Jules didn’t take her eyes off her sister as she drank her favorite alcoholic concoction. She let out a loud laugh at the face and reaction of the older sister, nodding as she already began to prepare the full mixed drink version of her earlier, fruity, shot. “It’s definitely an acquired taste, I think. I didn’t like it at first but that’s all they drank in the North East of America so honestly I just learned to like it. And trust me, it was worth it. It’s the drink that gets me the most drunk in the least amount of time.” She served her sister a taller glass, tinted red from the fruit juice. “But here you go, a delicious drink for my adventurous sister.” Jules shrugged at her sister’s question, serving the one customer who showed up while she spoke before redirecting her attention back to Danny. “I’ve seen a lot more than I’ve heard here. I think the bartenders at chill bars and pubs hear a lot more stories. I see a lot of fights, a lot of tears, a lot of break ups, but honestly it’s a bit too busy here to talk much to the customers. Even on the slowest nights.” She eyed her sister for a moment, “Why? You need some life advice, Danny?”
Hearing her sister talk about the States reminded her of the time when she was away. Juliette had always been the type of person that couldn’t be tied down and with that, she had seen the world. Had the bravery to go out and just live and see where she stood without her family. As an older sister, it was honestly something that Danielle was both proud and almost envious of her. “Really? Damn those Americans. Saving money, that’s my girl. Seriously, one day, we’ve all got to go travel with each other. Backup across Europe or something. But wait, where was your favorite place, out there?” She asked before tilting her head as thanks as she looked giddily at her drink, “You know, it makes sense. Having all the bouncers and all, maybe people wouldn’t fight if they just talked about their feelings,” And she considered it, the idea of sitting there and telling her sister all her little worries and maybe even the bigger ones but the older blonde reasoned it wasn’t much a conversation for the club. Instead, she smiles, “Nah, nothing’s really going on with me, Jules. All work, no play. No hotties in my life. Boring, really. Uh, I visited Dad the other day, he says he wants you to call more,” She teased before running a hand through her blonde waves, “But hey, real talk. What do you think about me going brunette? Yay or nay? Do you think everyone would still think we’re sisters? Or is blonde like our trademark because I can totally see Del as a good red head.”
Delphine found herself feeling almost giddy; it was the combination of being tired from her flight and being in the presence of her sister and closest friend. They were so close in fact that she had predicted her sister’s joke, and when it came she clicked her tongue against the roof of her mouth in mock exasperation. “You do remember that I was at a conference with pharmacologists and scientists alike,” she reminded her sister, making a face as if she wasn’t one herself. “What’s that old phrase about dating a scientist? ‘The odds are good, but the goods are odd?’” Delphine laughed at her own joke before shaking her head in response to her sister’s words. “He always has been a stubborn creature. Maybe I can figure out a spell to make him warm up to dogs some…Not to rub it in but I will definitely be forcing him to sit with me tonight.”
Del shrugged, as if it were no big deal. “I know how much you value your pen collection from three star hotels around the world. Did he now? Poor dad, good help is so hard to find these days. Maybe you should volunteer to help out every now and then, I’m sure that regular you spilled soup on that one time has definitely forgotten about it by now,” she teased in return, all the while making a mental note to call their father later and say hello. “I’ll cook something up, don’t worry,” she reassured her sister, stepping through the door into the greenhouse. Once inside, Del listened did a slow 360 spin, taking in the sight while Danny explained. “Its definitely a nicer shape, it reminds me of geodes,” Del hummed appreciatively. “I think it’ll look really gorgeous once you get things blooming. This might have been one of your best ideas yet.” Already she could imagine staking out a corner of the greenhouse in order to grow some of her own potions ingredients; it would be much more efficient than having to go out and buy them every time. “The bird house queen?” she repeated, looking at her sister with incredulous amusement. “Looks like someone’s been bitten by the DIY bug. The next time I go away I’ll just be able to keep up with your life by checking pinterest.”
