Oh, and she sensed that really quickly-
'Oh, ah, nevermind-'
She liked Poppy, she liked Poppy alot. Thats why she didn't want to push anything when she could so clearly sense that she didn't want her to join.
Besides, she could just play on her own. Well, with the many strangers online but it always seemed...fun when Poppy and Elise played together.
But that wasn't exactly her thing to decide whether she could join or not so she just brushed it off quickly.
'Oh, and uh, I heard the theatre club is cancelled for just this week and this week only due to Sir being off sick and everything..'
🐞 ヾ ͙ Cool. One less thing for me. ˖ ੭
[Poppy shrugged. The other thought that ran through her head was that she could tend to her plants more. She folded her hands over her chest after.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ Also, ask Elise about the playing with us thing. ˖ ੭

Vega has been acting strange all morning. Not that it was too different, but they were looking around frantically and fiddling with something in their pocket. They didn’t really know Poppy’s ‘conditions’, if it was a trade or a just buying it, but they shoved their pockets full of change anyway. They had been doing some pondering on the offer she had made some time ago, when they refused to take any drugs, but they felt like it was something that could help in the moment rather than harm
Seeing poppy across the hallway, Vega didn’t hesitate to slam their locker shut and follow after her to see if she had anything on her.
× 、: ✎・" poppy—"
[Poppy was putting away a textbook or few in her locker. She hadn't even noticed Vega was anywhere nearby. If she did, he probably would've been pestered to hell and back. She was walking away towards the exit actually. A pack of cigarettes sticking ever so slightly out of her pocket, she probably planned on smoking it rather than selling it. It seemed to be the same pack she had gotten from Sailor. That kid was strange-]
[She was snapped out of her sudden thoughts by a frantic voice behind her. She looked over her shoulder, slowing her pace to see... Vega? She'd expected one of her other customers, not a new one. She slowed her steps to a halt.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ What do you want? ” ˖ ੭
[Her voice sounds flat, but having an irritated edge to it.]
× 、: ✎・" I’d like to buy psychic energizers. "
…just say antidepressants, for one.
However their voice came off as more of a mutter rather than actual speaking. Maybe they noticed Poppy’s pissy mood, or maybe they just didn’t want the chance of being caught buying something like that. But either way they were just being weirder than they usually are, which says a lot.
× 、: ✎・" do you offer those? "
[Poppy tilts her head like a confused dog. Vega was coming to her for drugs? She knew she'd offered before, but she didn't expect him to take him up on that offer. She was also confused about the psychic energizers part. She's heard about fifty different variations of antidepressants but not a term from the 1950s. She just shook her head and straightened up.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ As in MOAIs or Ecstacy? ” ˖ ੭
[She asked with her voice more confused than the look on her face.]
× 、: ✎・" Maois. "
They answered the question bluntly, they assumed it could’ve been obvious—or at least they weren’t expecting her to have both kinds if any. Either way, a drug was a drug, right? It would help them no matter what they chose.
Vega slightly decided to actually look at her, just to see her staring at him with a confused expression and a head tilt. Was it really that shocking that the stereotypical nerd who gets bullied wanted something like that? …rhetorical question. It probably was but she had this coming considering she did mention it already.
[A sly grin forms itself on Poppy's face, slowly but surely. She did mention it, but she never thought the day would come. She shoved her hand in her pocket, digging for something. God only knows what it could be.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ If you're gunna buy, at least get something better than that. I've got somethin', better than an MOAI, and I'll even be nice and not upcharge you. How 'bout that? ” ˖ ੭
[If it wasn't for her sudden shift in tone it might seem like she's genuine. Poppy wasn't exactly keen on hiding her shifty nature especially when it came to Vega. It only became more painfully obvious now that they've come to her for simple drugs. Antidepressants weren't any fun, but she had something fun.]
Vega sighed. They had come for antidepressants and antidepressants alone, they didn’t want something to make them see pretty shapes and colors or whatever, but it really just depends on what she was offering and if it would actually boost their serotonin more.
