Blessed by the first angels themselves, gifting them of bird like features. The community used to worship their tree, old, enormous and the tallest one there was, the very same place where the angels had descended. Sacred.
Taking the role of leader once his father perished. Jeremiah educated his people, took care of them and gave them free will to leave whenever they wanted to, because he knew that once they saw the true evil of the world, they would come back. And all of them did.
Centuries passed by with ease, generations by generations, until one day he showed up. Jeremiah trapped the Demon in a dead site of the forest, far away from his people. Cursing it to stay there until the owl took his last breath. . . But somehow, Jeremiah kept coming back to it.
Until the inevitable happened. Jeremiah came back, far away. He tried to fly, to run towards his village, his people, but it was already too late. Being met with burning flames that had eaten away all there ever was.
It got them.
With nothing to protect, no one to save, Jeremiah walked away. Feeling broken and not deserving of eternal rest. He walked. . . Roamed. . . For years. Alone.
But one day, a mysterious figure approached him, uttering some words he didn't even listen to. Suddenly he was no longer in his world, instead, he was in a. . . Mansion?

He isn't.
Esmeralda's job while in Heaven was to purge Demons, make sure they didn't get their hands on mankind by all means necessary, that made him of course extremely intolerant to them.
I know Esmeralda seems like a gentle soul and all that, cause he is (or was) with all the humans and other angels, because the mission then was simpler in the first generation, "everyone was created by the divine, ergo, everyone is good, beautiful and deserves to be happy and safe" with the exception of demons.
Esmeralda has killed countless Demons, even if he never tortured any of them or went sadistic or something of the matter, that doesn't mean he liked them.
But still. In his last moments something changed as all of you saw, and with that his vision about demons may have changed as well. . . But you'll have to wait and see :3

Este es más divertido!!! (horrible para el). Ya había dicho que evita a casi todos los miembros, pero especialmente a los miembros sobrenaturales/no humanos/deidades (así que básicamente, el 95 % de ellos lol). Esto sucedió en sus muchos intentos de buscar una salida en la mansion y fue un milagro que no se desmayara. Lo más probable es que fuera porque Aurora solo tiene sus alas en la cara y tiene rasgos mucho mas humanos, pero no tendría la misma suerte con otros miembros. (・Д・)

He’s seen Gaia a couple times around the mansion with other members, but he practically avoids all of them so it’s not a surprise they haven’t talked (he tolerates other visitors, though). He’s under the impression Gaia just has an accessory on her head because of his bad vision. Don’t actually tell him she’s a real cat. He might freak out. (@_@)

This one’s a bit more fun! (horrible for him). I already said he avoids almost every member, but specially supernatural/non-human/deity members (so basically, 95% of them lmao). This happened in one of his many attempts to look for an exit in the mansion, and it was a miracle he didn’t faint. It was most likely because Aurora just has her wings on her face and has human features, but he wouldn’t have a fun time with other members. (・Д・)

Matteo suffers from recurring syncope. This means he’s highly prone to fainting. This was an acquired condition, not chronic. ⁶
There's always been a constant itch on both his nape and Adam's apple that increases in intensity. Sometimes it reaches his upper back, in which he also has occasional pains. ⁷
He always has his journal with him at all times. Even though the pages have run out, he keeps sewing more at the end to continue writing in it when he has parchment available. The journal’s buckle doesn’t fully click in place due to the amount of pages.
Matteo usually writes in either regular Latin or Tuscan Dialect. His handwriting is usually neat, but some pages are completely undecipherable even if the subject reading knows how to read both of the aforementioned languages. ⁸
He has recurrent visions and hallucinations that torment him occasionally; both in his waking and sleep hours. ⁹
Aside from the journal, he constantly has a 150 prayer rosary wrapped around his right wrist, which he sometimes fidgets with to ground himself to reality.
His physical endurance is really low. Because his (past) profession was of a poet, he always spent days and even weeks sitting in a chair. Therefore, his running and physical excercise ability is barely existent.
Aside from the syncope and visions, Matteo suffers from a mild form of Formal Thought Disorder (posFTD). ¹⁰
The laurel crown he usually wears was a gift from someone and he's always careful with it, ensuring it doesn't break. He refuses to speak about said person.

