Now for the final out of the three, one of the many villains of Dream SMP and the one with the funniest death. I don’t have many fleshed out plans for the rest of the smp members, so this might be my last dream-team related design. No promises though! I’m notoriously unpredictable.
Also thanks to my discord friends for introducing me to Dream SMP and supporting me through the project! They were a lot of help.

This design didn’t take the longest time wise, but it was the most challenging. I had to take the most breaks in between to remember what looks good.
Like the others, I started with the idea collage to get my thoughts down. I had an idea, but no idea where to go with it. So I started by sketching him with a full business suit. However, there was a problem: Like every artist I have a weakness, and that weakness is slacks. I can’t draw them, it’s difficult for absolutely no reason, I hold an irrational grudge against them.
I gave up after spending an hour trying to draw slacks, so I slept for a night and came back to it in the morning.

Then I had an epiphany, Satyr Schlatt. This might just be an excuse to open my mythology book for an hour and giggle to myself (it is), but it was also a great alternative to not draw slacks. My one issue with the idea is that Satyrs are part goat, and a ram is a male sheep... so I’ll admit I was stretching a bit, but god, I really don’t want to draw slacks. I got over myself and once it was settled I figured out some anatomy and improvised some fluffy legs.

When I got to the color blotching part, I knew I wanted a character with a very dark color scheme, lots of reds and blacks, specifically based off of the Manberg flag. Usually I’m pretty against relying on only red and black in your designs (its a habit we all fall into), so I tried to balance it out with gold jewelry and blue eyes. I still have a feeling that the black is slightly overpowering, but its a big improvement from all of my other color choices. I also don’t know how I would fix it and still make it look okay.
I finished the design relatively proud, in reflection I could have done more with the color, maybe I could have chosen a different suit design so it wouldn’t be all black. Either way, I’m pretty proud of how it turned out! I’m not upset, designing is a learning curve. I can’t learn if I don’t make mistakes.

This design probably took the longest out of the three, and I’m incredibly proud of it!! Techno has the most intimidating vibes out of everyone on the SMP (besides Schlatt) and I seriously respect him for that.
Here’s his design, this took me about 8 hours of work total, with long breaks inbetween. Including breaks, this was a 2-3 day process! I had fun the whole time, don’t worry.

Something took me during this process, some sort of ghost or otherworldy spirit. Because I had to start from scratch, I began with the simple idea collage and then sketched my ideas in my sketchbook. I didn’t want to make techno part pig/boar like other artists, I decided to go in the mask direction. I’m happy with it either way, so I’m not complaining.
I wanted 3 specific thing, flowy shirt, king’s cape, and crown. The style I was going for was kind of like a fantasy ARPG villain.

I had a really solid idea, and once I had it on paper I was able to draw it all out!! Once I was finished sketching I blotched out the colors. The difference between techno and dream was that Techno’s colors were way more open. I was going in with very complex shapes and no clue how to color them. Originally, I wanted to have him wear a chest plate that was half diamond, half netherite. But it just didn’t look good, so I scrapped it. Once I settled, I finalized the colors, made the background transparent, added lighting, and I was done.

of course I changed some things around, but I’m the most proud of this design out of the three. I think techno looks cool as hell. On another note, I’m taking this minecraft stuff way too seriously lmao
So, I’ve been working on a small, somewhat silly project to practice character design. Serious Dream SMP designs. I thought I would share the finished product, along with my process!
(if you’re unaware, Dream SMP is a minecraft SMP series with a... weirdly captivating plot. I got hooked on it a while ago, and I highly suggest it!! if you need a place to start, look at Wilbur Soot’s playlist, they’re shorter videos and the perfect place to start if you’re interested in Dream SMP.)
So far I’ve finished Dream, Techno, and Schlatt. Here’s the first design.
Dream.

So this was the first design I had started, not knowing it would be an ongoing project. You can kind of tell, based on the line quality and the low-effort coloring. I started with a simple idea... collage... of some sort. I don’t know any other word for it, but it’s just images from google I use to get my thoughts and ideas on paper.
This one was small mainly because I had already thought out everything in my head, this was the design I had been thinking on and off for ages, so most of the main ideas were either already in my head or just needed to be fleshed out. I also took inspiration from Dream SMP animatics and fanart, I don’t remember exact pieces, but this design is an amalgamation of my own thoughts and art I’ve seen around the internet. Once I finished the sketch, I blotched out some basic colors.

I wanted to incorporate Netherite, but I was worried about the off purple clashing with the green, or taking away from the green, which is like the most important color on Dream’s skin. So, instead of the chest plate like I had originally planned, I gave him netherite boots with blue pants to make the purple easy on the eyes right next to the green. My thought was that it would be Green --> Blue --> Purple.
I added belts and armor with a reddish brown to bring all of the colors together, and added skin-tight fingerless gloves in the same hue as the netherite. I then added bandages so that the off-white mask wouldn’t look completely out of place on his body.

And there you have it!! My full process for my character design. I’m not a professional, I’m just a highschooler with a lot of free time, and a serious dream to go into character design. But I genuinely had a lot of fun working on this, and I’m incredibly proud of the result!!
I want to post my Techno design sometime tomorrow, that process is going to be a lot longer since I had to start from scratch, look out for it!!
I'm really stressed, and for some reason weekend projects make me... less stressed.

I've been posting for like.. 2 days. I did not expect it to happen to fast. I already get this kinda attention on places like Instagram, but I think the more personal side with the tags on reblogs makes it different. Whatever. Bonk bonk anxiety brain.
I'll be honest... I didn't expect to have such sudden support on Tumblr, and it's kinda overwhelming.
I have really bad anxiety, and it gets in the way of my creative process a lot. I love and appreciate the support I've gotten just from posting like 4 things on here. Hell, my favorite fallout webcomic artist reblogged my courier design and said it looked really good... but I already need a break.
Is that weird? I dunno, I think I just need to calm the hell down.
Anyway, thank you for the support. But for some whacky reason my brain goes into red alert mode when someone reblogs my art.
