One of the coolest experiences I've had. The Itawayama Monkey Park (located on Mt. Arashiyama) is a wildlife haven with a troop of more than 120 Japanese macaques. You aren't allowed to make direct eye contact or touch them, but that doesn't stop the monkeys from walking right over your feet. There is a little feeding facility where you can spend ¥100 ($0.87) for a bag of peanuts or apples, and feed a few monkeys from the inside. I highly recommend checking it out if you're in Kyoto and looking for something a little out of the ordinary to do.
