"Unbind Me" //Surprise me
âUnbind Meâ
@dariamus
Everything was going well.Â
Then suddenly he wasnât so well. Jayce could feel sweat beginning to form on his brow. The muscles in his face grew strained and he was thankful for the helmet protecting his identity. Jayceâs numbed hand gripped the table tightly as he spoke with a steady voice. He was sure he would break it with his strength but the table held strong. A couple more minutesâŚ
There.Â
The meeting was adjourned and Jayce hastily turned to make his escape before he could collapse. â Apollo, excuse me! I have much to still discuss with you!â Called a strong female voice. She approached him, smiling delicately, silk gloves dirtied and dark eyes gleaming with deceitful intent. Annoyance stung him sharply. Jayce raised his hand dismissively. He was sure he was about to give out. Breathing was hard and he had to focus on that instead of speaking and wasting energy uselessly.Â
Then he felt a firm touch against his waist, a gripping hand that held his weak body upright without drawing attention. Jayce let out a quiet breath, turning his head to see Darius standing tall beside him. His face remained impassive, a heavy wall of stone and impressive aptitude for leadership. Jayce almost envied it in that fleeting moment.Â
âMy General and Commander have much to discuss as well about future plans at the moment. You may direct your questions to me or contact him at a later date,â Swain spoke, still sitting at his chair, finger hooked to motion the woman to him. She faltered, shaking her head with a tight smile.Â
Jayce wasnât watching anymore, wasnât listening. He let his head slide against Dariusâ chest. His legs felt like there were bees inside, buzzing and vibrating with painful activity. Darius muttered something and lead him out of the room and into an empty and dim hallway. Jayce collapsed and Darius caught him with a grunt.Â
Dizziness assailed Jayce and he hadnât been aware that they were already in Dariusâ room until he felt the plush coolness of the bed beneath him. He heard the door shut and struggled to lift his hand up to press the release on his helmet. Darius swooped down and felt around the metal. There was a click, a hiss, then relief as cool air hit Jayceâs face. He breathed raggedly.Â
âWhat the hell happened?â Darius asked roughly and placed Jayceâs helmet onto a nearby table. He was back beside him to brush Jayceâs messy hair back. âWeakness,â Jayce wheezed out. âWeakness in the legs. It happens occasionally from time to time. Rarely. My legs give out and itâs hard to breathe.â Darius glanced at Jayceâs weak knee. âWill it affect your performance in battle?â he asked. âNo. But if it does I trust you to deal with me quickly if I ever become a liability. Itâs just a side effect from the accident I had that took my arm.â Jayce laughed weakly, falling into a quiet sigh at the end. Â
Darius touched his knee and Jayce didnât respond except for the slightest twitch in his fingers. He peered at Darius wearily, hearing his own pulse in his ears. Dariusâ touch was curious at first, almost cautious as if he was fragile. Jayce hated that. He was not fragile, he was not weak and Darius should know this more than anyone.Â
Jayce narrowed his eyes. His hand darted forward with swift fire to grab Dariusâ wrist. âDonât treat me softly,â he hissed.Â
Donât treat me gently, he thought almost miserably.Â
Donât make me feel.Â
Their eyes met and there was a silence between them for a moment before Jayce finally let go, dropping his head tiredly against the sheets.
