Thoughts/advice/tips on managing burnout?
From most to least actionable:
1. Take time off ASAP. Even a single day or carving out an hour or two of nothing but rest and regaining focus can help.
2. Talk to your manager about your workload. They may not be aware that you’re working in a way that’s unsustainable, and they would likely rather help clear your plate than lose you to sickness or rage quitting.
3. Do less. Ask yourself very seriously how much of the work on your plate actually needs to be done, or can be done by someone else. Get into the habit of saying “no” to incoming requests: again, not everything needs to be done or done by you.
4. Care less. It’s just work. It should be fun at its best, but don’t let the genuine enjoyment of the work/challenge turn into an obsession that can be exploited by the lowest bidder.
