@dante-the-gecko
The struggle is real.
Dante’s tank got converted to bioactive! It’s far from perfect of course, but when those plants start to grow in it’ll look 10x better!
Dante has moved over to twitter!! If you’d like to keep up with his antics, please follow him @ DanteTheCrestie ! ✨
Hang in there! :)
Your baby is so cute😭😭❤️❤️ any tips for someone planning to get a crested gecko?
Thank you!! And oh man, here we go....
-Do tons of research. And never stop looking things up! Lots of people have different opinions on certain things and sometimes better options are found.
-What do you know about reptiles? Are you committed to having a lizard that will live 15+ years?
-They are VERY jumpy creatures. They’re used to jumping around on trees and whatnot in the wild, so they’re very easily able to get away from you! If you buy a hatchling or a juvenile, taming them can sometimes be hard. And some geckos don’t like to be held at all. I’ve tried to “tame” Dante ever since I could and he never seemed to get used to it, so I decided he just didn’t like to be held and that was that!
-Your crested MUST have a proper diet! Using brands like Pangea and Repashy are your best bet as they’re generally agreed upon. If your gecko doesn’t get the proper nutrients they need, they’re susceptible to diseases, the big one being Metabolic Bone Disease. (Warning: If you want to look this up, some of the pictures are pretty grisly. But of course, that should convince you to keep their health in check so this doesn’t happen to your beloved gecko!)
-Depending on where you live, they don’t need a lot of heat. If you live in an area with cold winters, a light daytime heat lamp doesn’t hurt! They like a room-temperature range.
-Cresteds are ARBOREAL, meaning they prefer taller terrariums rather than the usual wider one.
-Do NOT cohab your crested with another gecko, even if they are the same species. Males will fight each other, and of course males and females will breed. Even breeders won’t generally house their breeding pair together for the safety of their geckos.
-If your gecko seems pale: don’t panic! Often times they’re just about to shed their skin. Cresteds require a humid environment to help with this, so an automatic mister or misting it manually is necessary.

why he do that with he tail
How do you keep your enclosure’s walls free of hard water deposits?
Can’t say I’ve ever had to deal with that! I use soft water and clean his tank every couple of weeks so nothing can build up.
If you’d like to know what cleaner I use, it’s this!
Healthy Habitat is a cleaner and deodorizer specifically formulated to effectively eliminate soiling and odors caused by non-living organic

Sitting in the food-bowl waiting for me to refill it. Silly goober, I can’t put food in it if your big butt’s there!
I got him a coconut home and he loves it! He was super weary of it at first and it took a few days to work up the courage to actually go inside, but he finally made it. :)
