"after a long spiritual journey filled with soul searching and self-discovery, iâve decided i donât particularly feel like drawing a dick." No pressure, just genuine curiosity: any thoughts on an akuvipositor, a gastropodic akuverted sex organ, etc?
all right gang our topic of the day is
⨠Aku's junk đ â¨
happy 25th anniversary to samurai jack.
"any thoughts" could mean a lot of things so let's get the boring thoughts out of the way first.
do you feel like drawing aku with alternative dick options? lmao no.
drawing aside, are you personally interested in giving him nonhuman junk configurations, for sexy reasons.
ehh. when it comes to inhuman junk, i'm game to give characters based on other species their species-appropriate junk for worldbuilding/logic reasons. and in the right smut context i can get into a set of hemipenes or an ovipositor.
but i don't really wanna see hemipenes off of a reptilian/serpentine character, and aku doesn't strike me as an ovipositing kind of guy.
and beyond that, i don't see aku as a furry/anthro type character. when people try to make him oneâgiving him paws or fur or "what if he purred" etc.âit just feels wrong. like it's detracting from his akuness. to me aku's not a critter, he's some kind of fucked up dryad or ent. so putting an animal dick on him feels like gluing a werewolf dildo on the trunk of a tree. that's not supposed to go there.
do you think canon (except that he wants genitals for whatever reason) aku would give himself one of the aforementioned options?
okay so here's the thing about Aku. he's a shapeshifter, right. we've seen him be a whole bunch of different creatures. he can look like anything, be anything.
but of all the available options, 95% of the time he looks basically human.
when we look at him we focus on the things that make him inhumanâthe antlers, the nose, the tusks. because we're starting with "human" as the default assumption, and therefore we see aku as a character design that moved away from humanityâand if he's moving away from humanity then he must be moving toward something else, right? animals, maybe?
but "human" is not the default for aku. for aku, the default is a tar pit that spits out dead trees when things fall in it. his body isn't "human that moved toward monstrosity"; it's "monster tree that moved toward humanity."
and those few cosmetic differences disguise the fact that he really is very human! like, Aku's only nonhuman in a "1960s Star Trek makeup" way.
so like if a character were moving away from humanity and toward some sort of creature, an ovipositor or a gastropodick would be as reasonable a choice as any. But looked at from his perspective: if he's traveled a path from "tar/tree" to "human," where would bug bits enter the picture?
and it's noteworthy that aku never seems to mix & match body parts in the show. he never becomes "Aku, but with wings, like a creepy angel"; he becomes a dragon or a fucked up bird-bat thing. He never becomes "Aku, but with an arm turned into a scorpion tail"; he becomes a scorpion. He never becomes "mermaid Aku"; he becomes a school of fish. whatever form he's taking, he takes it 100%, not 20% or 5%. even when he transforms from "aku (normal version)" to "aku (but with legs this time)," the way it's animated makes it seem like he's treating it as a full body transformation into a new form, not a 50% waist-down transformation.
so like... if he plans to do the penetrating, and he's fucking somebody as a wasp? he'll use an ovipositor. if he's fucking as a slug? you get weird slug bits. if he's a dragon then there's double dragon dicks. etc.
but if he's fucking as Normal (humanoid) Aku, you're probably gonna get a stylized akutized human dick.
POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES I'M WILLING TO ACCEPT AS REASONABLY JUSTIFIABLE GIVEN CANON INFORMATION:
tentacle hentai. though honestly i don't really see him using tentacles in sex for penetration. i see him using tentacles in sex for bondage.
i think aku's so human because right before he was born the Pit of Hate consumed a bunch of samurai..... and the samurai's horses. so like, i really have no grounds to protest interpreting him with a horse dick. he already has horse teeth.
I've said he's a tree, it would only make sense for him to have tree genitalia. perhaps this takes the form of a flower. perhaps it takes the form of him jerking off his stamen over a partner and then leaving without actually touching them and they spend the rest of the day sneezing from evil pollen. and then an evil tree grows in their lungs. hey wouldn't it be fucked up if this is what was happening to jack in Aku Infection
Ah! Oki, sorry! It was not meant to be mean or anything, just wanted to say something to that specific post and did not follow the whole thingy! I understand now uwu
do y'all wanna see an akussy? because I was possessed by a burning need to design an akussy accurate to the show's overall art style. I wanted that akussy to look CANON.
