad infinitum.
But the desert. It was harsh, transcended beyond anything sheād ever seen, reached further than her limited ideas could ever have allowed. Pale tan bled into orange, fine grains of sand mixed with thick rocks, dark brown, onyx, white. The blended image only refined upon further inspection. On the first day, all of this was beautiful.
By the second, Ivica was ready to dig a shallow hole and die. Flop into any semblance of shade, even if she buried herself alive. The desert was a shit hole. A giant, sandy ass filled with an unspeakable amount of excrement. And she was going to die there.
One more endless mountain of sand, and Vic fell to her knees. Her shirt was ragged on the bottom, olive green, strips of it tied around the top of her head to keep the sun from eating at her brain. Her shoes were already torn from days of travel, littered with holes, the tips of her toes peeking out. Attractive. Dandy. What a fucking riot.
She buried her hands into the sand, stared down the decline, what felt like endless miles. Seriously considered pitching forward and rolling all the way down. Good stuff, proper way to conserve energy. Might just snap her neck if she was lucky.
A dot grabbed her attention. Which was sad enough, as is, but one full day and a half of infinite tan had made the slightest deviations incredibly interesting. A dot. A dot. A sinkhole, a dead animal, a sad tree. A limp kidney. Couldāve been countless things.
A moan.
Couldāve been alive. Worth approaching? Ivica, after a full day of blasted heat, of burns darkening her sore skin, didnāt honestly care.
āHeyooo!ā she yelled down the way, still on her knees. She struggled to lift back up, stumbled for a moment. Finally righted herself, and carefully started down towards the moaning dot. If he killed her, well. Sheād probably kill him too. Just for kicks, something to break the unbearably tan monotony.
