Ngl I’m thinking of re-reading the books because the tv show is messing up a lot of things I genuinely loved about the characters but there are some TWs that I’m not ready for 😬
“aftg is a morally complex series that can’t be taken in black and white”
yes I agree
“that means you can’t hate everyone who hates kevin”
this is where you lose me
"NATLA made Jet's death an honorable redemption instead of a vague punch line"..
Instead of dying as colateral damage after being brainwashed, the plot twist was Jet coming along with the gaang at the Library, and then chosing to die willingly for a good cause after reaching the epiphany;
"I looked in the mirror and became a lying thief; useless to everyone".
He opened up to Katara about how hopeless he felt about the war, and how he distanced himself from the others after arriving to Ba Sing Se because he felt like everyone was better off without him.
Katara gave him words of affirmation that at heart he was still a freedom fighter and did wanted to help.
After all, the fire nation made him an orphan but he couldn't deal with his resentment the way Katara did (fortunately she still got her grandma, her brother and her village) and Zuko had uncle Iroh who was his father figure and helped him find his way back..
Jet tried to recreate his village with the rest of his friends and tried to seek justice but without any guidance he was consumed for his desire of revenge.
And let's not forget the original character was someone willing to commit genocide (including innocents). But on this version he only attacks fire nation refuges and steals from them in order to avoid starving.
Anyway, at the end of the episode he stays behind to hold back Wan Shi Tong and let the others scape..
and it's clear that he dies. But now his character has a proper closure.
Hm. Do ya'll think the last time he saw his all his Freedom Fighters, during the whole Gaipan dam thing, was him having to tell them to split up because he saw the soldiers coming toward them?
The soldiers tolerated a bunch of kids messing with their supply lines for who knows how long but this must've been the final straw, no?
So imagine him trying to justify himself to a bunch of conflicted looking kids, trying his best to avoid looking at the flooded town and the broken dam, and his focus suddenly shifts to the soldiers approaching, fire at the ready.
Possibly after giving hasty instructions to his fighters to flee, maybe using exit routes he'd had prepared for something like this, he just... ran. There's no way he could hold of that many enraged soldiers. He'd distract them best he can but he's feeling less heroic, more like the boy that lost everything in a single night again.
He wanted to run off alone, be captured in their place, give the Freedom Fighters time to get away. But, stubborn as ever, Smellerbee and Longshot persued him. Trying to keep the two of them safe now was his priority.
As they ran, hiding somewhere or successfully getting to an exit route, smoke rose to the skies. The forest was burning. Jet could only watch and hope his fighters got out safely, and that life would be kinder to them wherever they are. And as everything he's built went up in flames.
Smellerbee and Longshot had to see their usually calm leader pace around, angry with himself, shuddering breaths and voice cracks. Maybe he'd punch the nearest object, believing if he'd just been successful in his plan, his family would be safe.
And then his anger would falter. Sokka's words, "Who would be freed? Everyone would be dead." and "No, Jet. You became the traitor when you stopped protecting innocent people." echoed in his head.
He'd look away, unable to meet his friend's eyes. They'd try to talk to him but he'd interupt, "Doesn't matter now. C'mon." And walk off.
I really tried to stay optimistic, but reading interviews about episode 4... wow, I'm sooo okay about them ruining lesmand and Lestat's character by making Armand's love unrequited. I hoped they were at least going to make lesmand frienemies and was ready for it, but according to Sam, Lestat doesn't even hate Armand, and it sure looks like he doesn't care about him, so I guess he's just disgusted by him? Yeah, I'm totally okay, definitely not thinking about going on a killing spree about it. You have no idea just how calm I am about it all.
marvel cinematic universe (derogatory) vs avengers assemble (affectionate)
When you start viewing Armand like a teenager (as Assad said we should) literally everything he’s ever done makes sense. That’s why his decisions are so bad and he’s so impulsive.
He’s 517, but physically he’s 27 (but he’s also possibly physically younger than that and doesn’t remember) but mentally, he’s still that teenager Marius bought from the brothel. Sometimes you look at him and how he’s acting and he’s just so Amadeo. That’s why he often looks like a kid playing dress up in his dad’s clothes and why his mood changes so quickly. The abuse froze him as a kid even after he entered adulthood and then vampirism froze all that trauma and trapped him there forever. He never really left Venice. He never really will.
the sexual assault framing of lestat's turning... lestat's own reframing of his turning as something he had control over/agency in, or otherwise something that was his fault ("serving cunt has its consequences")... the way he portrays it as magnus simply being unable to resist him, and, really, who could when lestat's so captivating and irresistable? delving into your own self-made mythology to protect yourself from the brutal, horrible truth of what happened to you that you already know deep down somewhere... oh lestat i love you. you are loved by me
thinking about the horrific implications of Gabriella loudly fucking Lestat's body double while he actively re-lives his traumatic memories of being turned and assault by a monster who only preyed on men that looked exactly like him
Pulled this one out of the drafts and gave it a little polish. A kiss is always worth revisiting
Lestat: calls Armand a gremlin again
also Lestat: recalls Armand as patient, accommodating, and supportive during Nicki's spiral
armand and louis, being classy: and then lestat and armand went at it on the floor of the balcony
nicki, before he was euthanised: lestat and armand fucked in the wings. they fucked in the theatre box. and of course they even fucked in the place dauphine and the hotel de ville.
lesmand cracks me up “no your honor HE was the one who wanted that cookie so fucking bad NOT ME!!” girl bffr you were both knocking down the bakery door.