She was lucky. From the moment Danielle was born, she already had a best friend waiting for her. And so on, she had waited as an eager four year old for the arrival of the girl who inherited baby sister status. And just like that, the middle blonde had realized no matter how long the time passed between seeing them, she’d always be waiting for Delphine and Juliette. To hear their stories, hold their secrets and smile at every joke, only if they were funny of course. Nudging the other blonde, she can’t help but to smile. “There’s got be some hottie scientist slash pharmacologist out there! I have hope, Del. Come on, even if they had bar hair if they have a good face, we can work with that! Just slap some Rogaine on there.” She was teasing, naturally and she continued. “Alright, fair is fair. The saying is, you’re not supposed date within your specialty. So you can find me a scientist and I’ll find you a hot cop.” Although, truly if she ever did find someone good enough for her sister, she probably would get to scheming to set them up. But then again, she knew with the break up between her and Jason that maybe it was too soon. “Take care of my baby boy, Del. That’s all I ask.”
As her sister spoke about pens, it was honestly her thing. She loved those pens and how well they wrote. But more than that, it was great knowing her older sister always remembered. “You know me so well. I honestly will probably take a couple of shifts until he hires good help. Like I’m on call though but I’ve been called in at nights the last few times which if you hear someone getting up at four AM, that’s me.” Hearing the old memory, her hands fly to her own face covering it as she laughed, “I almost forgot about that. Almost! Seriously that was so bad and I felt so bad. And Dad had to offer him free soup for like a month. I’m a clutz, I think I get it from grandma, really.” She lied, she probably would never forget that faithful day. As Delphine offered to cook, Danny nodded appreciatively though noted that she would help. At the little tour of the geodome, there’s a glow from the blonde, one before of the compliment her sister offered and two, it was something she was proud of. “I’m really excited to get to planting. Speaking of which, you have any request? I’ll stop by Elderwood’s to pick up some seeds,” Hearing ‘The Bird House Queen’ fall from her sister’s lips, Danny had to admit, it wasn’t the most appealing name, “I’ll work on the name. And yes, pinterest will by new home. This is true, honestly instead of shoes this year for Christmas, you’re all getting bird houses,” She said with a serious face as leaned to tap the panel, “As if I could quit my job though. Fighting crime in a lab, it’s pretty cool. I guess I’ll just have to wait till retirement.”
He smiled at her, Alec loved the fact that Danny had always come over to pick out some flowers. It was always something different and he loved the change, “Yes! How is she doing?” he asked the other as he looked for the seeds where the orchids are. He ran his fingers through a couple packages and then finally found the one she wanted. He pulled it out and handed it to her as they walked toward the nearby table he used to pot new seeds. “I know, it’s been awhile hasn’t it.” he said with a small smile. “I hope you’re talking about your life.” he said laughing a bit, “Nothing really, just been hanging out with Barra..” he said shyly.
As the blonde held the packets in her hands, she found herself compulsively putting them in the order she envisioned them in her garden. Hearing his question she smiled, “Del’s good, she just got back from a conference in the States. She brought me some really good convention pens, bless her heart. Hey, do want one? I dunno, I just like how they write and I have some in my purse.” Danny offered before smiling, “Yours! Mine is just work and waiting for the warm weather,” Hearing the other warlock’s name, she brightened hearing his shyness, “Oh, I see! Barra, you know, he’s a really good musician even sold me his piano. And even a more nicer guy, don’t you think Al?”
Mary smiled at that. “You know, I don’t think you’d want to sit in the gallery for this creep. Saw him in interrogation and even separated by a window, I felt like I needed to take a shower when I left the station.”