"why's aku got an akussy?" you may ask. because he's a shapeshifter and i wanted to draw it, that's why.
it's below the read more for obvious reasons.
posing like the centerfold model in Resting Bitch Face Monthly
okay i said "accurate to the art style" which means I had a list of goals and rules:
simplified and stylized to hell and back. a few long swoopy curves and pointy points and NOTHING ELSE.
only four colors allowed. red green white black done.
all body hair is FLAMES.
aside from FLAMES, red is ONLY used to outline the borders of mucous membranes.
(and the borders of teeth, but it would seem the Deliverer of Darkness has not seen fit to outfit his akussy with those. this time.)
solid black for The Abyss inside a mucous membrane.
white is used within green-skinned areas to help define/outline additional physical features.
green is used for the overall skin but (unlike red) there isn't a strict anatomical border delineating where the green skin ends and black skin begins. it's vibes-based. green defines the minimal space of aku's face and the minimal space of the... akulva??? sure we'll go with that
aku's face is built on hidden hearts (nose, eye sockets). so too is the akussy.
now clap and cheer for me and the unnecessary effort i put into this. that's vector line art my friends.
"are you gonna do a similar one with a dick?" you ask.
after a long spiritual journey filled with soul searching and self-discovery, i've decided i don't particularly feel like drawing a dick.
also i can't think of a good portmanteau between "aku" and a dick euphemism so what would even be the point. if anyone can think of a clever portmanteau, i'll draw it then.

@hauntedpersonguy don't want to derail The Thread but i need you to know aku's sword kink⢠is my bread and butter.
masochist aku who is transfixed by the sword and doesn't understand why. masochist aku who finds himself wondering what the killing blow would feel like, not in a suicidal ideation way, in a very horny purely sensory way. masochist aku whose fantasies drift to all the times that blade has sliced him, and exactly how it felt, and what if the samurai did it again but this way, or aku was in that position, would it feel different, etc etc etc. and of course it's not just the sword, it's specifically how jack wields it, his Style. the callouses on his hands, the shoulder pain he learns to tune out. one time (alone in his lair on a friday night) aku's casually watching his evil window of world-viewing and catches jack practicing his sword art. forget catching the samurai jerkin it, this is what does it for aku. the silvery, supernatural sheen of the blade. the Sound of it. when i say the mere recollection of it would make aku crosseyed!!!!! and this newfound desire only makes aku more terrifying in a fight!!!!!! the ecstatic sensation of changing shape at lightning speed, becoming ten thousand spears, becoming a flame, and Knowing he's being matched strike for strike by his one true partner in the blood-dance <333 dreamy sigh
aku in season 1 episode 3: we will meet in a time and place of my choosing!!! hoohooheehee and thennnn you will seee samurai!!!!!!!! >8}
aku, later: ,,,,im gonna be the most beautifulest gorgeous woman,,, 6'5,, skin the colour of new leaves,, lips redder than pomegranate seeds,,, figure of a goddess,, and we'll ride through the desert saving each other from danger and snuggling by the campfire while the crescent moon smiles upon us,,, and i'll say things like 'not the grateful kind, are you?~' and 'the night isn't for riding~' in a soft sultry voice but with a little edge to it like i've got a mysterious dark past,,,,, and the samurai will say oh! ikra! you are so tormented yet so brave about it! and he'll clasp me to his chest and murmur 羜寞ăŤĺŽă with a fierce yet noble intensity,,, and then,,, we'll kiss,,,,
every day i think about ikra and wonder WHY he's a woman. like clearly aku fucking Knew What He Was Doing. he knew being a hot sexy aloof woman would work better in getting jack's trust so like. how far was he willing to take it. would he let jack go down on him should jack have felt that way about her. what's fascinating about ikra is that she PROVES aku knows how to act human. to have empathy and care for things, hell she even has a fondness for animals?? in the way she talks about the desert mice and calls the uklahs adorable, we see she has compassion, we even know this about how she literally copied jack's father's history with aku to gain his sympathy, because he KNEW what he did was fucked up and deeply effected jack. what's even more fascinating is that, every single night, he had the opportunity to kill jack. every night when jack went to sleep, he could have killed him, but he didn't. we know from the very moment she shows up that she's aku, it's made so obvious, but there is never a single moment i feel like ikra isn't being genuine with jack, where she's lying to him or being dishonest. there's never any scenes where we see a shady look on her face, or she speaks with any malice. it isn't until they find the jewel and the guardian exposes ikra that aku finally lets the act drop. and that is why this episode is so fucking interesting
That is not really what this was going for and more like based on why Aku choose to turn into a Woman/Ikra so its.. kinda off topic?
