Shinji tried to recall if that name reminded him of something but nothing important came to his mind. He kept staring at him for a bit then he came to a conclusion “Mmh… Got it! I’ve met you while investigating something shifty! With that grumpy look of yours…. am I right?!” Shinji smiled patting on Ren’s shoulder.

Ren narrowed his eyes, looking at the hand patting his shoulder. He pulled away. "Don't touch me. We haven't met...you're mistaken." But Ren knew that wasn't true. There was something nagging at him in the back of his mind. The two had definitely met somewhere. An unpleasant feeling rose to Ren's stomach.

Shinji looked at the boy that was in front of him “Well,  maybe I’ve mistaken you for someone else, I’m a reporter so I usually met a lot of people… things like this may happen!” he smiled a bit nervous “but you really remind me of someone… can I ask what’s your name?”

Ren narrowed his eyes. A reporter...? "My name is Akiyama Ren." He answered.

"...Have we met before...?"

“No but it is good that you have told me. I am here on an alienizer case but I will tell the proper authorities of this information.”

Ren tilted his head. "A...alienizer...?"

“Yes. Have you seen anything suspicious in the area?” Tetsu was investigating a case.

Ren raised an eyebrow. "The criminal Asakura Takeshi is at large once more, there's been a warning sent out that he may be around this area at the moment...is that what you're here about?"

“When we were engaging the Aries Zodiart, Fourze was murdered by the other rider, Meteor, who had made a deal with Aries in exchange for the life of a comatose friend. He was clinically dead for over thirty minutes, which should have also meant brain death. However, our friendship with Fourze reached into the afterlife to bring him back.”

Tomoko pauses to let that sink in.

“And the thing is, Fourze truly believes in friendship. His first action upon returning to life was to rescue Meteor from Aries because he had finally seen Meteor’s true personality. He saved him, defeated Aries and befriended Meteor all over again.”

Murdering another for the sake of a comatose friend....the situation was all too familiar. Ren's hands shook slightly as he listened to Tomoko's words. "Fourze...sounds like a fool with a heart of gold." He sighed and blinked a few times to stop himself from the tears threatening to pour out. "...Reminds me of someone I know."

"...Are you another one of those Gokaiger people?" Ren looked at the other man up and down, finding his outfit quite..unique.

“I think I’ll have to try that next time!” Nodding, she had to snicker to herself. “I almost didn’t come at all, though. I heard from a colleague that some really energetic guy with long hair spilled tea all over her the first time she came…”

Ren let out a heaving sigh. "That's Kido Shinji...another part-time worker here. He's extremely clumsy." He furrowed his brow. "I hope that experience didn't cause your colleague to not return here...we're not all like Kido."

Scratching the final bits of clotted blood from his temple, he looked over to the other man, obvious confusion and irritation.  ”So?  I’m like no one, old man, you’re probably delusional.”  Though he couldn’t deny the other had an air of expertise to him.  Perhaps he had been apart of the business himself.

Sniffing, he looked around, making sure no one was paying attention or in earshot distance.  ”Family business.  People owe money, I come to collect.  Grunt work, but I’m the best worker, so says my father.”  Leaning back against the wall, he took a long drag of his own cigarette, breathing out caustic air.  ”You got work?  Dad always says he could use some more hands.  Pays well, though it’s strict.”

Ren laughed, puffs of smoke leaving his mouth as he did so. "Old man? It'll be plenty of more years before I'm old enough to be called that, kid." He gave Genji a slight smirk and took another drag. He listened as Genji spoke in a hushed tone, and then turned to him. "I have a part-time job at a cafe...but I only work there a few hours a week. I haven't been very good at keeping jobs..." He put out the cigarette on the cement. "...Is that alright?"

“Oh! That explains it. I’m pretty good at remembering names and faces, so I didn’t think I’d forget one already!” Smiling into her next sip, she was pleased to not be chided for interrupting his work or anything of the sort. It wasn’t exactly rush hour in terms of customers, after all. With a guilty little grin, she nodded. “I usually frequent Cafe Mald’amour, but…the tea is better here. Since I always feel the need to put a bunch of sugary stuff in my coffee, I’m trying to cut down on calories…and that brings me here instead!”

Ren smiled softly and nodded. "We take pride in our wide selection of teas...I prefer the first flush Darjeeling, myself."

“You’ll get no argument here. However, that strangeness keeps him interesting. And the fact that you encountered him means he probably tried to befriend you. You might not see friendship as useful, but that friendship brought him back from the dead. It also helped all of the people in his Club evolve, myself included.”

"Back...from the dead...?" Ren asked in bewilderment. His mind instantly brought to him the image of Eri, comatose in her hospital bed. Was friendship really something capable of achieving such a feat? His mouth suddenly felt dry. "H-How...?"

“Takiya Genji.”  He answered curtly.  The blood on his face was clotting in a dirty brown grit that itched as he rubbed the heel of his hand on it.  ”Can I help you with anything, or are you just making small talk?  I still have a bit of work to do…”  Who was next on the list?  He hated being the one to take care of lowlife jobs, but they were just as important as the big jobs he sat in for with his father.

Ren took a seat beside the younger man and pulled out a pack of cigarettes, slipping one into his mouth and lighting it. "I just couldn't help but notice that..." he took a long drag, "...you're alot like me. I can just tell." He let the smoke ease out of his lips as he spoke. "What kind of work are we talking about?"
