High School AU: Sailor skipped a year or two, it’s unclear how he’s gotten here, but his focus has been on biology and just general work to help out his community. Despite being in no clubs or major sports, he often still manages to show up for and work for many major events. No one has evidence, but many are convinced he was the mascot a few times.

College AU: Sailor is working on a major in engineering, and a minor in marine biology. He has plans for the future! And no one has a clue where he got the money for all this. He is around 16-17 and it’s unclear how he’s managed to skip this far ahead.

Poppy saw many people when it came to selling. From the sweetest looking girls around who need to take the edge off, to the broadest men they’d ever seen who looked like they chewed rubber for fun. But this was a first. A sophomore at most, absolutely couldn’t be any higher on the chain, was leaning against a locker trying to spark up a conversation. No one ever knew how to prompt a purchase, they were always amateurs. Arms covered in stupid massive sleeves, a now-tank-top that looked like it once had sleeves, and shorts mid-winter. Sailor was that kid who had skipped a few years, got into the school year late, and still wasn’t failing as hard as one would imagine. Worst of all he was generally bright and loud, as well as clearly trying to get her attention.

“Uhhh… hi? Just curious, I heard a runor or two and heard you may be the person to talk to? I could be wrong!”

[Younger people were much harder to come by in terms of selling. It was mostly Poppy's age if not much, much, older. It was a surprise to see such a young face asking for her services. She ran a hair through her hair and almost ignored the kid entirely. He was awkward, almost too awkward. It made her suspicious of his true intentions... Yet kids were easier to rob out of money. It was easy to upcharge them, and they wouldn't have a single clue. So, hesitantly, Poppy decides to take Sailor up on the option.]

🐞 ヾ ͙ “ I might be, I might not be. What's the rumor? ” ˖ ੭

[She responds as casually as possible while remaining as vague as possible. If he was here on a different rumor, she didn't want to sell herself out by asking if he wants drugs, so she tried to tip-toe around the subject instead. Not to mention that schools weren't the best place for deals.]

The kid looks BEYOND nervous to be talking here, glancing around like one wrong move is the end for him. But he seems thrilled to have been acknowledged at all and seems to take this as confirmation that he was right.

“I… don’t think I should say the rumor aloud so publicly, but we could chat outside? I mean. I don’t have anything important this next block, wanna walk?”

The bizarre thing is that he didn’t look like some kid trying to get his hands on a good time or to break the rules, he looked eager to talk but not THAT kind of eager. He seemed happy to just have the conversation. And like he was set to explode with energy. Extroverts were a pain.

[She just shrugs and nods, nudging him to take the lead. Once he does, she walks behind him. She doesn't know this kid, but he doesn't look like the kind of person well-thought of, so she tries to look as distant from him as possible. She got enough shit for being around Vega even if she was mostly picking on him, she didn't want to be in deeper shit for being with an unlikable kid. She could hear the new rumors spiraling before they've even began. She clutches her backpack straps tighter and tighter.]

🐞 ヾ ͙ “ So, what's your next block anyway? ” ˖ ੭

[She speaks calmly, but her head is anything but calm. She was always so worried about her reputation. It did affect her business after all. She could see the excitement bursting out of the kid anyway, and she almost regrets asking. Exotroverts were her least favorite kind of people as an introvert herself. (Her favorite kind being lonely losers like Vega.)]

He almost stumbles when shoved, almost like his whole body is bracing at impact. There’s something slightly wrong and alert buzzing behind his eyes until he notices they were just getting him to move. He grins again, chattering and having no issue making it look like he’s just talking to himself. It earns him no more looks than his general existence did, right?

“Oh next? Math, nothing fancy. I’ll just do the work later- y’know I almost got a construction job once! After you know blueprints and measurements, the basic levels of math kind of fall into place. You? Or do you want me to just keep talking?”

He’s chatty, but he does seem to be keeping the attention drawn to himself, gesturing and not so much as looking back at Poppy. He’d make a wonderful Orpheus. His head was calmer than it should be. He lead easily, down an emptier hallway, towards the bleachers and fields. It was just cold enough for all gym classes to be indoors.