(I've seen "big thread" but that is not what I want to focus on)
I really did not expect Ikra to be Aku. I was hoping for it (because it would be some cool form of gender represantation), but I was very much telling myself that this couldn't be it. WHY would it be it. Not just that I did not expect the show to do this but it seemed so unbelievable, so unexpected to be Aku. Especially since it is an very early episode of viewers needing to get familiar with his character, which parallels very well with Jack's freshly new arrival in the future.
Jack would not expect Aku to become a Woman.
The way people think gendered is a big thing I believe Aku took advantage off in this setting. Him being a Shapeshifter already is a concept to wrap ones head around, the possibility to change ones gender (or Sex specifically here) is uncomprehensable to people (at least in that setting, I am focusing on JACK here mostly.)
Of course Aku's behaviour as Ikra was WAY different and very interesting and I absolutely love that it proofs that Aku knows exactly how to be "human" or Nice and he simply chooses not to be (or more likely, can only bring himself to this as a form of acting)
But I imagine Aku having become Ikra, having become a woman, as a strategic tool of deception for Jack. Knowing damn well that Jack would not assume it was him. His acting wasn't enough to make sure Jack wouldn't get it, he had to go full on immediatly and make it the hardest way possible for Jack to even assume it was him. Hence, he choose the most perfect disguise for someone who isn't familiar with how much he can even change form.
I did not expect Aku to be so clever and threatening enough to go this way. Go hard, Queen ig. I expected him to be more.. silly.. (which he later in the show becomes but he will always be threatening,, gosh that CHARACTER DESIGN)
He fooled Jack the same way he fooled me. Lmao
every day i think about ikra and wonder WHY he's a woman. like clearly aku fucking Knew What He Was Doing. he knew being a hot sexy aloof woman would work better in getting jack's trust so like. how far was he willing to take it. would he let jack go down on him should jack have felt that way about her. what's fascinating about ikra is that she PROVES aku knows how to act human. to have empathy and care for things, hell she even has a fondness for animals?? in the way she talks about the desert mice and calls the uklahs adorable, we see she has compassion, we even know this about how she literally copied jack's father's history with aku to gain his sympathy, because he KNEW what he did was fucked up and deeply effected jack. what's even more fascinating is that, every single night, he had the opportunity to kill jack. every night when jack went to sleep, he could have killed him, but he didn't. we know from the very moment she shows up that she's aku, it's made so obvious, but there is never a single moment i feel like ikra isn't being genuine with jack, where she's lying to him or being dishonest. there's never any scenes where we see a shady look on her face, or she speaks with any malice. it isn't until they find the jewel and the guardian exposes ikra that aku finally lets the act drop. and that is why this episode is so fucking interesting
yes!! ikra is one of the top things i use as proof that aku DOES understand humans and how they think and workâand in contrast all the times we see him just threatening or bullying people when manipulatively persuading them to do his bidding would be easier isn't because he DOESN'T KNOW how human psychology works, but rather because he prioritizes tormenting them over efficiency.
EXCEPT for situations like ikra. Where aku never killed jack in his sleep. where he even rescued Jack from quicksand. aku why did you do that. Aku explain. Aku??? my theory is that he just committed to the bit too hard, but like. Aku you didn't have to do all that.
and the fact that this is Aku's FIRST meeting with jack in the future is insane
EXACTLY EXACTLY!! I genuinely believe Aku has this deep seated fascination and obsession with Jack, not even just because of his sword but because of his capability and mutual obsession with Aku. We see Aku study him, we see him go to every length to try and best Jack, from designing the perfect robot assassins to literally infecting his body with himself to personally trying to take him down to LITERALLY HAVING HIS OWN KIDS JUST TO DEFEAT JACK!!