× 、: ✎・" fine. What is it? "
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ If you're up for it, I have psilocybin or ketamine. Both work super quickly unlike some of the others, and definitely faster than most MOAIs. ” ˖ ੭
[She lays out the facts like a rehearsed speak. She's had this discussion about a dozen times before, and somehow, it never gets old. She likes having this weird conversation with people. She speaks rather proudly about her drugs but not so loudly.]
× 、: ✎・" those are hallucinogens, wouldn’t it be a bit more obvious to tell if I was taking drugs with something like those? "
Vega was skeptical of course, it wasn’t something that they were looking for, but if they were basically free then it didn’t hurt to try. They could stop anytime they wanted, so they just nodded as a sign of ‘I’ll take them’. However they also wanted to go back in the conversation just for a minute.
× 、: ✎・" … do you have anything that could double as an aphrodisiac or is it just maoi.. "
Their voice was much quieter, barely even a whisper, but if Poppy didn’t hear they definitely weren’t repeating themselves.
[Poppy was very quickly disoriented about the question for aphrodisiacs. She didn't like aphrodisiacs, but she did have some. She only sold them to very particular people, people she knew weren't going to harm others with them. She hesitated on even giving them the psilocybin now. What exactly were they getting these drugs for?]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Why? ” ˖ ੭
[Poppy's tone was flat again, curious and extremely skeptical. Vega didn't come off as someone who'd hurt anyone else, but those are the people that tend to do the worst when you aren't looking. She's not getting wrapped up in shit she can't defend herself in especially in front of cameras.]
If Poppy heard them at all, they weren’t expecting them to be concerned about it, more so tease them for asking for something like that. It did make sense as to why she was more questionable about it, it wasn’t the best thing to ask for, but they didn’t really know how to say it without it sounding gross or it having too much information.
× 、: ✎・" just—it’s for me if that’s what you’re worried about.. "
…the conversation would get no where and they wouldn’t get the drugs like that.
× 、: ✎・" …my partner is interested in physical intimacy, that’s all. I don’t plan on drugging other people. "
[Poppy's heart dropped in an instant. She wasn't stupid to these types of scenarios. She always detested the use of aphrodisiacs in the first place. If you need a drug to get you horny, you don't need to be horny in the first place. She didn't exactly want to deny Vega though or assume the situation so quickly.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Are you interested? ” ˖ ੭
[A rather personal question, but one that felt necessary. If Vega was interested, she'd give it to them, but if not, she wasn't going to. She was also interested in this mystery partner that she'd never heard about before.]
× 、: ✎・" … in the drug? I don’t mean to sound blunt but if I wasn’t interested I wouldn’t ask. "
They kind of hoped it was just a stupid question rather than a question about their relationship, because they didn’t know if they were interested either. No.. they weren’t interested at all, maybe later in life but not now. They just knew that their partner wanted it, and they already were being intimate so Vega might as well try to get in a state to enjoy it.
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ You know what I meant, Vega. ” ˖ ੭
[She sounded harsh, concerned even. She didn't want to give him something that she wasn't sure he needed. Sure, nobody needs drugs, but it helps. She's not a righteous person, she doesn't try to be, but this felt like crossing a line by a hundred miles.]
× 、: ✎・" … of course I’m interested I wouldn’t be buying that stuff if I wasn’t interested. "
They didn’t know if it was an obvious lie or not, but they weren’t really expecting it to go this way, talking about all of this. They didn’t need to vent to a drug dealer, or even mention anything of the sorts. Wasn’t it just an expectation that you tell them what you want and you leave after they give it to you without question? Because that’s how it was in movies.
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ . . . Are you interested in actually having sex with the guy? ” ˖ ੭
[Poppy's voice became blunt, concerned, and authoritative. It was hard to take the short girl seriously given their major height difference, but in the end, she still saw Vega has a friend and wants to look out for them. Also, unfortunately for Vega, Poppy is no movie-dealer. She likes knowing why people are buying her stuff because she doesn't wanna hand it out to the wrong people.]
