Not a Sham
@darknessintothelight
The weather could be described as finicky. Just a few days ago, the skies were clear; a perfect setting for the Festival of Lights. Xion thought that the rest of the winter season was going to have this mild type of weather. Where there was a bite to the cold, but nothing too serious. She didn’t expect herself to be caught in the storm.
Xion was trying to find her friend, Riku. The two had gotten separated during the blizzard and girl wanted to make sure he was safe. Of course Riku was safe. The boy was taller and stronger than her but she couldn’t help but worry. It wasn’t long before the girl saw her silver-haired friend. Since when did he own a long black coat?
I don’t know who you’re supposed to be…but you can’t fight fire with sparks. Riku had his back to Xion, he was holding something up. This keyblade is a sham…worthless.
She had started walking towards him but was intervened by her…keyblade? It had landed in the snow, tossed like it was a toy. Her footing was lost and soon, Xion was on the floor, her keyblade mere inches away from her. She looked to her weapon. Confusion washed over the girl, why would her friend say something like that to her? What did she ever to do to have her weapon be called a sham? Xion got hot with anger. Riku had no right of saying that. He didn’t know what she had gone through these past few months. She had no idea how her keyblade came to be but it was hers and it was not a fake.
“My keyblade is not a sham!” Xion was still on the ground, her words dripped with irritation, “What gives you the right to say that?”
Grabbing her weapon, Xion stood up and charged at the other. She was beside herself in anger but after a few moments, her keyblade dissapated and the Riku who she tried to attach disappeared into the wind. Xion stood there huffing, what just happened. Now she was frustrated. She let out a loud cry, “Riku!!”
What an odd time this was, truly. Just a short time ago, festivities from the festival of lights were happening virtually everywhere. Everyone was happy, having a good time. Riku didn’t often get to Frostias, but he figured it’d be a nice change of pace go out and do something fun like this and spend some time with his friends. However, all of that quickly changed when when a freak blizzard hit, making it almost impossible to properly navigate around if you were on the lookout for something. In this case, Riku had been hanging out with Xion as the blizzard struck, and in the process, lost her in all the chaos.
Sure, navigating a raging blizzard was definitely setting itself up to be a tough task, but it was something he had to do. He had to find Xion and make sure that nothing bad happened to her. What kind of a friend would he be if he just left her there in the snowstorm to potentially freeze to death? When he finally caught a glimpse of her black hair, something felt particularly strange. Xion was on the ground, and something looked different about her.
As he tossed her sham of a Keyblade to the ground, it wasn’t long before she attempted to charge at him in anger. As she got near, Riku simply sidestepped and brought his fist to her back, knocking her to the ground in defeat.
“Find a new crowd. Trust me. Those guys are bad news.”
Shortly after Xion fell to the ground, she seemingly vanished, and back came the blizzard he was seeing only moments before what just happened. All he could think was...really...what in the world just happened? Where...did that come from?
He was determined to move on from that trippy reality he just experienced and find his friend. Only taking a few steps further, he finally heard a familiar voice, no doubt it was Xion’s. She was calling his name, she must have been looking for him, too.
“Xion! Just hold on a second, I’ll be right there!”
@shadowofalegend
Without a doubt, Riku’s favourite place to hang out were the beaches of Solias. Even on the most troubling days, a trip to the beach where the sound of the waves crashing against the shore were enough to put him at ease. It was also the place where he’d often hang out with Kairi. In fact, they had their own particular spot they would always go to, a downed tree they would usually sit on and end up talking for hours. Rarely did he see anyone else in the spot, so it was always a little odd to see someone else there.
And this time when Riku arrived at his usual spot, there was someone else there. Because a lot of people typically didn’t come to this part of the island, he felt inclined to go and talk to the guy. From what he could see, the man wasn’t the tallest of people, however, his blonde, spiky hair seemed to help him a little bit in the height department. After looking analyzing the other male for a few seconds, he slowly waked up beside the blonde and looked out to the red sun setting over the water.
“Nice place, isn’t it? Sunsets don’t get any better than this.”
@angel-witha-demon
Naturally, Riku wasn’t the most social of people, despite what others may think. A good chunk of the time, he wasn’t really interested in meeting new people, he preferred hanging out with the people he was already familiar with, such as Namine or Kairi. But that didn’t mean he didn’t care about others. He always had the intention of doing the right thing when the time came.
From the other side of the street, he could see something fall out of a boy’s pocket, but he wasn’t quite sure what it was. He quickly made his way over to the side of the street the boy with the blue hair was walking on, and bent down to see what it was that fell out of his pocket. It only took him a few seconds before he started jogging to catch up with the boy to return what he had lost.