And then what happens? Jack loses the fucking sword. And suddenly Akuâs bored. He misses Jack. He misses that connection to someone, even if itâs mutual hatred and obsession, he misses having someone to make his immortal life interesting, to threaten to make it mortal. He misses it so much he has therapy with a copy of himself trying to work out just WHY heâs so depressed when his greatest threat is no longer a threat to him. Jack can survive without Aku but Aku canât live without Jack
man... "he misses jack" is not a read of the show i take as canon compatible but like, it's SO interesting to contemplate anyway. I've absolutely got a couple Fic Ideas I'll Never Write where Aku's season 5 malaise is caused by missing Jack. It's a VERY juicy concept.
because like, ur so right!! He IS utterly obsessed with Jack and the obsession IS mutual. We've got scenes of Aku just sitting there, WATCHING jack walk aroundâwho knows how long he does that, hours on end? days?? Does he watch him sleep??? (i have a headcanon that the reason he apparently doesn't know jack lost his sword until Scaramouche tells him is because after destroying the last portal, his "therapist" went "bro you've gotta quit hate-watching jack it's wrecking ur mental health, just wait for him to die.") And it goes both ways! im always thinking about that bit in the ep where jack almost freezes to death mountain-climbing where he's revitalized by the memory of his family and kingdom and aku's destruction of it, and when he gets to the top of the mountain, what is it he shouts? what's on his mind? is it his beloved family for whom he fights? does he go "FATHER, I PROMISE I'LL BEAT AKU AND COME HOME"? no, he goes "AKU I SWEAR I'M COMING TO KICK YOUR ASS." he's motivated more powerfully by his desire to destroy aku than his desire to save his family/kingdom/world.
(have you read the idw SJ comics? if you haven't i have a couple pages i need to post in here because u gotta see them, PEAK aku-obsessing-over-jack.)
i just see that obsession, in strictly canon-canon, not as something that fuels aku, but something that poisons him. it's corroding him, eating away at his spirit, and fifty years of that has reduced him to a depressed lump who'd rather just bedrot than run his empire. with jack it can go either way, sometimes his hatred of aku DOES empower him. but it isn't empowering aku; he has to expend his inner energy to meet this challenge, and he's run out.
I think that Aku does honestly tell us exactly why he's depressed: not because Jack is gone, but because Jack WON'T go away and aku thinks he never will. If all we had was his therapy session to go on, I'd call "he's lying to himself, he misses jack" a canon-compliant read of aku's motivesâlike not the one the creators were going for but still not one the show contradicts, similar to the "maybe he wasn't Born Evil, maybe he turned evil because he was treated as evil the moment he was born" theory.
but, there's also the scene where he's told Jack lost his sword. If Aku misses Jack, then why did he never pester or fight or watch Jack again immediately after destroying the last portalâand thus, never learned he'd lost his sword? (Because if he'd already known Jack lost his sword, wouldn't he have gone "uh huh, and?" when Scaramouche shared the news?) If Aku misses Jack, then why's he all grumbly and huffy about being dragged out of bed to get news about Jack, rather than eager to hear it? If Jack losing the sword means Jack's no longer the threat Aku WANTS him to be, then wouldn't Aku be cheerful while he thinks Jack is still out there at full power and devastated when he hears Jack lost the swordârather than the other way around?
So like i think he's telling the truth. not only does he say he's depressed because Jack won't go away (bc mere words can be lies), but he also demonstrates that he's depressed while he thinks Jack is at full strength and overjoyed enough to do a stupid little dance once he thinks Jack's powerless.
but like. i get the appeal of interpreting it otherwise! like I've said I've got AUs based on the idea that aku was missing jack lmao!! it's the batman-and-joker "you complete me" thing. there's romance to the idea of two perfect enemies who would rather keep being perfect enemies than end their battle. (i don't necessarily mean romance as in "fall in love" romance, though it can be; but like, "tales of noble warriors and chivalry and grand battles over lofty ideals" romance. it's about the epic-level drama.)
(i also think aku's canon explanationâhe's depressed bc he can't get rid of jackâis deeply fascinating; the despair of thinking he's being hunted by something that can never, every be stopped, not by every effort aku can possibly think of, not even by natural aging & deathâto the point that all aku feels he can do now is psychologically waste away in his tower dreading the day jack finally catches up to him and aku can no longer run. the WEIGHT of that perceived inevitability. the sword of damocles is hanging over aku's head and he has seen it in the metal. fun to flip-flop between the interpretations, they offer different fascinating things.)
