June 13: The Mand'alor and the Prince of Naboo

ok I love this prompt so much. I like to imagine this scenario happens when they both see each other on a regular basis when Luke trains Grogu. But Din has to leave on Mand'alor business and Luke's like 'Oh what coincidence I also have to leave for Jedi stuff :)'

And of course it turns out they are both going to the same event, 'an old republic remembrance day or whatever' as Han puts it. And Din notices Luke's there and is all, 'oh hey Luke! I didn't know you'd be here funny how that works out haha.'

However, Luke, being the little sneak he is, goes, 'it's an honor to meet you Mand'alor.' And Din, who is way too repressed to deal with this rn, does not know what to do with himself

had the thought of jedi!din bouncing around in my head for a while now. it would be so interesting to see how this influences his belief system and how he'd face the responsibilities he now carries. i so fw this, and i so fw both din and luke being both jedi. they would be so wuxia-coded fr.

jedi!din is an intriguing character study for the mere fact that the mandalorians' core principles are founded on attachments, which is basically the antithesis of the jedi teachings. providing for his covert had been his sole motivator before grogu came into his life. being born with the force changes things though, much less being recruited by the jedi.

envision a young din discovering for the first time that he can sense things ordinary people can't. it's a game-changer. maybe the force allows him to save his parents and his entire homeworld from the imperial attack, or maybe it doesn't despite his best efforts. either way, i think he's someone who'd trust his intuition more than worry about the possibility that people will think he's crazy.

maybe a jedi knight finds him in the rubble instead of mandalorians. they teach din how to harness the force, indoctrinate him in the ways of the jedi at a young age. trust the will of the force, don't let your emotions overrule reason, be careful of forming attachments. like any other jedi, he'd probably internalize all this and struggle with reconciling these often contradictory teachings for probably his whole life. maybe as he grows older and navigates the galaxy under the empire's nose he learns that the force is as much a strength as it is a burden.

so what will be his purpose then? would he profess himself to protecting the galaxy and other force-sensitive beings like him out of obligation? would he think of reviving the order like luke has been doing? probably. i don't think din is an idealist though. he could be pushed into doing it if the circumstances called for it — maybe it's luke himself who offers — but din's motivations aren't so grand or ambitious. he'll let the force guide him to places and people that need his help, and probably disappear once his work is done. does he do that out of fear of getting attached and erring to the dark side? or does he just prefer being a recluse? maybe it's a bit of both.

maybe he really won't let people into his life unless grogu becomes part of it. because grogu has always been the one who brought out the best in him, force-user or not. or maybe he gains a padawan or two before grogu, because if they needed his help in harnessing the force like he had he just couldn't refuse.

becoming a jedi will surely shake din's moral compass. though being a bounty hunter makes him morally gray for the most part, his motivator — his purpose in fact — was far simpler. but being a part of the minority that was hunted by the empire for years will make him question his own morality far more often than mandalorian din would have. he'll probably be a lot more reserved, a lot more reclusive, a lot more enigmatic. he'll most likely still be used to operating alone, but the force will always play a huge part in the decisions he makes, just as much as the creed does for mandalorian din. his attachment to grogu would be his greatest guilt after the fact that he couldn't save his parents, and he would struggle in questioning the teachings that had once guided him out of his sorrow from losing everything he'd had.

SO I read @white-rainbowff‘s The Goal Is Not To Fall last night and it kinda rocked my socks so um, here’s their reunion from chapter 14:

“Zeb?!” Kallus gasped the same time he heard. “Kal?!”

Dodonna practically leapt to the side as Zeb pushed through. Kallus choked out a laugh and a sob, throwing his arms around Zeb’s neck and was practically lifted in the air as Zeb wrapped his arms around his waist and held him tight. Kal buried his face in Zeb’s shoulder. Tears filled his eyes. Every part of him trembled.

“Zeb… Zeb…” No other words came to him. He felt Zeb stroke the back of his head, hold him tight around his waist.

“I got you, Kal.” Zeb purred softly. “You’re safe. You’re home.”