The lightened mood in the room began to disappear, a thick and heavy weight replacing it as Mary listened carefully to Danny’s next words. The other woman’s tone turned harsher, the hard sounds not something that Mary was used to hearing–not from Danny. She had recently spoken with Eldertree down at the station about Reeves; so it seemed that not only did the man cause trouble for the police publicly, but he hurt one of their own personally as well. Mary felt the anger well up inside her, the desire to lock him away even stronger than before. Her mouth twisted in disgust; prison was almost too good for him. Her eyes turned to the computers, nodding carefully. “Of course, I believe you.” Mary swallowed the weight that had formed in her throat, suddenly feeling the need to embrace Danny. And so she did. When she let her go, Mary said, “Did you ever report what he did to you to the police? Tell anyone about it–other than me?” Mary looked over at the computers again, sending up a silent prayer of thanks to whatever deity would listen for the fact that everything within the Astoria Police Department was saved and encrypted now. “Have you touched the data samples since the incident? Backed them up, maybe?”
Mary leaned back, a look of determination set in her eyes, her green pupils dark with anger. Her eyes didn’t blink once as she fixed them on Danny’s. “I promise you that I will do everything in my power to put him away. He won’t get away with what he’s done to you, I promise you that, Danny.” Mary knew much too well what it was like to feel like someone else had power over her, was continuing to violate her even if the incident had passed a long time ago. It was something no woman should have to go through, and the fact that it had happened to Danny made Mary’s blood boil–enough to the point where she wanted to drive down to where Reeves was in police custody and hang him from the light in his cell with her bare hands. “I promise.”
While there were slight variables, someone had come the conclusion that the adult human body consisted of two hundred and six bones. Amazingly, these almost ivory lengths were once soft marrow that transformed themselves until they became stronger and lighter than steel. Lattice-like structures of calcium and phosphorus would be rumored to be replaced every seven years, or ten, depending on which story one would hear. It was romantic idealism, truly. But Danny had reasoned that should that tale be true, there had to be a part of the skeleton that remembered. A broken bone that would carry the faint memory of the agony when it shattered. That had all been put into perspective when her two hundred and six went through the ultimate test when they all broke and healed in order to fit inside the body of a wolf. And it was then she found there was nothing picturesque about it. For three days, she felt it all. And it wasn’t beautiful, not like the rise of a phoenix from its ashes – that, that was fucking agony.
And he meant that. Eric Reeves had left her alive because she literally spat in his face and refused to give him what he wanted. Death would’ve been a mercy and hell, with him out there, maybe he’d come back to finish what he started. But not before she knew what it felt like to have her insides crawl and for her sense of security to be robbed. And so when Mary embraces her, her eyes close. Because she needed that more than she realized. Maintaining contact, it was all about speaking without words and having the other woman hold her, it screamed volumes. “I did, I had someone find me and take my statement and got me to the hospital. Wrote it up as an assault and battery charge. But considering he was accused of being the murderer of that past case, I didn’t want to make a big deal of an A&B,” There was that, at least she had her life where the others couldn’t say the same. The blonde then nods, “I check them, on every 17th since then. They’re still there as far as I know. If you can get him on anything, get him on first degree murder because those data samples should be his death sentence,” It’s darkly she says that but its firm, nonetheless. Hesitantly, she asks, “Mare? Do you know where he is?” And hearing and seeing the assistant defense attorney promise her, she sees the rawness of conviction set. And Danny finds herself wanting to say: thank you, thank you, thank you. Over and over again. Because more than anything, she trusted her. She believed in Mary Chung. So instead of repetitive gratitude, she settles for one while her eyes say more, “If it is anyone who can put that man where he belongs, it’s you, Mare. Thank you, truly. If you need anything, please let me know.”

“Oh, well—- I don’t know. I guess there’s really no one left to say ’good job’ or ’you’re doing great’—- I don’t know,” She looked down at her hands, feet taking the familiar path as it’d done many times before that. “I guess my confidence was shaken for a long time. Haven’t really gotten it back. Or.. I’m not supposed to get it back, I haven’t worked it out yet.” She responded shyly. Head popped up, lips parting. “Um, I do some part-time shifts at Blackout? I don’t really leave uh— behind the bar, I did once and people got too handsy and I wasn’t good with it, so— I just serve drinks behind the bar.”