× 、: ✎・" yeah..? "
He wanted to say no, and just leave with the antidepressants, but this was going to happen if the aphrodisiacs or not, so they just wanted it to bear it more. If Poppy wasn’t going to offer it though, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something like that, right? No, it definitely would be and this was their only chance, but buying drugs was already awkward as is and this was making it worse. Maybe it really was his fault for bringing it up though.
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Fine, I'll give you the stupid aphrodisiacs. ” ˖ ੭
[She sounded extremely reluctant to do so. She hated them in the first place, but she had no reason not to. He could definitely be lying to her, but how would she know? All she could do was trust her gut, and she was going against it.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Find me outside later, I'll have your shit. ” ˖ ੭
[There was a brief pause before she turned around. She'd actually have to go find the aphrodisiacs she has stashed somewhere in her apartment. Before she turned to leave however...]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ . . . You can talk to me if you need me by the way. I won't judge you. ” ˖ ੭
[She pauses before walking, seeing if there's anything Vega wants to interject.]

Vega sighed. They had come for antidepressants and antidepressants alone, they didn’t want something to make them see pretty shapes and colors or whatever, but it really just depends on what she was offering and if it would actually boost their serotonin more.

If Poppy heard them at all, they weren’t expecting them to be concerned about it, more so tease them for asking for something like that. It did make sense as to why she was more questionable about it, it wasn’t the best thing to ask for, but they didn’t really know how to say it without it sounding gross or it having too much information.

Vega has been acting strange all morning. Not that it was too different, but they were looking around frantically and fiddling with something in their pocket. They didn’t really know Poppy’s ‘conditions’, if it was a trade or a just buying it, but they shoved their pockets full of change anyway. // i love writing actions as if its from the thought process of the character which is what i do with Poppy all the time
Poppy saw many people when it came to selling. From the sweetest looking girls around who need to take the edge off, to the broadest men they’d ever seen who looked like they chewed rubber for fun. But this was a first. A sophomore at most, absolutely couldn’t be any higher on the chain, was leaning against a locker trying to spark up a conversation. No one ever knew how to prompt a purchase, they were always amateurs. Arms covered in stupid massive sleeves, a now-tank-top that looked like it once had sleeves, and shorts mid-winter. Sailor was that kid who had skipped a few years, got into the school year late, and still wasn’t failing as hard as one would imagine. Worst of all he was generally bright and loud, as well as clearly trying to get her attention.
“Uhhh… hi? Just curious, I heard a runor or two and heard you may be the person to talk to? I could be wrong!”
@dappydeskmate
[Younger people were much harder to come by in terms of selling. It was mostly Poppy's age if not much, much, older. It was a surprise to see such a young face asking for her services. She ran a hair through her hair and almost ignored the kid entirely. He was awkward, almost too awkward. It made her suspicious of his true intentions... Yet kids were easier to rob out of money. It was easy to upcharge them, and they wouldn't have a single clue. So, hesitantly, Poppy decides to take Sailor up on the option.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ I might be, I might not be. What's the rumor? ” ˖ ੭
[She responds as casually as possible while remaining as vague as possible. If he was here on a different rumor, she didn't want to sell herself out by asking if he wants drugs, so she tried to tip-toe around the subject instead. Not to mention that schools weren't the best place for deals.]
The kid looks BEYOND nervous to be talking here, glancing around like one wrong move is the end for him. But he seems thrilled to have been acknowledged at all and seems to take this as confirmation that he was right.
“I… don’t think I should say the rumor aloud so publicly, but we could chat outside? I mean. I don’t have anything important this next block, wanna walk?”
The bizarre thing is that he didn’t look like some kid trying to get his hands on a good time or to break the rules, he looked eager to talk but not THAT kind of eager. He seemed happy to just have the conversation. And like he was set to explode with energy. Extroverts were a pain.
