happy birthday puppetboy
are people talking about the labor conditions at Taylor Farms yet? like the fact they use enslaved prisoners in their facilities?
are we drawing the connection between worker safety and consumer safety & public health yet?
are people demanding to see the conditions in this place that keeps making us sick? why are the enslaved workers not having the time to use the bathroom or to rest when ill? very few people would shit in front of their coworkers given any choice at all.

Wunmi Mosaku, a graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, has done her share of memorizing pages and pages of scripts.
The ‘Sinners’ Oscar nominee tells Katey Rich about her unique memorization technique: using blue paper, which allowed Mosaku to cope with the dyslexia diagnosis she received as a teenager.

you can only reblog this if you're not racist
huge coming from the site who is so against black art that 'tumblr users are afraid of rap' has been a meme for the best part of a decade. You know that yall are 4channers with pronouns right?
addendum: you can only reblog this if you're not racist part 2
"I am not a vessel for your good intent" goes hard as a line from a disabled perspective. Abled people care so much more about being their idea of a good ally than they do actually being a good ally. They shove their good intent right down your throat and then act surprised when you tell them they're suffocating you.
[ID: An image of a sign with a blue background and with a graphic of a stick figure in a wheelchair at the beginning, resembling disabled parking space signs. The text below the stick figure reads "I am not a vessel for your good intent." /ID]
for those unaware of the situation, an indian engineer, activist, innovator, education reformer, and environment activist who refused to patent his inventions, so that people could use them freely, and built a free school for underpriviliged kids, went on a hunger strike to demand accountability from the indian government for the massive amount of exam paper leaks that have occurred during this current government's rule. his name is sonam wangchuk, and today, on the 20th day of his hunger strike, he was forcefully apprehended by the delhi police, and taken into custody. so far, we have no idea where they've taken him, and during his apprehending, a large group of men forced their way onto the dais he was lying down on(because he's no longer capable of even sitting up in his current state), and held up screens to prevent people from even seeing or recording what they were doing to him behind them.
as a result of the latest paper leak-which was a medical entrance exam-20+ kids committed suicide. this man saw their plight, and decided to use a form of peaceful protest, that indian freedom fighters used, to fight against colonial rule. it's something that has barely gotten any media coverage, as most news channels and newspapers are tightly controlled by the government. there were plans to conduct a peaceful walk to the parliament, and before that could proceed, the police-armed in tactical gear-kidnapped a frail old man, who can't even stand without assistance. this is plain and simple fascism, please talk about it on your various social media platforms to put some pressure on the indian government for the immediate release of this man.
update on this post: we now know he's being kept at safdarjung hospital, and has not been allowed to leave, or have access to his phone or the internet. they have essentially arrested him for practicing his right to peaceful protest. a colleague of mine who works at safdarjung, has not been able to meet him or check on his condition.

This is definitely ‘a discussion for another day’ type of post but I can’t help think about how much criticism Qatar copped for its hosting of the World Cup (and some of it was very valid) but instead of focusing that criticism of Qatar on its use of migrant slave labour to build those stadiums, a lot of it was the same racist projection of Qatar being homophobic and anti-women due to being an Arab/Muslim country but these same western liberals are silent over the US hosting the World Cup despite also being misogynistic and homophobic! That’s not even including everything happening with ICE etc, its funding and complicity of the genocide in Palestine, bombing Iran etc like…
hey not to advertise these twats (so don't look them up) but some absolute fucks in paris allegedly created a service where you can "rent air conditioning" (taking advantage of a climate apocalypse) and they make you pay 700€ a month for AC that costs 200€ for life.
image descriptions and translations:
[social media screenshot from Le Parisien, a french journal "renting instead of buying AC, the good deal proposed by [Don't-Look-Them-Up] mid-heatwave."]
[journal article from Le Parisien that reads: "renting instead of buying AC, the good deal proposed by [Don't-Look-Them-Up] mid-heatwave.
Since the start of the summer, acquiring an AC has been challenging. To answer to buyers who are faced with empty storefronts, [Don't-Look-Them-Up] has found a trick: the punctual rental of cooling units."]
ahem. and the review
[One-Star Review: Crooks that profit off of people's distress. He made me an offer for a 9000 BTu AC unit (valued at 280€) for 750€ per month. To avoid.]
they admitted in a video that they bought all the AC units DURING A BIG HEATWAVE all over Paris to empty all stocks, so that people would rely on them to get AC.
there were 3000 deaths due to the heatwave.