Sofia was interesting, in Danny’s opinion. As she went on, the blonde realized there was a story there. However, as far as strangers go, she knew not to pry despite her curiosity. However she does ask, “Did it happen a long time ago?” Referring to having a shaken confidence as Danny followed the other blonde. “Oh! Hey, you might know my sister, she works there too. Juliette? And oh my god, yeah no that’s totally understandable. I’m sure people there can get rowdy. I saw it happen with Jules and I can barely stand it, I know she handle her own but I still worry. Have you been doing the bar tending thing long?”
He hurt you. She nearly flinches, like as if a palm has been raised and she were an abused child whose first reaction to do so was just that. Her eyes flickered a flame that raged a sense of hatred so pure and unfiltered that the rawness of it was unreal. “Every single fucking time.” Hans was a man who couldn’t be built for remorse on what he did to Serena, he often blamed her for doing what he did. She remembers times when she fought back from his mental, emotional, and sometimes verbal and physical abuse, especially one in which her fist met with his face and he then threatened to kill her if she’d done it again, or the time that she fed from him and he promised to bruise her for doing something that made him sick to his stomach. How she could of loved a man such as him was beyond her.
He hurt Serena, it’s evident in the woman’s mannerisms and it screams in the way she enunciates those four words that Danny swallowed hard it. Every. Indicating more than once. That man hurt her. But if it was one thing the blonde should’ve learned when Hans got back up after the impact with her car, he was hardly a man. She wears a serious expression although there’s softness in her gaze. There’s a range of questions she wants to ask but she refrains realizing that her curiosity isn’t worth prying. However, she does say, “--Have you talked about it? Because we can, if you need that. If not then I want to stay. What I’m saying is, I will be here for you,” She tried not to ramble, as she so found herself inclined to do, trying to find better words to express. Danny came to the conclusion that she could be the shoulder to lean on, the punching bag, the one to just hold her and sit in comfortable silence -- anything for the woman in front of her if asked of her. “I will be whoever you need me to be, Ser.”
Jules couldn’t stop the loud laugh that escaped her at the thought of her older sisters setting some drunk loser on fire. “With all the alcohol in his system, could you imagine the explosion? God, I’d pay to see that. But only if it was happening to like, some serial rapist or something. Someone who really deserves it.” She nodded sagely, keeping her smile minimal at the correction. “Right, right of course. No actually setting anyone on fire.” Her eyes lit up at the freedom Danny was giving her because Jules actually loved mixing drinks and wanted to give her sister something she’d like. “Ooh, I love a challenge. Alright try….” She trailed off as she mixed up a fruity shot for her sister. “This. The mixed drink version will taste the same but with less alcohol by volume, of course. And here…” She trailed off once again as she put together her favorite drink – gin based, of course – and set a small tumbler in front of her sister. “This is my favorite. A lot of people don’t love gin like I do, so I won’t be offended if you don’t like it. I’ll just know to strengthen up your fruity drinks if that’s the way you decide to go for the rest of the night.”
“Hell hath no fury like the Fontaine girls,” Nodding in agreement, she smiled seeing her sister’s eyes light up as she worked her magic. A nightclub wasn’t much her scene but it seemed to fit Julie more who always larger than life. It was with ease when she drank the fruity shot, after all that was more her style. However as she downed Juliette’s pick of gin, she coughs at the taste before looking back at her sister, “Oh wow, okay -- I see you, Jules. That was really ... different. Like I’m not saying it’s bad but I feel like it’s an acquired taste. But for now, I think I’ll stick to the mixed drinks because I like them. Alot. Keep ‘em coming.” She requested before readjusting in her seat, “So is it really true that bartenders are great therapist? Like I feel like here everyone’s out to dance but I’m curious about if you get told life stories often.”