[She just shrugs and nods, nudging him to take the lead. Once he does, she walks behind him. She doesn't know this kid, but he doesn't look like the kind of person well-thought of, so she tries to look as distant from him as possible. She got enough shit for being around Vega even if she was mostly picking on him, she didn't want to be in deeper shit for being with an unlikable kid. She could hear the new rumors spiraling before they've even began. She clutches her backpack straps tighter and tighter.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ So, what's your next block anyway? ” ˖ ੭
[She speaks calmly, but her head is anything but calm. She was always so worried about her reputation. It did affect her business after all. She could see the excitement bursting out of the kid anyway, and she almost regrets asking. Exotroverts were her least favorite kind of people as an introvert herself. (Her favorite kind being lonely losers like Vega.)]
He almost stumbles when shoved, almost like his whole body is bracing at impact. There’s something slightly wrong and alert buzzing behind his eyes until he notices they were just getting him to move. He grins again, chattering and having no issue making it look like he’s just talking to himself. It earns him no more looks than his general existence did, right?
“Oh next? Math, nothing fancy. I’ll just do the work later- y’know I almost got a construction job once! After you know blueprints and measurements, the basic levels of math kind of fall into place. You? Or do you want me to just keep talking?”
He’s chatty, but he does seem to be keeping the attention drawn to himself, gesturing and not so much as looking back at Poppy. He’d make a wonderful Orpheus. His head was calmer than it should be. He lead easily, down an emptier hallway, towards the bleachers and fields. It was just cold enough for all gym classes to be indoors.
[Poppy faux-gags as soon as math is mentioned. She's not fond if the subject herself. She's curious about this construction job though. If he's that good, he must have a decent amount of money on him, and she could upcharge him to hell. There's a sinister look in her eyes as they keep walking. She's closer to him now, almost right beside him but trailing far enough back to not seem suspicious by other people.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ I have english. Hate the teacher though. ˖ ੭
[That teacher was a bitch. Not to everyone, just specifically to Poppy. She had a feeling of why, but nothing set in stone yet. It was just a hunch for now. The two finally escaped into the cold outdoors. Poppy leans against one of the walls nearby, just out of detection from a camera nearby. That and the fact she's rather tired from walking such a short distance. She waits for the boy in front of her to speak first, beckoning him on.]
Sailor’s laugh is almost too quick, like he’s starting to actually get nervous again, remembering where they are and all. He’s balling his sleeves in a fist, only to release it and start all over again.
“Yeah… I get that feeling. You skip a grade too many and people think you’re a know-it-all or something stupid. Teachers included.”
He’s followed, honestly trailed along like a proper professional, despite how he was louder than Poppy’s usual customers. He rocks on his heels, scanning surroundings and prodding something in his pocket.
“So… youuuuu… sell? Do you have a good supplier?”
[Poppy tilted her head. The kid really was here for the good shit. She expected it, but it somehow still surprised her. She shrugged and straightened up after.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ I do sell. ˖ ੭
[She doesn't answer the question about her supplier. She is her own supplier. She grows and makes everything herself due to her insane amount of supplies for it.]
Sailor couldn’t help it, he snorted and smiled a bit. His nerves eased like all the tension had come from keeping in a massive grin, and not the current drug deal. He balled up his sleeves some more, but was relaxing into his own shape. Short still, his grandpa would joke that he hadn’t hit the family growth spurt. Lanky, enough to reach rigging and beneath furniture where things could be stashed.
“Pot yeah? But I’m betting your access is limited right? I… kinda want to offer a deal?”
Sailor’s hand is unsteady when he takes it out of his pocket, a pack of cigarettes, uncreased and simple. Marlboro reds, which he simply passed over.
“Might help you get a new crowd? I don’t have many so I’d recommend keeping it to only a few people, but I’ve got that, I could get liquor pretty easy, maybe a few cigars? But those I can only get one at a time.”
