For the 2-minute film project I started by coming up with ideas for a story. I started to look for inspiration from folktales from around the world. My brother had a book in his possession, about Japanese folktales and Yokai (monster). I found a couple of interesting Yokai and decided to base my story around it. The Yokai I selected where the Nue which’s is a creature that has a head of a monkey, the body of a tanuki, the tail of a snake and the limbs of a tiger. A Jubokko which is a blood-sucking tree and a Kosenjobi which is a type of onibi or demon fire that gathers in places were bloody battles have been fought. They appear as little orbs of blue flames, which float around aimlessly through the air. I took these Yokai and crafted a simple story in my sketchbook of a little girl and a Ronin (samurai with no master) surviving from these creatures.