The taxi from the airport had only dropped her off moments ago and yet already Delphine had been struck by how nice it was to be home. Stepping through the front door, she instantly breathed a sigh of relief. Traveling for work always sounded nicer than it actually was. Sure, seeing different places would be great, if it weren’t for the fact that at the end of the work day, the only thing she saw was her hotel room. As always, her kitchen was a welcome sight, and she stepped through to it, dropping her bag at her feet and resting her elbows on the island. The house was quiet, which likely meant her sisters were working; disappointing because after a week away she was eager for company. She supposed she should figure out what to make for din– Her train of thought was completely derailed when her eyes caught the shape of a structure in the backyard. Seeing it, she did a double take. That certainly hadn’t been there when she’d left. With its paneled glass, it looked to be a greenhouse, and Del could guess which of her sisters ideas that had been. She crossed the kitchen towards the backdoor, interested in seeing more. Stepping outside, she stared at the massive structure that took up part of the backyard. Before she could get too close to it, however, her sister popped out of the entrance.
Del instantly grinned at the sight of her, and happily hugged her in return. “Oh it’s so good to see you,” she laughed, squeezing her sister tight. “San Diego was informative but let me tell you the conversation was severely lacking.” Letting go, Del shook her head laughing at the barrage of questions. “If you’d like any Embassy Suites pens, be my guest, I think there’s one in my duffel. Still looking for the miracle serum to get you freckles but a scientist from Ireland showed promise,” she teased, before following Danny’s gaze towards the greenhouse. “It looks like you’ve been busy, did dad help you lay the groundwork?” Curious to see the interior, Delphine stepped towards the structure, trusting her sister would follow. “A little tired, a little hungry, but I think I’m gonna have to agree with Julie on the pot roast,” she snickered. “But so long as it’s not take-out I can live with it. Now show me what you’ve built here!”
It had been said by their father at one point that his girls were all distinct in personality. And Danny could always see the comparison when he had said they were like the elements. With her ability to go with the flow and move past adversity best she could, the middle was like the water. Juliette with her fiery disposition was much like the flames of fire but with the oldest, she was the earth. Del had always been able to ground them all and bring them back to reality. And so seeing her back, despite the shortness of her trip, made her happy. As they embraced and pulled back, she couldn’t help but to smile hearing her sister. “No super attractive scientist to catch your fancy? Bummer. At least we have dearest Angelus to snuggle with and by we, I mean you and Julie. Seriously, I know he hates dogs but I was hoping he’d get over it by now,” She sighed referring to their household cat who ever since Danny’s change couldn’t stand being in the same room as her.
Hearing about the souvenir pens she grins, “You’re good to me, sis. Yeah, Dad came over this week to help out. He sends his best, by the way. Apparently his current waitresses don’t hold a candle up to you but he gets you’re on to bigger and better things being a scientist and all,” She teased because in reality their father was incredibly proud that he was able to instill hard work ethic in his girls. As Danny followed, “Okay, okay -- no pot roast. No take out, I just got groceries so we’ll figure something out. But first! It’s basically a geodome greenhouse, you know me I couldn’t just have the plain old standard model so, here we are. It’ll keep our plants cozy next winter and honestly I just really like seeing it from the kitchen,” Opening the door, there hadn’t been much work in the interior besides the outline, “But just imagine there to be a lot of colorful flowers in here. Honestly I think I’ve spent my vacation time very productively, just think next year I’ll start hand making bird houses for every single tree. I’ll be so good that I’ll just have to quit my job and become the bird house maker queen or something.”
