“I know you do.” She replied softly before wrapping her arms around him in a hug. “You don’t have to apologize.” She looked him in the eyes, “You do know you can ask me for help too right?” She offered. She hated to think the whole world was on his shoulders.

He immediately hugged her back, not wanting to let her go. “I know, but I feel like I should.” He nodded as he looked at her. “I know,love. I appreciate your supporting me. Thank you, babe.” He kissed her forehead gently.

“Correct answer.” Selina replied, glancing out of her window. The world was dark and still, the only light coming from dimly light street lights that followed down the path of the dorms. “Well, you’ve been here much longer than me and I’m failing to find anything worthwhile to do in this town.  Surprise me.”

“Exactly” He said simply. Given that he hadn’t been outside in hours, the hour was lost on him. Given he didn’t feel drowsy, he could only assume it was deeper into the night. “That I have.  I got it, I found this very dive karaoke bar not long ago. Be ready to go in say, 10? Drinks are on me”

“You, uh… You okay, Bruce?”

“Not exactly, but you know me, I’ll be fine.”

“Well, Bruce, tell me what sort sort of certain circumstances you want and I’ll make them happen.” Selina teased, the smirk radiating through her voice, “Oh, God, that sounds boring- how do you manage to work all the time without wanting to explode? And a big fat nothing- this academy is full of such dull people and no one even wants to stay out past curfew let alone do anything interesting. Oh, come on, Bat, cure a girl’s boredom.”

“Now, now, Selina, no one likes an overexcited kitty, now do they?” He replied smirking to himself. “Well, when it keeps me as rich as I am, it becomes easier to tolerate. Oh well, those people suck. I’m damn near nocturnal. Alright, sure, what’d you have in mind?”

“I understand that and you should do what you can…but don’t get so frustrated with the man, he’s doing his best.” she explained. “You can’t protect them from everything. You can only train them the best you can and believe in them.” She replied softly placing a hand on his shoulder.

“I know, I know... I’m sorry. I just want what’s best for them is all.” He kissed her hand gently.

“What are you protecting.” She asked curiously tilting her head.

“I’m trying to protect all of them. Damian, Jason, Babs, all of them....” He sighed. “If I’m going to put them in the line of fire...” He whispered softly. “I can’t let them get hurt.....”

“Oh, Bruce- how disappointing. I was expecting a much more welcoming answer.” Selina teased, pacing around in circles in her dorm room, her facial expressions changing as if she was talking to him face to face. Maybe she just couldn’t help talking theatrically, it was part of her thing. “What are you doing? Getting into trouble, I hope.”

“Well, Selina it takes certain circumstances to make me say ‘Come to my room but make sure you’re wearing the mask’ you know.” He said, smirking a bit as he leaned against the wall. “Nothing much, just considering actually granting a few employees tenure. What about you? I’m already assuming trouble, but what kind?”

She waved her hands, still smiling.  “Sorry, sorry.  That was mean.  Just…don’t tell me you’ve got secret mutant bat wings that you’ve been hiding from me all this time.”

He shrugged gently. “It’s fine, no one’s supposed to know anyway. Nah, it’s this whole thing, you don’t wanna hear it.”

Tony ‘s fingers graced the metallic bracelet on his opposing hand all but ready to call the armor before raising his hands in surrender. This was not worth revealing himself over, besides it was just Bruce. “Little high strung there?” Tony spoke lacking all sense of self preservation, “A guy can’t come check on his old pal and scope out how the competition’s doing?”

He pressed the blade tighter against his skin until he raised his hands. “Atta boy, Stark. Don’t worry, I have enough toys for both of us.”  He narrowed his eyes a bit at him. “Given you have a blade at your throat and another poised between your eyes, I’d say no.”

She tried her best not to snort, but failed.  “…Batman?  Seriously?  It sounds like a National Inquirer headline.”