“Hey there! I think you dropped your wallet!” he said, extending the wallet over to the boy.
alright, gonna try this again and make a small starter call, and i’ll cap it at 4!
i apologize to those who i didn’t get to last time!
Kicking up some sand near the tree she was sitting on she was patiently waiting for Riku to show up. With Riku being the oldest out of their trio college kept him busy while her and Sora were still in high school, not that their busy schedules ever stopped them from having fun together.
“There you are Riku!
Sorry Sora couldn’t make it… he got in trouble for sleeping in class again. Looks like you’re stuck with me for the day!”
Hopping off the tree, she reached over to Riku’s arm and starting pulling him down towards the beach.
“School’s been the usual, but let’s not talk about that. Now’s the time to have fun!”
Stuck with Kairi, huh? Of course that wasn’t a bad thing, he was quite aware that Sora was kind of a slacker when it came to school. But any time he got to hang out with his best friends was something he was not about to take for granted. He simply shrugged and shook his head a little bit.
“Why am I not surprised...?” he said, a small smile appearing on his face. “That sounds pretty typical of him, that slacker. Well, not much we can do about it. We can still have fun, just the two of us.”
He looked out to the sea for a moment, the waves producing such a calming sound. Coming here, he was always able to find himself at ease. Not to mention the sunsets were absolutely breathtaking, the sky becoming the most beautiful shade of red. Before he totally immersed himself in the scenery, he turned back to Kairi, scratching the back of his head slightly.
“Y’know, I can’t believe how fast the year is going by.Now that I think of it, Christmas is getting pretty close, huh? It’s a really...nice time of year.” He was now visibly blushing, clearly thinking about the time he’d get to spend with Namine.
Ah, yes. It was November now, isn’t it? It explained why her workload had increased suddenly, why it was getting colder outside, why she’s seeing her older sister less and less. Now, she was drowning in sketches she needed to get done, as well as start thinking of pieces she’s going to compose for her senior showcase. With all that aside, she’s glad that, at least for the next few days, she can relax.
Soon, she’s coming up to the door, finding it unlocked as she comes in, and she smiles. Riku’s been busy with schoolwork as well, making it hard for the both of them to spend much time together. If he was home, it meant that he was able to relax too, and she sighs a bit in relief.
As if to confirm her thoughts, she hears his voice as she sets her backpack down, slipping off her shoes. With a smile, she tries not to skip up the stairs to get to him, and when she does, she’s beaming before coming to sit on the bed.
“A movie sounds wonderful,” she answers, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “How was your day?”
Her kiss on his cheek felt so warm and loving, a warm and loving feeling he couldn’t get from anyone else. Her kindness and gentleness always had him feeling at ease, even when he was having a stressful day. He blushed a little bit, pulling back the covers a little bit before sitting up a little bit more.
“Oh, you know, it was okay. A little stressful if anything, but I feel a lot better now that you’re here.” He smiled as wrapped his arm around her and gently kissed her forehead. “Here, why don’t you come under the covers, huh? It’s a lot warmer.”
He patted the available space next to him as he removed his arm from around her so she could get in. He figured he had talked enough about himself for now, now he really wanted to hear about her. “So how about you? How was your day? Better than mine I hope.”
Today had been tiring enough already– she had Xehanort’s lecture today, as well as a ton of homework assigned to do after that, and she still had to go to diving practice later on, but right now she was just too exhausted. So it was unfortunate that Riku caught her at a surlier than usual moment, although that wasn’t to say she was usually thrilled to see him anyway.
Out of her two sisters, Aqua was always concerned about Namine the most. She was the smallest, and of the three was the non-athlete, and generally far more soft spoken. Being the oldest, Aqua always worried about her well-being the most and was afraid of Namine being a pushover– Kairi was always a lot more boisterous and stubborn.
So it was probably natural that when Namine started to have a steady relationship before Kairi did that Aqua’s brain, sort of, well, broke. A breakdown, if one were to call it that. Unwarranted, but not unnatural. Riku had always been a family friend but it was only then that Aqua started being icy and openly hostile.
Her hand tightened into a fist before she relaxed it calmly by her side. She just didn’t want Namine to get hurt.
“Riku. It’s been a while, yeah.” She replied coolly, eyeing him suspiciously. Aqua had heard that Riku had been prone to trouble, but he didn’t look like he had been visibly in a fight lately, so that was good. He also seemed nervous.
Of her?
That was admittedly pretty funny.
“How’s your first year of college been so far?” Aqua asked idly, not sure what kind of conversation to make. This was actually kind of awkward.
Well either way, Riku figured that it just meant trouble whenever he saw Aqua, because he was quite aware that she probably wanted to kill him her something. However, this conversation he had started with her was going better than he would have initially anticipated. He attempted to calm himself down a little bit, as being nervous wasn’t really going to help him at all. He had to try and at least look a little bit confident.