Okay, you got me there. Itâs been a minute since Iâve seen season five so I canât say with th fullest confidence Aku feels that way about Jack exactly as I described it, but the mutual obsession is 100% there. Thereâs this pattern of depression we see in s5 of Akuâs despondence about Jackâs continued existence versus Jackâs despondency over his OWN existence.
The two are, in essence, stuck with each other. Had Jack remained in the future, effectively immortal, everywhere heâd look there would be this never ending reminder of Akuâs victory, while Aku feels hunted by Jackâs mere existence, with or without the sword. Even going off this I still genuinely believe, had Aku successfully killed Jack, heâd get bored eventually. Who wouldnât after decades of having someone constantly on his mind, only for him to die?
Their relationship is such a twisted, intertwined thing they canât realistically hope to escape; either outcome of their war would ensure theyâd never forget about the other
(Also would like to mention I was literally the âthe. WHAT đâ meme when you brought up the comics I did NOT know about those and will now search for them obsessively, ty)
i have an unfair advantage (currently writing a fic with a heavy focus on aku's depression) so like I've been extra focused on studying the scenes that reference it lmao. But YEA and that's a good observation, aku's depression is all about jack ("theres this guy DOING things and it makes me MISERABLE") and jack's depression is all about himself ("the clean-shaven me and the manifestation of death took a vote and they both think I'm a failure who should kill myself and tbh they're making some solid points"). You can read so many parallels and contrasts into their depressions: aku blames his misery on an external problem, jack blames his on an internal problem; aku's miserable because he doesn't want to die, jack's miserable because he doesn't want to live... aku uses his inner voice as a therapist to commiserate with him and validate his feelings while jack uses his inner voice to rip himself to shreds
They really are so tangled together, their whole lives. Same birthday; same father/creator; the only two survivors of a now ancient and forgotten kingdom; the only two people in the world who remember the world before aku's rule. (Plus that one random immortal shaolin monk i guess.) thinking about post-show jack is INSANE because like... how does he go home, REALLY go home, now? He lived twice as long in the future as he did in the past. He was older than his own parents. Now he's 25 again and everyone else thinks he was gone two hours. He brought back one person who UNDERSTANDS and she got temporally retconned out of existence, he doesn't even have a body to prove she existed. He's known aliens and robots and now for the rest of his life it's all earthlings all the time. How does he explain cell phones to people? Does he even try?
by year 9 in the future he'd known aku longer than he knew anybody else in his life, because he left japan when he was 8. Depending on how frequently he encountered Aku and how many years it took til the last portal was destroyed, it's possible he literally saw aku more times than anybody else in his life. It's possible no one else will ever beat that record.
He's always called aku's empire "the future" and his kingdom "the past," is ANYWHERE "the present" for jack?
and if aku had won he woulda been haunted in a totally different way. like, for jack, literally the entire world was akuâeveryone's lives were defined by aku's tyranny, aku's face was everywhere, the very landscape and evolution itself were shaped by akuâaku was as large as a whole world and that world swallowed jack whole; while on the other hand aku HAD a whole world, but over fifty years the size of his world shrank until all that was left was jack. lost his citizens' fear/respect to jack, lost his armies and best warriors to jack, lost his magic artifacts and his hobbies and his passion and even the simple joy of receiving tribute from his oppressed subjects... owns the whole world but he feels like his life's been reduced to jack and jack's sword and jack's threat. even after jack's gone how does he get back to "normal" life after his normal's been ground away for fifty years. aku replaced jack's life but jack carved away aku's life and now all they have left is each other
i think aku at least could recover and maybe even move on eventually but like,, mainly because aku's got an eternity to work at it. plus unlike jack he's already willing to get therapy. ... sorta.
(ohohoo. Fair warning there's two main samurai jack comic lines: there's the cartoon network action pack comics, a bunch of one-off stories which are sometimes entertaining/interesting but mostly pretty badly characterizedâi don't think the writer had a good grasp of the SJ setting or of aku's characterâAnd then there's the IDW comic line, which actually understands samurai jack and has ongoing plotlines. Both are interesting to read at least once but like, don't accidentally read the wrong one and assume that's the whole experience.)
(and as promised here's a VERY interesting page out of the IDW line issue 15 (i thought the dialogue was spread over several pages but it was just one lmao), to me this is PEAK aku-obsessing-over-jack:)