[Poppy faux-gags as soon as math is mentioned. She's not fond if the subject herself. She's curious about this construction job though. If he's that good, he must have a decent amount of money on him, and she could upcharge him to hell. There's a sinister look in her eyes as they keep walking. She's closer to him now, almost right beside him but trailing far enough back to not seem suspicious by other people.]

🐞 ヾ ͙ I have english. Hate the teacher though. ˖ ੭

[That teacher was a bitch. Not to everyone, just specifically to Poppy. She had a feeling of why, but nothing set in stone yet. It was just a hunch for now. The two finally escaped into the cold outdoors. Poppy leans against one of the walls nearby, just out of detection from a camera nearby. That and the fact she's rather tired from walking such a short distance. She waits for the boy in front of her to speak first, beckoning him on.]

Sailor’s laugh is almost too quick, like he’s starting to actually get nervous again, remembering where they are and all. He’s balling his sleeves in a fist, only to release it and start all over again.

“Yeah… I get that feeling. You skip a grade too many and people think you’re a know-it-all or something stupid. Teachers included.”

He’s followed, honestly trailed along like a proper professional, despite how he was louder than Poppy’s usual customers. He rocks on his heels, scanning surroundings and prodding something in his pocket.

“So… youuuuu… sell? Do you have a good supplier?”

[Poppy tilted her head. The kid really was here for the good shit. She expected it, but it somehow still surprised her. She shrugged and straightened up after.]

[She doesn't answer the question about her supplier. She is her own supplier. She grows and makes everything herself due to her insane amount of supplies for it.]

Sailor couldn’t help it, he snorted and smiled a bit. His nerves eased like all the tension had come from keeping in a massive grin, and not the current drug deal. He balled up his sleeves some more, but was relaxing into his own shape. Short still, his grandpa would joke that he hadn’t hit the family growth spurt. Lanky, enough to reach rigging and beneath furniture where things could be stashed.

“Pot yeah? But I’m betting your access is limited right? I… kinda want to offer a deal?”

Sailor’s hand is unsteady when he takes it out of his pocket, a pack of cigarettes, uncreased and simple. Marlboro reds, which he simply passed over.

“Might help you get a new crowd? I don’t have many so I’d recommend keeping it to only a few people, but I’ve got that, I could get liquor pretty easy, maybe a few cigars? But those I can only get one at a time.”

[Poppy's eyes widen at the sight of the Marlboro Reds and only seem to get bigger as he continues to talk. Oh, this was the good shit. She could make some good fucking money off of this kid, and all she had to do was supply him. A mischevious gleam flashed in her eyes as she grinned. She wasn't stupid however. No matter how big her greed was, she pushed the cigarettes back to him.]

🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Hold on, what do you get out of this? Other than Pot, I mean. ” ˖ ੭

[She's skeptical. It's evident in her tone, no wonder she was somewhat, kinda, not really friends with Vega. She probably fueled his paranoia. Though her skepticism could only reign so much, she kept eyeing the pack of cigarettes. They're in pristine condition and only a limited supply of them. God, supply and demand was a beautiful thing when it worked in her favor.]

Sailor’s grin was actually rather bright, not afraid and not hesitant at all, as he took the cigarettes back but just stashed them in his pocket again. But he did laugh a bit at the gleam, he wasn’t dumb, he could recognize the intrigue.

“Oh! Oh, no I don’t want a trade. I don’t smoke much, not really interested. I wanted to go 60/40, on pricing. You can upsell a bit, these aren’t something most people can grow or produce, let alone alcohol. This one was going to be just an incentive, but if you’re not interested that’s okay.”

Sailor offered a small shrug, but there was a mischief in his eyes. This wasn’t his first deal, or his first conversation like this, but Poppy knew for a fact that no one around the school was selling cigarettes or alcohol consistently.

[Poppy notices the change in demeanor. He's much less skittish now, probably because he knows she can't get him in trouble without getting herself in trouble. Not like she would anyway, she hated the authority here, and it'd be too much of a hassle, and the police and blah, blah blah.]

[She stares down at where the cigarettes were. She didn't wanna meet his gaze, she never liked looking anyone in the eye. It was uncomfortable to say the least. She looked up at the camera above them briefly. They were far enough away where it couldn't hear them but still underneath it enough where it couldn't see either. She didn't like splitting money, it was a whole lot of math she wasn't really good at. She leaned against the wall behind her as she thought. She'd be making potentially a decent bit more money, but how would she know that the kid wouldn't turn her in unexpectedly? She'd literally just met him, and she had no idea he was even here before, but if he went off to sell his own business she'd be in competitive danger.]