¹ Etymology: The first name is the romanized version of ‘Matthew’, which was one of the Twelve apostles. His version of the gospel is highly precise and accurate, which also reflects in Matteo due to the fact that he’s a rampant perfectionist in documentation. His last name is a deconstructed version of: Carioti → Cariot → Kerioth
² This is a callout to Matthew 7:7, which emphasizes the consistency of prayer. He did all of this, yet he was never heard. He doesn’t harbor any type of resentment or anger towards this absence of an answer, just a deep feeling of despair. The ‘forsaken’ feeling he expresses is also a nudge to Psalms 22:1.
³ ‘The Hermit’ comes from the Tarot Card, just like Crouzier was assigned ‘The Fool’. On the other hand, ‘The Poet’ is both given by his job and for the character archetype.
⁴ Matteo needs to use glasses due to his nearsightedness. He refuses to use them because he thinks he’ll look older if he does. He also argues it is not severe enough to warrant glasses.
⁵ This date is 3 days after September 14th, which is Dante Alighieri’s death date.
⁶ He is most likely to faint at supernatural sightings or members of the mansion. This also includes his own visions and hallucinations. It takes him about two to three minutes to wake up, and he remembers very little or nothing after doing so. Because of the constant fainting, his body also has constant bruises and cuts.
⁷ Both the itch and back pains allude to Judas Iscariot. In Dante's Inferno, he is punished by constantly being chewed on his upper body and back. The discomfort around his neck is also in reference to one of his two supposed manners of death.
⁸ The use of the Tuscan Dialect, which is a variation of Latin, is another reference to the Divine Comedy since this was the language that it was written in originally. The occasional undecipherable pages hint at the Voynich Manuscript.
⁹ Most of these include religious imagery, which is why he has an aversion to any supernatural/spiritual beings. He is able to remember some dreams, the most prominent one being where he feels himself throwing up Florins, the currency used in 14th century Florence in Italy. He has no clue what this dream means, but he wakes up extremely shaken.
¹⁰ His regular speech is most times comprehensible and he is capable of maintaining a conversation, but sometimes he goes on a tangent and shifts to a very incoherent and disorganized speech with no linked ideas.

Author’s Note
SIR ANOTHER OC HAS STRUCK THE MANSION!!! I started making this guy exactly on May 27th just after buying a copy of Dante’s Divine Comedy and inspiration struck (if you couldn’t already tell). He initially started as the idea of fusing two different archetypes/characters that contradict each other, but he eventually started to get a more fleshed out vision and design. I played around with some brushes and experimented with the background, and I ended up quite satisfied with it! He does have a full story that explains where he was before the mansion and how he got to it. And him and Crouzier do know each other, but that’s for another time…
Anyway!!! THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!! This is a really welcoming community and it’s been fun even if I don’t interact a lot. It’s nice to know that a couple of people are interested in what I do! There’ll be a little something written with him too, just for you to get to know him a bit more and his manner of acting. But the next post regarding MM is going to be a more detailed explanation of both his relationship chart and Crouzier's. I can't promise you anything, though. This burnt me out a lot and I'm nearing my finals. Maybe in a few weeks or a month? Who knows!!!
Ps. I hate this guy. With like, a passion. I hope Casimir or Trickster or Rosemary or whoever is in charge tortures him in the worst way possible. Like he could die and I wouldn't care. Actually? You guys can have him. But bonus points if you torment him. Can you tell I don't like him??

Funny enough, he came from Roblox then I made him into an actual character (just like Esmeralda cause these 2 were REALLY connected(not anymore(at least not in MM)))

YESS, I'll give u a lil context for angels and how they work :³

Origins and purpose (for Cassi and Esme mostly)
Angels are beings created by the Divine with the mission to protect the human race, they were assigned different roles for each to take care of the necessities the humans had.
The most important was Cassiel, since he was in charge of maintaining the peace in the human race, avoiding conflicts and trying to resolve any type of fight with a dialogue. He use to watch them everyday every time he was able to, being curious about them and loving how they interacted with their surroundings. Every time someone had a problem with another one, Cassiel went with them personally and tried to solve it himself.
Another thing Cassiel did was going to villages and teaching them how to act properly (like little children 🥹)
As for Esmeralda, he used to protect humans, fighting against demons that tried to lure humanity to sin or kill them for their own good. Unlike Cassiel, Esmeralda use to spend more time hanging out with humans, having the intention to get a better relationship with them since they needed to trust him as their "guardian"
Therefore, he was a little bit more social than Cassiel, since he used to spend his time in heaven.
Generations
In total, there have been three generations of angels in their universe, this because humans killed them or they just abandoned their purposes (rare cases)
Cassiel: after feeling a deep reject towards human race, he neglected his own duty. This caused the fall of the angels, making demons able to infiltrate in heaven and humans to kill them. His generation had more humanoid features, but still being abstracts in their own ways.
Callum: being the second angel to take the role of Bringer of Peace, he tried to hang out with humans as much as he was able to. Unfortunately, this came horribly wrong, most of his generation were killed by humans since they looked like animals (mostly doves, lambs or goats), making them appear weaker.
Azrael: the last trace of their Divine was in this generation. Azrael was lure by a demon to embrace the apathy towards the human race, causing all of the other angels to abandon them too one by one. This generation was more human like in appearance.
How humans see angels nowadays
The opinions of the humanity towards the angels is very polarised. While some of them believe that angels tried their best, most of them have mixed feelings after the third generation arrived.
Cults like Cherith dad's picture angels like their saviours, blaming humans for the downfall of them and punishing the members in shame of humanity.
I could do another post explaining how her cult was too :p!