“You know, it’s actually been pretty good. I’ve wanted to go into forensic science for a while now, so I’m pretty excited to be able to do something that I really enjoy, you know? I mean, this month has been a little hectic, what with all the papers and stuff to do, but I’m managing.” he paused for a moment, so far so good, he thought. “So how about you? How’s your senior year going? I imagine it must get pretty busy.”
@memorialheart
Being well into the month of November, it was getting to be quite the busy time in school. The semester was only about a month away from ending, and his schedule became filled with several essays and other assignments. It really was a stressful time for him, and right now, all he wanted to do was go home and relax a bit before focusing on his next assignment that was due. He figured that he at least deserved that much.
When he finally got home, the first thing he did was drop his bag on the floor near the door, taking his shoes off and heading up to his room. He promptly removed his clothes, throwing them on the floor lazily, figuring he could put them away later. He then slid under the covers of his bed and turned on the TV, hoping to find something at least half amusing. This felt really nice, treating himself to a relaxing evening for once. It was at that point that he heard the door down stairs opening, meaning it could only be Namine. Any time he got to spend with Namine was great, and he began to smile like an idiot. He propped his pillow upwards to get a better view of the TV before greeting Namine from upstairs.
“Hey Namine, wanna come upstairs and watch a movie or something?”
Found: Puppy
It wasn’t too often Xion spent time with Riku. Both were busy with their separate lives but that didn’t stop the two from trying to associate from time to time. Today though, it was different. They were walking and talking, catching up about school, work, relationships…just the usual hangout.
“Do you hear that?” Xion stopped walking and craned her neck. There was silence for a moment before she heard the small noise that she had heard before. “There it is! It sounds like a bark.”
She left her friend’s side and tried to pinpoint the sound. It was difficult because the sound was rather low but after a few moments of looking, Xion found the source.
“Riku!” she called him over as she crouched down, “It’s a puppy!” she moved some branches away from the bush she had wandered over to. Sure enough, there shivering under all those twigs and leaves was a small dog.
@darknessintothelight
Despite not hanging out with Xion as much as say, Kairi or Namine, that didn’t change the fact that he still thought of her as a good friend. Almost like a little sister, really. But he definitely did value the time he got to spend her with, she was always a fun spirit to be around, that’s for sure. It had been a little while since he had last hung out with her, so he figured that today would be as good a day as any to change that. Seemingly out of nowhere, she halted right in her tracks, listening intently to something. “Huh?” He looked in her direction and listened carefully before hearing the sound she was referring to. “Oh yeah, I hear it now. Sounds like a lost dog or something, huh?”
And just like that, Xion seemed pretty determined to find out where the barking was coming from. When she called him over, he looked down at the little puppy. Poor thing was out here all by itself. “Oh, so it is a little puppy. Poor thing looks like it’s been out here for a while. Think it has an owner?”

When he wasn’t busy hanging out with Namine or doing school work, Riku could usually be found hanging out with his two best friends, Sora and Kairi. One of their favourite places to hang out would be the beautiful beaches that Solias had to offer. And today wasn’t gonna be any different. He had promised Kairi earlier that he was going to meet her at the beach today after school. After all, he hadn’t seen her in a few days, which was almost considered along time with her. After finishing his class for the day, he made his way over to the beach and noticed Kairi waiting in the usual spot as he gave her a friendly wave. He made his way over to her and gave her small smile.
“Hey there, Kairi. Sorry we haven’t been able to meet up at all these past few days, school has kind of been a killer lately. So how’s school been going for you lately, huh?”
wayfoundwarrior
Of course in the past, Riku had met Aqua a bit due to the fact that he’s best friends with one of her younger sisters and dating the other. It would have been more surprising if he hadn’t met her at all. She had always been kind to him, that was, until he started dating Namine. Ever since then, he feels like she’s been giving him the cold shoulder.
In a sense, he could kind of understand why her kind demeanor faded away, because she seemed like she was very protective over her two younger sisters, which was understandable. Still though, it felt a little unfair to him that she was treating him like this just because the person he happened to be dating was Namine.
As he continued along for a walk, he noticed Aqua standing around, and even though she wasn’t on the best of terms with him, he figured he should at least greet her nonetheless. Either way, he wasn’t going to win with her, so he didn’t have much to lose. He walked over to Aqua and took a deep breath before thinking of the appropriate words to say.
“Uh, hey there, Aqua. It’s been a while, huh...? How...have you been doing...?” he was visibly nervous trying to start this conversation with Aqua, and really, who could blame him?
alrighty, let’s get right to it, like this for a mini starter!! although fair warning, I probably won’t be able to get to it until Tuesday or so!
