"Oh it totally is. You just don't appreciate my humour."
"That’s cause you can trust me,” the young female spoke up anew, granting him a smile ere she grabbed a pear and slice it in half, "And if anyone’s gonna stab anyone it’s me. Stabbing your ego." The brunette pushed both the knife and cutting board in front of him, taking a step closer. "I’m gonna need you to cut this about one centimeter thick, horizontally, like this," she ordered, demonstrating it once before she extended the knife to him, raising a brow in a challenging manner, "That should be easy enough for you, hm?"
" Wait-- I am going to cut this? Do you honestly want me to fuck up your dinner, because that's what going to happen if you let me handle this.", Ashton took the knife and cutting board to place them down the counter. "I thought you were going to show me and not make me do the cooking. Ps. Don't treat me like an Idiot, the stabbing thing was not a joke."
"Look, I’m far from being a stay at home wifey but I did up my housewife skills in terms of cooking so Matthew wouldn’t smother me with McDonalds or the like. And also ‘cause my brother’s a health freak and swears on self-made stuff. So don’t you dare compare my food to Matt’s. That’s an insult,” Allie teased, grinning at him from over her shoulder and pointing behind the male, “Go grab a chopping board and a knife, will you?”
Ashton grabbed the nearest knife and board, handing them to the brunette. He glanced towards her shooting a the female a slight smirk. "Maybe I'll just stab you if it tastes like the stuff the idiot would cook. Have you ever tasted what he cooked. I would not wish this to my worst enemy." He shook his head. ".. but fine. If you say so, I will trust you."
"This is going to work. I’m a great cook and I just so happen to be a fabulous teacher as well. Once you’ve had my food, you’re not even gonna want that takeout anymore.”
" Well. Great, then I guess I'll just be excited and impatient for you to show me that great talent, hopefully it won't taste anything that Matt would cook because I do hope you won't make me go through something like that", he laughed slightly, leaning himself on the counter.
"You know this is never going to work right? I prefer ordered pizza and take out instead of cooking."
YOU MADE THE WRONG CHOICE
His glance was on the road, the radio playing some old song that he could not recognize but his thoughts were far off to even begin to remember. Was it a good idea? Driving to the girl he knew he started to develop feelings for at three a.m in the morning, knowing that her boyfriend and his best friend were out of town due to some camping trip with his rehab group? Probably not but still he was in his car and Allison Carter did not leave his mind. A short silent humourless laugh left his lips when he thought of his best friend. Matthew had changed after he stopped sharing their hobby to do drugs and sell them and that wasn‘t necessarily a bad thing but leaving off to a camping trip with his rehab group was probably one of those things that Ashton made fun of. Matt was not in fifth grade and him being clean doesn‘t mean he had to stop hanging out with his old friends. For a while he only heard the guitar solo that was ringing through his boxes, before reminding him that he was only looking for excuses to develope a certain dislike towards Matthew although that was not possible. Ashton was in love with Allie, no. This shocked him more than it could anyone else probably, Ashton rarely loved someone, he fucked and got blowjobs instead of wasting his time with feelings and crushes but with Allie it was different. He couldn‘t stop thinking of her, couldn‘t stop letting his thoughts wander to her doe eyed gaze and her bold sarcasm-- When he saw the familiar building Ashton got out of his vehicle, walking to the door with quick steps and ringing the doorbell. The dealer knocked a few times, getting the sight of a very sleepy Allison. It wasn‘t too late to turn around and leave yet he didn‘t move nor flinch perhaps he knew deep down inside that this was bound to happen, that going after his best friends girl, fiance, was the worst thing he could do yet didn‘t stop. „No I don‘t want to buy your weed, goodnight“, Ashton laughed quietly holding open the door that Allison was about to close. „I am guessing you did not get your beauty sleep.