You know your âjobâ is really important when you can take several months off at a time each year.

Lord have mercy, I thought it was a good idea to go to the DMV and suit shopping on the same summer day. There was one conservative suit option in my size at the entire outlet mall. Could not find a single professional dress that was long enough, nor a pant without a front butt. One day, when I am rich and have free time, I will open a Big and Tall suit store for women that sells nice, professional women's clothing for women of all sizes year-round.

Creating a life that reflects your values and satisfies your soul is a rare achievement. In a culture that relentlessly promotes avarice and excess as the good life, a person happy doing his own work is usually considered an eccentric, if not a subversive. Ambition is only understood if itâs to rise to the top of some imaginary ladder of success. Someone who takes an undemanding job because it affords him the time to pursue other interests and activities is considered a flake. A person who abandons a career in order to stay home and raise children is considered not to be living up to his potential â as if a job title and salary are the sole measure of human worth.Youâll be told in a hundred ways, some subtle and some not, to keep climbing, and never be satisfied with where you are, who you are, and what youâre doing. There are a million ways to sell yourself out, and I guarantee youâll hear about them.To invent your own lifeâs meaning is not easy, but itâs still allowed, and I think youâll be happier for the trouble.

âHere is the thing about when youâre heartbroken. I think about it a lot. I think that for people who are heartbroken itâs almost like time slows down to a much more gradual pace. And youâre walking around you feel like heartbreak is written across to your forehead like everyone else can see it. And I think the worst part about heartbreak is that⊠If you think about what it takes to let somebody into your life what it takes to fall in love or even just trust someone enough to make a new friend. It takes vulnerability, it takes letting down your walls and letting somebody in and it takes trusting someone. And I think the worst part about when youâre heart is broken or when you get betrayed or somebody leaves you is that the first thing you do you start regretting letting them in, trusting them and being vulnerable. And you sit there and you think âIâm so stupid. Why did I do that? Why did I trust that person? Why didnât I play mind games with them? Youâre supposed to mess with peopleâs heads thatâs what everyone says but I just let them in. Why did I do that?â And I just want you to know that you can regret a lot of things in life and regrets are valid but âtrusting someone, letting someone in and being vulnerableâ are not valid regrets. You should never feel stupid for doing any of those things.â

I love how itâs âThe Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and MISTER Hydeâ as in, yeah, they are basically two sides of the same person but only ONE has a doctorate
#unless your bitch ass second personality helped you write that thesis it is your fucking doctorateÂ
all public school anti-bullying activism is extremely transparent and meaningless
it usually consists of âtell your bully you dont want to treated that way and theyll understand because they Obviously dont want to hurt you because nobody is evil ever! :)â
âtell an adult or a teacher whatâs happening!â okay but what if they dont believe me or think i deserve it or that if i ignore it it will go away, what then brenda
what about when the bully is an adult or a teacher, brenda
âget strength in numbers and the bully will be too afraid to mess with youâ yeah thatâs why the bully went after the person with no friends in the first place, surprise fucking surprise
âIt means he secretly likes youâ That does nothing to help me Mrs. Worst, and when weâre adults itâll be called sexual harassment. But nobody will take it seriously then either.
Thereâs apparently one group of people that itâs safe â perhaps even fashionable â to slur.
This is an opinion piece, and thatâs important to note. I donât agree with everything stated here. I donât think poor white Appalachians have it worse than other oppressed populations, which is not explicitly stated but may be inferred. We do, however, face classism, and weâre one of the few populations that face such considerable classism. Furthermore, consider those of diverse ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds who call Appalachia their home. They are constantly made invisible by the stereotyping and public shaming of Appalachia, which adds to the social injustice Appalachians face.
Important quote taken from the piece:
âThe best I can say is this: if you ask me if Iâm a hillbilly, I might say yes. If you call me one, Iâll be mad.â
My answer: because some liberals have been taught not to stereotype or shame particular minorities, but have never learned the underlying reasons not to do that.