[She eventually just shrugged and stuck out her hand for him to shake.]

[She was always reckless with these sorts of things. Anything to fuel her greed was something good in her book even with the immense risks that came with it.]

And it was back in seconds. The grin, the casual chatty mood he brought about with a bat of an eye, as he excitedly shook her hand back. His sleeves were massive and swallowed her hand.

“Oh!!! Oh I was worried you were going to say no, this is so cool! This’ll be fun I know it! Oh and you can keep these I don’t actually want them on me when I go to work.”

“I can give you a rundown of inventory in a couple days. So you know what to start pushing and all!”

[He was just as chirpy and potentially as chatty as Elise, but he didn't seem as rude. It was strangely nice. She nodded absentmindedly as he talked. Barely retaining anything he said until he said something about inventory. She nodded a bit more vigorously that time.]

[As much as she should probably sell the pack in her pocket, she's definitely going to smoke it later. She might share with Elise if he's nice enough to her or scare the shit out of Vega by hiding them in her locker... Anyway.]

[She honestly blurted out the question before she could even register it. It was probably intrusive, but she didn't backpeddle on her words. She stared at him intensely, seeking an answer.]

A small part of him was quietly wondering how well pre-opened bottles would sell, or slightly dented cans. Let alone how he could get everything around with his bike… well. THE bike. It was technically not his but the bike lock popped off pretty easily. But to Poppy he still offered that grin, like his answer was as normal as could be.

[Out of the millions of things she carried on her, she doesn't have a lighter. She sticks the cigarettes in her mouth and searches through her pockets. A box cutter, some pencils, pens, even some coke in there (why is that in there?), but not a single damn lighter. She lets out an irritated groan.]

”Anything can be believable if you choose to believe. Plus people have all sorts of reasons, and yeah here wait.”

“I was gonna ask if you’ve smoked before, but that seems silly now. Can I get just a puff from you? You can totally say no, those were a gift.”

[Poppy stared at the dingy old lighter for a moment. She gently took it out of the kid's hands like she would break it if not careful. She lit her own cigarette. She pocketed the lighter after to free her hands and gave him a cigarette. She probably wouldn't smoke them all and damn well knew Elise wouldn't. She also gave him the lighter back afterwards.]

[She inhaled the smoke deeply but exhaled quickly after. She coughed after, not a bad cough but a noticeable one. God, she hated that part. By no means was she an experienced smoker, never really wanted to be. It was just a one-way ticket to lung cancer, but she really wished she wouldn't cough after taking a drag of it. It was weirdly embarassing.]

She ran a hair through her hair and almost ignored the kid entirely. He was awkward, almost too awkward. It made her suspicious of his true intentions... Yet kids were easier to rob out of money. It was easy to upcharge them, and they wouldn't have a single clue. So, hesitantly, Poppy decides to take Sailor up on the option.]

The kid looks BEYOND nervous to be talking here, glancing around like one wrong move is the end for him. But he seems thrilled to have been acknowledged at all and seems to take this as confirmation that he was right.

He almost stumbles when shoved, almost like his whole body is bracing at impact. There’s something slightly wrong and alert buzzing behind his eyes until he notices they were just getting him to move. “Oh next? Math, nothing fancy. I’ll just do the work later- y’know I almost got a construction job once! After you know blueprints and measurements, the basic levels of math kind of fall into place. You? Or do you want me to just keep talking?”

He’s chatty, but he does seem to be keeping the attention drawn to himself, gesturing and not so much as looking back at Poppy. He’d make a wonderful Orpheus. His head was calmer than it should be. He lead easily, down an emptier hallway, towards the bleachers and fields. It was just cold enough for all gym classes to be indoors.

Sailor’s laugh is almost too quick, like he’s starting to actually get nervous again, remembering where they are and all. He’s balling his sleeves in a fist, only to release it and start all over again.

“Yeah… I get that feeling. You skip a grade too many and people think you’re a know-it-all or something stupid. Teachers included.”