“, he stepped into the dark apartment and lit the lamp to throw himself on the couch. „Excuse me? Fuck off. What do you want here, anyway? Matthew is out of town, didn‘t he tell you?“ Allison sat next to him, pulling her legs to herself and shooting him a tired slightly pissed off look, a look that Ashton had seen several times before, like when Matthew and him knocked over a beer bottle while they were gaming on the playstation caught in enthusiasm and excitement. Yet he still found it adoring-- he really needed to stop. „I came to talk to you actually“ „What do you want?“ „... can‘t a friend just ask how you‘re doing? And how your day has been---“ Ashton was interrupted by the brunette. „Ashton.“ The male cleared his throat, turning his gaze away from her. It was now or never, he wouldn‘t get the chance to do this anytime soon anew and the dealer was aware that the decision to not say anything about it in the first place had been already answered. „Hey.. is everything alright? What‘s wrong? Did something happen?“, her voice was concerned now and Ashton looked at her to memorize her features because after this moment the man knew it would never be the same again. „ Allison I love you.“ The female chuckled softly. „I love you too, Ash but you need to go home.“ Ashton shook his head. „No you don‘t understand. I-- I love you. I‘m in love with you.“ The moment he had spoken out the words Ashton regret saying them, probably because he knew that a rejection would follow. A break of connection with his best friend and the loss of another friend whom he had given his heart to. It really would never be the same.
“I’ve told them that I’m bringing a friend of mine that needs help with her studies,” Colin retorted, giving her a quick glance out of the corner of his eye, ere he nodded lightly, “I have thought this through, Phoebe. Quit worrying already. It’s just for the weekend.” The young man pulled off the road and into the one that would lead them straight into the small town that he had spent his childhood in. “We’re almost there,” he announced, running his tongue past his lower lips, “Just a couple more minutes.”
Phoebe sighed, trying to shake of the anxiousness she felt and she tried to hold onto the confidence she had left. "Fine--- okay. Fine, I am not going to worry but next time you plan on throwing me into the cold water. Don't." She looked up giving him a slight smirk. "..because I will make you regret it. I am pretty good at making people regret things."

“I wasn’t entirely sure you’d agree straight away if you would have known beforehand. Luring you into the car and then telling you is sparing me a lot of trouble.” Colin grinned mildly, ere he shrugged. “Well, it never really came up but I’ll gladly give you a quick briefing: my mom got pregnant pretty early with my older sister, whose name is Amelia; she’s 31 now and Madison’s currently 15. My mom’s name is Ella and my dad’s name is John. They have a pretty handsome son, if I may say so myself and my mom’s a terrific cook and the second you even so much as look hungry she’ll probably offer to make you something, so if you leave with five pounds more than you came that is gonna be her fault, not mine.” The young man gazed into her direction for a moment, giving her an encouraging smile. “And most importantly: they’re gonna like you. — anything else you want to know?”
She smiled slightly, a quiet sigh passing her lips. "I'd like to disagree with the handsome son part simply because it's not true", Phoebe looked out of the window, the excitement she felt had vanished and the reassuring that Colin's family would really like her did not convince her at all. "There is something I'd like to know though, do you already have in mind what you're going to tell them about.. us? Because I really don't think telling them I'm your student that you dated and broke up with will cut it." Chocolate hues shifted back to him, the female raised her brows. ".. please tell me you thought this through."