[Poppy's eyes widen at the sight of the Marlboro Reds and only seem to get bigger as he continues to talk. Oh, this was the good shit. She could make some good fucking money off of this kid, and all she had to do was supply him. A mischevious gleam flashed in her eyes as she grinned. She wasn't stupid however. No matter how big her greed was, she pushed the cigarettes back to him.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Hold on, what do you get out of this? Other than Pot, I mean. ” ˖ ੭
[She's skeptical. It's evident in her tone, no wonder she was somewhat, kinda, not really friends with Vega. She probably fueled his paranoia. Though her skepticism could only reign so much, she kept eyeing the pack of cigarettes. They're in pristine condition and only a limited supply of them. God, supply and demand was a beautiful thing when it worked in her favor.]
Sailor’s grin was actually rather bright, not afraid and not hesitant at all, as he took the cigarettes back but just stashed them in his pocket again. But he did laugh a bit at the gleam, he wasn’t dumb, he could recognize the intrigue.
“Oh! Oh, no I don’t want a trade. I don’t smoke much, not really interested. I wanted to go 60/40, on pricing. You can upsell a bit, these aren’t something most people can grow or produce, let alone alcohol. This one was going to be just an incentive, but if you’re not interested that’s okay.”
Sailor offered a small shrug, but there was a mischief in his eyes. This wasn’t his first deal, or his first conversation like this, but Poppy knew for a fact that no one around the school was selling cigarettes or alcohol consistently.
[Poppy notices the change in demeanor. He's much less skittish now, probably because he knows she can't get him in trouble without getting herself in trouble. Not like she would anyway, she hated the authority here, and it'd be too much of a hassle, and the police and blah, blah blah.]
[She stares down at where the cigarettes were. She didn't wanna meet his gaze, she never liked looking anyone in the eye. It was uncomfortable to say the least. She looked up at the camera above them briefly. They were far enough away where it couldn't hear them but still underneath it enough where it couldn't see either. She didn't like splitting money, it was a whole lot of math she wasn't really good at. She leaned against the wall behind her as she thought. She'd be making potentially a decent bit more money, but how would she know that the kid wouldn't turn her in unexpectedly? She'd literally just met him, and she had no idea he was even here before, but if he went off to sell his own business she'd be in competitive danger.]
[She eventually just shrugged and stuck out her hand for him to shake.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Sure, why not. ” ˖ ੭
[She was always reckless with these sorts of things. Anything to fuel her greed was something good in her book even with the immense risks that came with it.]
And it was back in seconds. The grin, the casual chatty mood he brought about with a bat of an eye, as he excitedly shook her hand back. His sleeves were massive and swallowed her hand.
“Oh!!! Oh I was worried you were going to say no, this is so cool! This’ll be fun I know it! Oh and you can keep these I don’t actually want them on me when I go to work.”
Sailor passed over the Marlboro Reds without a mention of pricing or any questions about delivery. Incentive, right? He was rocking on his heels again, not making eye contact to hopefully keep everyone involved more comfortable.
“I can give you a rundown of inventory in a couple days. So you know what to start pushing and all!”
[She pulled her hand back almost immediately after it was swallowed by his sleeve. He was an oddly chirpy kid, but he was much kinder. She quickly took the Marlboro Reds and stuffed them in her jacket pocket. She pushed the pack of cigarettes behind her phone that was also stationed in her pocket.]
[He was just as chirpy and potentially as chatty as Elise, but he didn't seem as rude. It was strangely nice. She nodded absentmindedly as he talked. Barely retaining anything he said until he said something about inventory. She nodded a bit more vigorously that time.]
[As much as she should probably sell the pack in her pocket, she's definitely going to smoke it later. She might share with Elise if he's nice enough to her or scare the shit out of Vega by hiding them in her locker... Anyway.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ Yeah, thanks... Why are you doing this? ” ˖ ੭
[She honestly blurted out the question before she could even register it. It was probably intrusive, but she didn't backpeddle on her words. She stared at him intensely, seeking an answer.]
The stare was… intense. Maybe Sailor should’ve felt interrogated, like he was being picked apart or questioned or threatened. But he was… entirely upfront. He had no reason to lie or keep things from them right? They were business partners now!
