"No slutty options? Damn you’re no fun." Sitting down on the bed, she surveyed the other options, reaching out to touch the purple dress. "I see your dilemma…because girl you can pull off both of these." With a grin she waggled her eyebrows. "If you wear the red dress you and I would kind of match. But then…I think edgy casual would be so unique and that is you my little princess."

Her eyes surveyed her friend, realizing that while she was still talking clothes, Dani had gone elsewhere. “Hey,” she said, voice soft. “Penny for your thoughts. Everything okay?” And of course she wouldn’t force an answer, having lots of topics she chose not to venture into herself.

"Matching would be cool... but I think you're right. Purple it is!" she said, pulling off her shirt and putting the dress on. It was perfect- her favorite color, and comfy enough to do anything in. "Things are... I don't know," Dani replied. "It's hard for me to open up, you know? But I feel like I can trust you and I'm tired of bottling everything up."

"I feel so stupid saying this," Dani said as she pulled on her thigh high socks. "I don't think I realized it until he was gone. But I really miss Seb," she blushed. "I felt so connected to him. But I'm always too scared to tell people how I feel." Dani sighed, looking at her feet. "I don't think he felt the same way about me, and that's okay. It's just hard to be alone on Valentine's Day. It's not easy for me to trust guys, but I don't want to be alone forever," she continued, looking up at Sky and shrugging.

Yea, those kinds are rarer than the “Hey, ma!  Come here!”  It kinda just makes you want to stay home all the time.

Actually, it makes me want to flip those creepy dudes off and yell a speech about feminism at them. But then I remember they could hurt me and I walk away super pissed.

Skylar bounded towards the door like an excited schoolgirl, throwing it open and ushering her friend inside. “Oh damn, can’t have you turning into a pumpkin…you’d be awkward to hang out with all night.” Neil had left for work, which meant that Sky was only clad in her underwear and a silky black slip. Her hair was piled atop her head in a messy bun, the one part she hadn’t figured out of her attire. What the heck was she going to do with her hair?

Grinning when she saw Dani’s bag, Skylar gestured down the hall to her bedroom. “Come mon ami,” she said in a fake french accent, “Let us see ze beautious options you have bright with you.”

Dani smiled and laughed, happy to see Sky. She dropped her things on Skylar's bed and pulled out her options. "Okay," she said pointing out a tight red dress, a dark purple t-shirt dress, and a slinky black mini, "Do we want bombshell, edgy casual, or kinda slutty?" she asked. "Wait. Definitely not kinda slutty." She laughed and put the black dress back in her bag. "I would wear the red dress with these blue heels, and the purple one with these heeled booties and lace thigh-highs. And my leather jacket either way. Thoughts?"

Standing there, Dani pondered telling Skylar why she felt so melancholy. Not all of it, that would take too long. But the reason she had been sad and the reason she was dreading Valentine's Day. Dani knew Skylar wouldn't judge her, but she still had such a hard time being vulnerable and opening herself up to people. But she was sick of keeping most of her feelings to herself, and Dani decided she would start to tell Sky some things about herself that most people didn't know.

Dani wasn't quite sure how she felt about the cocktail party tonight. She had been looking forward to it, but so many of her friends had left tumblr recently and Dani really missed them. It wasn't the same without them, but she hoped that the party tonight would help things start to get back to normal. Dani had a huge bag with her and multiple dresses. She didn't usually stress this much over what she was wearing, but Skylar had suggested some "girl time" and this seemed like the perfect occasion.

Dani knocked on the door to Sky's apartment. They hadn't hung out lately, as Dani had been so busy with work, and she missed Skylar. If she was being honest with herself, Dani knew she felt lonely and closed off from the people around her. Dani had always felt particularly comfortable around her, and she had become one of Dani's closest friends. "Sky," she yelled, knocking again, "It's Danirella! Let me in before I turn into a pumpkin!"

Yeah, it’s really different. I traveled enough as a kid, though, so it wasn’t too overwhelming to move here.

Oh, how lucky! I didn't travel much as a kid, but I did get to go to Brazil twice because I have family there. And then in college I spent time in England and France. I've always wanted to travel more.

That's an interesting name. Is there a story behind it? Not that my name has a particularly interesting story... Daniela was my mother's mother's mother's name, and my brothers started calling me Dani before I started to form memories.