He’s followed, honestly trailed along like a proper professional, despite how he was louder than Poppy’s usual customers. He rocks on his heels, scanning surroundings and prodding something in his pocket.

“So… youuuuu… sell? Do you have a good supplier?”

[Poppy tilted her head. The kid really was here for the good shit. She expected it, but it somehow still surprised her. She shrugged and straightened up after.]

Sailor couldn’t help it, he snorted and smiled a bit. His nerves eased like all the tension had come from keeping in a massive grin, and not the current drug deal. He balled up his sleeves some more, but was relaxing into his own shape. Short still, his grandpa would joke that he hadn’t hit the family growth spurt. Lanky, enough to reach rigging and beneath furniture where things could be stashed.

“Pot yeah? But I’m betting your access is limited right? I… kinda want to offer a deal?”

Sailor’s hand is unsteady when he takes it out of his pocket, a pack of cigarettes, uncreased and simple. Marlboro reds, which he simply passed over.

“Might help you get a new crowd? I don’t have many so I’d recommend keeping it to only a few people, but I’ve got that, I could get liquor pretty easy, maybe a few cigars? But those I can only get one at a time.”

Sailor balls up the fabric of his sleeves, leaning back with a bag full of work clothes and stuff he really ought to leave somewhere safer, when he has one.

Poppy saw many people when it came to selling. From the sweetest looking girls around who need to take the edge off, to the broadest men they’d ever seen who looked like they chewed rubber for fun. But this was a first. A sophomore at most, absolutely couldn’t be any higher on the chain, was leaning against a locker trying to spark up a conversation. No one ever knew how to prompt a purchase, they were always amateurs. Arms covered in stupid massive sleeves, a now-tank-top that looked like it once had sleeves, and shorts mid-winter. Sailor was that kid who had skipped a few years, got into the school year late, and still wasn’t failing as hard as one would imagine. Worst of all he was generally bright and loud, as well as clearly trying to get her attention.

[Younger people were much harder to come by in terms of selling. It was mostly Poppy's age if not much, much, older. It was a surprise to see such a young face asking for her services. She ran a hair through her hair and almost ignored the kid entirely. He was awkward, almost too awkward. It made her suspicious of his true intentions... Yet kids were easier to rob out of money. It was easy to upcharge them, and they wouldn't have a single clue. So, hesitantly, Poppy decides to take Sailor up on the option.]

[She responds as casually as possible while remaining as vague as possible. If he was here on a different rumor, she didn't want to sell herself out by asking if he wants drugs, so she tried to tip-toe around the subject instead. Not to mention that schools weren't the best place for deals.]

The kid looks BEYOND nervous to be talking here, glancing around like one wrong move is the end for him. But he seems thrilled to have been acknowledged at all and seems to take this as confirmation that he was right.

“I… don’t think I should say the rumor aloud so publicly, but we could chat outside? I mean. I don’t have anything important this next block, wanna walk?”

The bizarre thing is that he didn’t look like some kid trying to get his hands on a good time or to break the rules, he looked eager to talk but not THAT kind of eager. He seemed happy to just have the conversation. And like he was set to explode with energy. Extroverts were a pain.

[She just shrugs and nods, nudging him to take the lead. Once he does, she walks behind him. She doesn't know this kid, but he doesn't look like the kind of person well-thought of, so she tries to look as distant from him as possible. She got enough shit for being around Vega even if she was mostly picking on him, she didn't want to be in deeper shit for being with an unlikable kid. She could hear the new rumors spiraling before they've even began. She clutches her backpack straps tighter and tighter.]

He almost stumbles when shoved, almost like his whole body is bracing at impact. There’s something slightly wrong and alert buzzing behind his eyes until he notices they were just getting him to move. He grins again, chattering and having no issue making it look like he’s just talking to himself. It earns him no more looks than his general existence did, right?

“Oh next? Math, nothing fancy. I’ll just do the work later- y’know I almost got a construction job once! After you know blueprints and measurements, the basic levels of math kind of fall into place. You? Or do you want me to just keep talking?”

He’s chatty, but he does seem to be keeping the attention drawn to himself, gesturing and not so much as looking back at Poppy. He’d make a wonderful Orpheus. His head was calmer than it should be. He lead easily, down an emptier hallway, towards the bleachers and fields. It was just cold enough for all gym classes to be indoors.