“Oh! I guess I just need the cash. I mean, it’s the basics of trade right? Give what you have to offer, get what you need. Do… you have a reason?”
A small part of him was quietly wondering how well pre-opened bottles would sell, or slightly dented cans. Let alone how he could get everything around with his bike… well. THE bike. It was technically not his but the bike lock popped off pretty easily. But to Poppy he still offered that grin, like his answer was as normal as could be.
[Poppy's reason? Was he really asking that? Money should've been the answer she gave, it was true, but it ran deeper. Not that she cared about how deep her potential substance abuse trauma ran. Her parents did it, therefore she did, and then she found out she could sell it, that was the simple answer, and the answer she kept trying to gaslight herself into thinking was true.]
[She was honestly curious about the cigarettes. She had never smoked one really. I mean, she had taken one from someone who offered her at a party, but she didn't have it for long. She pulled the pack back out and peeled the plastic wrapping it. She hit the bottom afterwards, she'd seen others do it so might as well follow tradition. She took one out after just to realize she doesn't have a lighter.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ My reason is whatever's believable- Do you have a lighter? ” ˖ ੭
[Out of the millions of things she carried on her, she doesn't have a lighter. She sticks the cigarettes in her mouth and searches through her pockets. A box cutter, some pencils, pens, even some coke in there (why is that in there?), but not a single damn lighter. She lets out an irritated groan.]
”Anything can be believable if you choose to believe. Plus people have all sorts of reasons, and yeah here wait.”
Sailor sounded almost detached for that first sentence, like he truly earnestly wanted to mean it with his whole chest. But he shrugged, watching Poppy’s head tick as he pulled out an almost stereotypically old looking oil lighter, in slightly dented silver with the lid that clucked perfectly when you swung it open. It was his grandfather’s of course. Everything was always his.
“I was gonna ask if you’ve smoked before, but that seems silly now. Can I get just a puff from you? You can totally say no, those were a gift.”
[Poppy stared at the dingy old lighter for a moment. She gently took it out of the kid's hands like she would break it if not careful. She lit her own cigarette. She pocketed the lighter after to free her hands and gave him a cigarette. She probably wouldn't smoke them all and damn well knew Elise wouldn't. She also gave him the lighter back afterwards.]
[She inhaled the smoke deeply but exhaled quickly after. She coughed after, not a bad cough but a noticeable one. God, she hated that part. By no means was she an experienced smoker, never really wanted to be. It was just a one-way ticket to lung cancer, but she really wished she wouldn't cough after taking a drag of it. It was weirdly embarassing.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ No, I've never actually smoked a cigarette. Maybe took a hit of one, but not a full one. ” ˖ ੭
[Yeah, and it showed.]
Sailor’s response was immediate, waving his hands in front of him and shaking his head adamantly when offered a cigarette of his own.
“Oh! No, no I don’t need a whole one, just a puff I swear! I never smoke a whole one, it would be a waste.”
But he took back his lighter, flicking it open and closed again and again. Then, shoving it in his pocket, he made a bit of a confused face.
“Really? Huh. I’m the opposite! With pot, I mean. That’s kinda cool. We match!”
It did in fact show, but Sailor wasn’t one to critique technique.
[Poppy still gestured for the kid to take the cigarette. She didn't care if it'd be a waste, just wanted to share. God, that sounded way too sentimental and sappy, ew. She stuffed the rest of the pack in her jacket, so he could either take it or throw it away. She took another drag of the cigarette, coughed again, and then finally responded.]
🐞 ヾ ͙ “ I guess we do... What's your name by the way? ” ˖ ੭
[She sounded unethused for that first half, but she didn't mean it like that. She just thought the comment was strange. Matching having harmful substances, so cute... sarcasm. Also, she really accepted a deal with a guy she didn't even know the name of. She began to mull over how absolutely stupid that was, but she was in too far now.]
@dappydeskmate