She wanted a greenhouse. While the winter was coming to an end, the blonde figured she’d take advantage of vacation time and prepare for the next. Instead of going elsewhere for a trip, she spent her down time in their backyard. After all, she hated going any time without the simplicity of flowers looking back at her from the kitchen window. So while Delphine was away and Julie spending nights at work, Danny called up their father who was more than happy to spend quality time with his middle girl. And since Lucien Fontaine was a perfectionist, they had soon gotten to work on their build-it-at-home creation. It had taken a few days nonstop but finally the geodesic dome was coming together. Her father had reasoned the blonde could finish herself since he had some kitchen fiasco back at the bistro to deal with. Finally with the foundation of the greenhouse up, she took to planting. However it is the sound of the back door closing that catches her attention, she moves out wearily. But when she sees who it is, her face brightens immediately. “Del! Oh my god, you totally scared me there for a bit,” She quickly takes off her gardening gloves before hugging her older sister, “But I missed you, nonetheless. Did you get me anything cool? Any cool pens? Is there a new drug that’ll give me freckles?” She joked before looking over her shoulder at the greenhouse, “I was totally hoping to surprise you with a finished version with seeds planted and everything but I guess that’ll be something we can do together. If you’re not tired, are you tired? Are you hungry? I think Julie is tired of my pot roast by now but I can go make us something different.” Danny rambled completely happy for Delphine to be home.
Amber Heard at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards.
“Yes!” he said to Danny, “Please let me help you!” he exclaimed to her. Alec was the best when it came to all things leafy. He could grow anything with the right seeds, soil and water and of course a little help from his magic. “Ok, I definitely have have those..” he said as he looked in a cabinet. He grabbed a pack of seeds and tossed them her way, “Ah!, those are so beautiful and the perfect shade of blue.” he said to her as he looked around to think what else she can have, “Ok, so I have these,” he said as he crouched down to grab another pack of seeds, “These are called Delphimium, they’re the perfect shade of light blue.” he said excitedly.
“Of course, there’s no one better that I would trust with my garden,” Returning his enthusiasm with a nod as Danny caught the packages as he tossed them. Her blue eyes scanned the packages before nodding in agreement, “These are going to turn out so nice, I’m excited! And I love their name because it reminds me of my sister. Oh and I need some more orchids in the house,” She smiled, “But hey, Alec -- I feel like I haven’t caught up with you for awhile, anything new with you? At least one of us has to be living adventurously,”
“I know, I know. It’s the least enjoyable part of the job but honestly it doesn’t happen to that extent that often – or like, ever really. I swear. I’m safe here. I mean look at those bouncers!” Juliette pointed at a pair of giant and physically threatening men with a smile, “It’s part of their job to protect the staff. I’m in good hands.” She quickly checked the clock at Danny’s question and then started to laugh at her explanation. “I’ve got two hours left and, while those are two tough options to choose from, I think I’ll just keep serving you shots until I have to drive us both home at the same time so I can sleep in my bed tonight.” She rolled her eyes playfully at her sister, “And here I thought I was supposed to be the irresponsible younger sister here. What’s your drink of choice tonight, highly irresponsible older sister who is supposed to be my role model.”
At her sister’s reassurance, there’s a soft sigh from her lips before nodding, “Alright, I hear you. But hey, if I hear someone tries anything funny, Del and I will literally set them on fire,” Before catching the eye of the bouncer, making a two finger gesture to keep an eye over their direction, “--Not actually being that that’s illegal and if Del and I are in prison we can’t be here but I will write a strongly written letter or something,” She says dramatically before bursting into a fit of laughs, “Juliette, what happens in the club, stays in the club. Alright, give me something fruity, strong and then I’ll have something you would drink because I’m oh so curious if my little sister can drink me under the table.”

Sofia giggled, shaking her head no. “I wasn’t really good — well, I’m still not good, actually, at negotiating things. Mostly I just said I’d hand it in a day before and did. I don’t— I don’t really have the chops to—to stand up for myself like that.” She muttered, hands toyed with the hem of her shirt. “Yeah — I don’t— It’s about a half-hour walk from here, do you mind walking? I don’t—” Sofia blushed, scratching her temple. “I don’t have a working car so… But I can definitely show you the way.”
Having heard the other woman, the words almost rung in her ear. I don’t have the chops to stand up for myself like that.“Well, why not?” She asked curiously as her eyes trailed to where Sofia had to break the glass to get the ax. Giving her a smile, “I honestly don’t mind walking. Let’s go,” Danny said as the exited the building, “I feel like I’ve seen you before. Do you work somewhere other than Kingston’s?”
