Eric rushed over, pulling out his knife from the tree. “I’m so sorry, I was doing some practice throws and i didn’t think anyone came out this way, but I guess some have the same ideas as I do. I’m Eric, Eric Brinley.”
Darcy narrowed her eyes at Eric before letting go of what he did earlier, instead choosing to introduce herself. "Darcy, Darcy Edwards."
After spending days out, Adam dragged himself back into the mall. The frustration was evident on his face and in his stance. There was barely anything out there anymore…it was all gone, all of it. With a stern look on his face, he made his way into the bathroom and tossed his unloaded gun away, letting the cold water run. He washed his face and ran his hands through his hair, taking a deep breath in. He placed his hands at the end of the sink, looking up at his reflection in the dirty mirror. He stared at his seemingly dull emerald orbs with black bags under them. Not being able to look at himself any longer, he turned the faucet off and turned around when he heard some movement in the bathroom “Who’s there?” he asked in an alarmed tone.
Darcy slipped into the bathroom after finishing up some of her duties, washing her hands quickly and ducking into a stall and sitting down on the floor, letting out a deep breath. She hadn't quite finished everything she had to do but she was tired and needed to rest for a bit, she barely ever got any sleep after all. She was hoping that no one would come into the bathroom and bother her. However, someone came in and Darcy almost let out a groan when she heard the footsteps but bit her tongue back, she really didn't want to talk to anyone. Instead she stood up, intending to slip out of the bathroom hopefully unseen. As she stood up, her foot slipped and had to use the sides of the stall to catch herself, this was done not so silently. Knowing she'd been heard, she walked out of the stall with a sigh. "It's just me, Darcy."
After his long run, Eric decided to practice his throwing skills, not paying attention, he threw, almost nicking the innocent bystander in the nose. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t see you there.”
Darcy yelped as something almost came in contact with her nose, her hand flying up to make sure she was okay. Her eyes followed the thrower of whatever had come her way and she shook her head, annoyed. "Jesus christ, we're supposed to be aiming things at walkers not still living humans."
"It’s days like this that I— I miss my mom." The petite brunette muttered, resisting the tears that were building.
"So much."
"Days like what? Every day's the same in this damn place." Darcy muttered having overheard the girl and getting a tad bit annoyed. She preferred when people kept their sorrows to themselves.
After a long day of keeping watch and overall involvement in the group, Oliver had begun to grow weary of the company he was around, like he usually did. It was nothing against the people around him, well sometimes it was, but being on his own was just something that came more naturally to him than most things. And when he was on his own, he worked things out quicker and easier. Oliver began searching around the odd corners of the mall, the places nobody ever wanted to go through mostly because they were afraid of what could be lurking around. He’d taken one of the back hallways for janitors near the bathroom, gun at the ready and knife in hand as he made his way down. Oliver recognized his mistake the second it happened; he had grown careless, not checking the corners before he rounded them, and it proved detrimental when he turned and suddenly a walker was upon him, grabbing hold of his shoulders and bringing him down to the ground. Oliver was so taken aback he had stumbled, somehow landing at the wrong angle on his ankle. Now he was writhing in pain with a walker over his body, attempting to cut down on his flesh. Oliver was panicking at this point, shoving and grunting in the effort of freeing himself. “Help!” He shouted, though he assumed that no one would even be around this hallway anyway. “Please!” He tried again.
Darcy had been wandering the empty hallways of the mall again, lost in her own thoughts and just wanting some time to herself. She did that often, she didn't have many friends anyway so it wasn't like anyone would worry about her all too much. She kept her footsteps light, aware that a walker could jump out at her at any given moment. Darcy wasn't thinking of anything in particular just about her life now and her life then, things that made her even more depressed than usual. A shout interrupted her thoughts and Darcy immediately tried to follow the source of it. Another shout followed and her steps quickened, gun out already. She turned a corner to find a refugee tackled to the ground by a walker. Darcy came closer to the two and shot the zombie in the head before kicking it off the human, holding her hand out to help him. "You should be more careful, you know."
"You k-know— It would probably be best f-for you to bandage that." Her voice was quiet as she perched herself upon an old table, rummaging through her bag of select supplies to reveal a roll of medical gauze. "I c-can help. Kind of."
Darcy swore under her breath as the blood dripped down her arm, hissing in pain every few seconds, before looking back up to find herself staring at a ginger. Usually, she'd be cautious and act snappy towards random strangers but she was currently at a disadvantage and would obviously lose a fight against the other girl. So instead she showed her arm to the stranger, offering it for inspection. "It isn't too bad, but yeah, could you help me out?" She inhaled a sharp breath again, the sight of blood making her panic a bit.