„Nice job, Victoria. The chicken tastes great“ Duncan‘s piercing blue eyes were directed to the woman in front of him, his mother whom looked just as unaffected by Duncan‘s words as Duncan himself. The rather with irony filled words were not meant serious. Of course, they weren‘t. Victoria Carter would rather starve than make dinner herself. Duncan knew that. The male leaned back slightly, eyeing her and raising his brow mockingly. „I mean-- not that you made it yourself but I am sure it took you some effort to tell the cook what you would like him to do.“ Victoria merely rolled her eyes and took her wine glass to take a sip out of it. „Duncan, show some respect.“ Dan‘s words cut through the tension and in the corner of his eyes he saw Allison flinch. „Oh you mean the kind of respect, she showed her personal trainer some years ago?“-- „Duncan!“ Duncan chuckled, he seemed to be on a roll today. Provoking and letting loose, perhaps it was because he already had a few drinks or maybe he was just angry. Duncan would care about it later, or not. „Okay-- you know what? I am going to do you all a favor and get the hell out of here.“, he was about to get up when Dan shook his head. „No. You‘re going to stay here. We‘re a family and we‘re having dinner.“ Another chuckle passed his lips when he turned to Dan now, his laugh lacked amusement or any humor at all for that matter . A family? God knows what the Carter‘s were but they were not a family, not a happy functioning one at least. „Are you kidding me, Dan? A family? What we are is a mess and I don‘t mean Al with this because she is the most pure out of everyone of us but no. We‘re not a family. We are pretending to be one and you out of all of us are the reason it‘s not fucking working.“ Duncan‘s calm amused facial expression faded completely, clear anger visible. „Not this again.“, it was Dan‘s turn to smile now, his smug confident smile that made Duncan run away in fear when he was younger. Now it was just angering him to the point where he wanted to get up and punch him. „I gave you all you could ask for. Paid for your car, your college. I was a good father.“, he explained further, drinking his scotch with raised eyebrows. „No, dad. You were not a good father. You thought you were one, until I stopped doing what you want me to do. Because you like to manipulate people, make them think things that they don‘t want to think in the first place. You turn and twist everything around until it fits to your expectations. You are the goddamn reason why this family is going down the drain.“ Duncan was not finished but he had gotten up now, slamming his fist down on the table. „You manipulated my mother, me. And now you‘re doing it to Allie. Fuck, aren‘t you ashamed of walking around and making everyone feel worthless?“ He pointed to his sister. „She is young, Dan. She just wants to live life to the fullest but you‘re using and pestering her for your clients sons. She is your daughter, Daniel. Not a prostitute.“ Duncan hadn‘t realized that his voice turned into a raised yelling, teeth gritting. His eyes wandered back to Victoria. „You had the chance to change all of this, to leave him and yet you decided to stay.“ Duncan shook his head slightly. „ It‘s not that easy, Duncan Stone. You know that.“ For the first time since they had sat down the woman with the same blue eyes as his sons started to speak up and Duncan knew that she was right but that didn‘t stop his anger. It was not his fault that the female married a man whose heart seemed to be like his middle name. Perhaps that‘s why they had chosen it. Duncan stared at his mother for a while, the silence around the room spreading. The only noises coming from Dan who seemed to enjoy his dinner, not affected by the outbreak his son just had, it didn‘t surprise Duncan, not in the slightest. He glanced to Allie only to avert them back to his father. „You know the saddest thing about this is not that you just ruined us but that I am starting to be just like you and god dammit. I am more ashamed of that, than I could ever be for anything else. You ruined me too and I tried to resist. So. Hard. I hope my sister will realize that the fuck up that you are shouldn't be a reason to change who she is.“ Duncan swallowed slightly. „Have a nice dinner and if you‘re still hungry you can have my dinner, Daniel. Just warm it up if it‘s too cold but then again you never had problems with being cold, did you?“ The male shook his head and turned out to walk out of the dining room. The loud shut of the door was a sign that he was finally out but he would never really be out for good.
“I can’t do this to you? Phoebe, I am bringing you home to my parents,” Colin stated, furrowing his brows. This wasn’t entirely the reaction he had expected. She seemed seriously panicked and the young teacher was a tad thrown off. “You’re not gonna meet Satan. There’s no need to be worried.” Colin sighed, shaking his head. “Phoebe. Relax, okay? My parents have put up with me, my big sister and are currently in the midst of dealing with my younger sister. Whatever you do won’t very much phase them — although you might not wanna talk about sleeping with their son during dinner.” He grinned a bit, ere he got more serious again. “My parents will like you. Don’t worry so much about it. Just be yourself. I feel for it, remember? And I got my genes from those two.”
A nervous hand ran through her hair, trying to calm down. "I-- okay.", the female started chewing on her lip. "God. Sorry for the freak out. I just, you can't put me in a car and deliver these kind of news without warning me first, Colin." Phoebe leaned herself back anew, swallowing slightly, being slightly embarrassed by her anxiety filled behavior and she wanted to continue panicking because being confident around a bunch of drunk teenagers seemed like an easier task than showing up at your ex boyfriends parents house and get tutoring from his father. She should have declined his offer to help her the moment she had the chance to. " You never talked about your family that much before and now I'm supposed to meet them. You really don't fuck around with surprises, do you?"
“Excuse me. I have perfect-sized breasts,” Allie claimed, before biting her lip and laughing lightly, leaning her head against his chest for a moment. “Well, I can’t believe that I’m discussing my chest-size with you, so I’m guessing we’re both astounded at the change of topic. We’re totally changing topic. Like right now." The brunette lifted her head, grinning up towards him. "I’m open to suggestions."
He raised his brows an amused smile playing around his lips. "Oh right-- because you know how good I am with words.", he commented sarcastically keep on holding onto her. "We could go borrow a DVD or we go out and you be my wing-man for the night and help me to get laid again."
“Uh, the whorehouse is a nice thought. Perhaps I should pull this car around and go for that,” he mused aloud, grin on his lips. Colin clicked his tongue, pondering about whether or not he should let Phoebe in on their destination, whilst he turned off from the highway and down another road. “Well, I figured the best solution to get your math skills in shape would be someone who studied the subject, as in an actual math teacher. I happen to know him quite well. He’s an incredibly patient, kind man, who — might I say — explains the subject thoroughly well. I used to seek out his help when I had problems all the time. In case you have biology questions, you can also go ahead and let him help you out with that. — Oh, just a quick and minor side-note: that man also happens to be my father.”
"What?" The question left her mouth quick, mind not processing quick enough to what's going on. He was taking her to his family and Phoebe felt all the panic that she usually cooly played it off right up in this moment. "Father? Colin. No. Please don't make me do this. I can't" The female started to shake her head uncontrollably, strands of hair falling over her face, making her seem even more helpless than she would want to appear. "You're bringing me to your parents? That was the plan all along? I can't meet your parents. Parents don't like me-- never did. Bradford. Take me back, right now."
“Someone cute? Whoever do you mean?”, Allison teased, smirking lightly, ere her grin got a tad more earnest and sincere. “Look, however cute you might be: I do not sleep with friends. And you might or might not qualify as my best friend so you’re especially off limits. Plus — I’m not blonde. And I am so not dying my hair for you.”
"Yeah..", he noted, drawing out the answer suppressing the urge to sigh. "I get it.. sorry. Don't take me so serious." Matthew managed to keep the slight wry grin on his features as he pulled the brunette closer. "And you're right, I simply cannot be attracted to someone who is not blonde and you're definitely not big chested either, right?" He chuckled softly. "Can't believe you just friendzoned me."
“You’ll know soon enough,” Colin declared, taking a look at his watch and grinned mildly. They had been on the road for a while and it wasn’t much further to his parents’ house, “But I’ll gladly listen to your guesses and confirm as well as deny them, if you feel liking getting closer to solving the mystery.” He raised his brows and looked over at her for a moment, before directing his gaze back to the road. “So? I’m listening.”
"You really like torturing me, don't you?", she leaned back averting her eyes to the road in front of her. "Perhaps you're going to take me to the airport, to have a chilling weekend at Hawaii so I can concentrate more on school when I get back? Am i close? Is that it?" Phoebe figured that it was probably not her guess but the thought of it seemed nice. "Or maybe you're going to dump be off at some Whorehouse to make me see what ends up with people that do not do well in their life to scare me? I have no fucking clue, Colin. I don't know what happens in that messed up brain of yours." A small grin curves around her lips. "Tell mee."