"I’m alone.." Alaska folds her hands in front of her, knowing if she were to place her hands into her pockets or behind her back one may see it as a threat. "I was supposed to meet my brother here.. and he.. uh… -I’m still waiting and it’s been weeks." She was embrassed admitting that, more so she was afraid and scared. No one was her friend as far as she knew and she had already been robbed of the few things she had. "I think I’ve been here long enough to figure out the ins and outs of the place. You guys should think about ceiling the vents. Just… a suggestion." A smile finds its way to her lips, the idea that she had snuck around so long without being seen gave her hope about surviving in the new world. "You’re not like the others are you?"
Darcy nodded, this much was obvious but she felt like she still needed the clarification. She continued listening to the girl, and had to bite her tongue from saying something cynical to the girl. Her brother was obviously not coming but she knew what it was like to have a hope that someone wasn't really gone yet. "Really? Jesus, I have got to talk to Cainan about that." She replied, mostly to herself, she figured if Alaska was able to just waltz in the food court without anyone seeing her, anyone else could as well. And that's the last thing Darcy wants. "So you've just been hiding out? You know, we've been here for some time now, you could have just said something to us, we don't bite." She let out a light laugh, glancing at the girl. "What do you mean by that?"
"Alaska Hart." The blonde whispers in turn after clearing her throat rather loudly, the echo falling short as it leaves the cafeteria walls. "Group?" She asks politely, confusion lacing with her words. She didn’t know there was several people still alive let alone the girl before her was enough of a shock to take in more. "There’s more of you?" She wasn’t directing the question to Darcy, more so the air around them, completely baffled by the idea of survivors. "I came alone.. I." She bites her tongue at the following questions. Was she alright? "Is anyone really?"
Darcy nodded, the idea of people traveling in groups was something she was used to and she didn't know many people who had come to the mall on their own. "Group, you know, the people you traveled with..." She had obviously come alone but still, thatwas hard for her to wrap her mind around. Sure, Darcy traveled alone but when she arrived, she was always with people now. "Well, yes, quite a few of us actually. I'm surprised you were able to make it past the entrance without being seen actually." She nodded before looking up in thought and answering back when she found a suitable thing to say. "No, but we try our best to be and so, we make ourselves believe that we are. Well, I have. At least."
"I.." She moved herself from the shadows, seeming a little out of place and possibly threatening if she loomed in the darkness. "I’m not going to hurt you or anything.. I-What am I saying." She was distraught, having spent so much time alone had left her in a state of anti socialism from lack of communication. "I’m Alaska."
"Darcy Edwards." She answered back, looking over at the other girl worriedly. She seemed scared, helpless and it made Darcy's heart ache. People seemed to do that to her, they made her feel sympathy even though she absolutely hated people's company and socializing. "Did you come in with another group?" Darcy gestured to somewhere outside the mall, she seemed lonely like she hadn't spoken to another living human being in days. "Are you... Alright? It's a dumb question, what with the situation we have, but it's valid."
How weak and helpless Vienna must have appeared to the blonde who had come into the picture, through tear-filled eyes she could have sworn it was someone she was familiar with. Yet her fear kept her locked in position, she couldn’t even find the will to run, run, run for her life — she stayed and awaited what? The creature to come and take her for its own delight? A sick twist in her stomach caused the girl to nearly gag, her shaking hand unable to hold the gun upright. The need to pull the trigger was released when she heard the sound of gunfire and then the drop of a body, then silence. Fumbling with the weapon, Vienna returned it to its rightful place, quickly using her hands to wipe her eyes, vision clearing to find an old friend turned saviour, Darcy, standing there. The lump in her throat caused Vienna to stay silent despite being spoken to, she could only nod in response. Timidly she approached the other female, her body still quaking in the aftermath of the situation. Finally she rasped, “Thank you.” The awkward situation only worsened by her lack of expression, but she was absolutely mortified by the sight of the creature, approaching her in its slow pace, its repulsive features replaying in her mind. “I know, I should’ve known, Cainan would be so.. so pissed at me right now.” And she was truly ashamed of herself, knowing she was only a hindrance to the group, what with her outstanding inability to not react appropriately in dire situations.
Darcy tucked the gun away again, still choosing to keep her distance from her old friend. She was over the whole ordeal and everything that happened between them but Vienna was just someone she didn't like to associate with anymore because of what she did. She moved a bit closer to the fallen body just to make sure that it was gone for good and that there were no chances of it coming back to life and looked back up at the girl, nodding. "It was nothing." Finally, after inspecting the body, she moved a little closer to Vienna checking for any injuries but still from a distance, there was tension between them and it wasn't going to be easily resolved. "It's a good thing Cainan's not here then, yeah?" She mused, shrugging, knowing that Cainan would be angry and knowing that Vienna was probably relieved that it was her that came to the rescue not their leader. She had always known that Vienna didn't react well with these kinds of things and sometimes she'd have moments where she felt sorry about it because everyone probably gave her a hard time with it. She stood there for a little while longer before speaking. "You're not hurt, are you?" Her question was sincere because while they didn't exactly end their friendship on the best terms, Darcy always found she was protective of the members in her group.
