Exhibition planning ½.
The last week of this(final major project) project was to prepare for the upcoming exhibition at the end of the course year.
A lot of thought has to be put onto the layout of my space. To put it bluntly; it’s not only about what you present, but it’s also about how You present it.
So with that idea in mind, I want to make sure that I’m able to make use of what I’m provided to make my work as unique as possible.
FMP - Animation
Day two of working in Adobe Animate. Still getting used to the program, but I think that I’m going in the right direction.
Got the essential frames for scene one and two.
FMP - ANIMATION
Testing out some interesting ways to create scene transitions.
^^For this one I am working on how to block a background/scene and have the scene change while it is being blocked. I am mainly thinking of having a hand close a door as the blocking object.
I am inspired by Edgar Wright to attempt at these interesting scene transitions, because his transitions have always been very mind-blowing (for the lack a better word).
FMP - EASTER HOLIDAY ROUND UP
Final animatic for part 1 of the animation. Not final sounds however.
FINAL MAJOR PROJECT - EASTER HOLIDAY ROUND-UP
Started working on the FX and other background sounds for the animation
FMP - backgrounds in animation
Working on the backgrounds.
Experimenting with how textures will look with the backgrounds
Schedule for the animation There are several scenes and they will be going through the same process of; storyboard, rough animation, sound/background music addition and then the final animation.
Behind the scenes of the behind the scenes. I'm working on a small BTS video along side the animated short to show the process behind it all.
FMP - Photo-shop experiment 1
Some quick and loose drawings done in Krita (digital drawing app).
By quick, I mean really quick. I was simply experimenting with how to make backgrounds more interesting for my animation.
For the backgrounds I used some patterns I made by hand. The first, was done in ink and bleach, and the second was a watercolour galaxy practice painting.
FMP - Animation research
Gankutsuou - The Count Monte Cristo
I stumbled upon this GIF quite recently, and I was reminded of how beautiful the animation for Gankutsuou anime is.
The first thing that really catches my eye is the use of different patterns on the character’s clothing and hair to create the appearance of texture. I really like this, as the colours are more vibrant and the characters are more exciting to look at.
Restarting the blog.
Two Week Taster - Drawing
Evaluation - Illustration
After the painting outcome, I like this final outcome second-most. The bright colours are very nice to look at, and I think that I was able to find a good balance of colours used. as much as there may be very dominant colours I feel that there is a least one interesting focal area at each of the four corners to keep the piece more of, an artwork to be looked at as a whole rather than just having one focal point. What I’m most proud of is how I found a way to capture a way to visually represent how I feel about music (If it is not clear from the artwork, I was drawing a vintage radio at different angles). The myriad of colours to represent the various feelings a song can make you feel. The alternating colour to represent the idea of alternating genres and their off-beat approach to music. The black and grey looks like a vinyl record.
There are obvious downsides like, it’s not final at all, by a long shot. There were other techniques that I wanted to explore other than watercolour and electric tape, but again the time given for each final outcome doesn’t give me enough time to have thought of that back then.
My favourite areas are where the different technique meet and kinda mix and interchange with each other. It’s something that I would like to explore later with my other work.
Two Week Taster - Drawing
Evaluation - Painting
Out of all the final outcomes I am most happy with the painting outcome. I feel that it is the most complete looking. I'm really happy with how the the water colour blocks look; they're subtlety done enough to not block the whole of the close-up of the face. I like that the face is also very strong, the contrast between its black and white design with the block’s various colours help make each aspect identifiable.
One of the biggest problem with this project (something I that I’ll mention with the other drawing projects) is the time constraints not only by the class time we were given, but also the amount of work that I placed upon myself. I definitely believe that this piece was not as complete as I felt it should be.
I I get more time or if I have more materials I can experiment with I would definitely experiment with a lot more styles and techniques. However the black and white, and bright colours were intentional, therefore I wouldn’t change that aspect but I would change the way I would tackle the task in terms of material.

Artist Research - Mark Demsteader
Manchester born figurative artist. I haven’t found much about his personal life that inspired his style. However it is still very inspiring
Amy XV
The mix of washy paint and photo-realistic details has a lot of impact as the strong details stand out even more. I really like the use of pastel, charcoal and collage to create a watercolour like effect. I really would like to follow his surreal yet photo-realistic approach to portraits.
Two Week Taster - Printing
Artist Research - Joe Fedderson & Stanley William Haytor
Joe Feddersen is a mix media artist, with work extending from paintings to photography.
Shard #2 - 2001
The pieces that I found to be most interesting are the ones that have very colourful and intricate patterns. And with good reason, as it seems that many feel the same way. The Geometric shapes have a lot of impact on the composition, and the colours making a good visual connection to Feddersen’s intention to base his works on his native Maerican heritage. The use of the natural brown and orange really helps.
Stanley William Haytor was an England born surrealist and abstract expressionist painter and printmaker. He is an innovator of his time, even having many famous artists being taken under his wing at his own founded studio, Atelier 17. I was always so interested in how he was so well regarded.
Deliquescence - 1935
His work from 1930′s onwards has taken a massive step into abstract expressionism and into the development of viscosity painting; this is where the artist will put aside their need for structure and consciousness to create a very free and easy flowing art piece. The very fluid lines and various splashes of colour help with this idea.
The reason I researched these two artists are because of their strong relation to printmaking, plus their strong relation to their own style as well. While Feddersen might have fluid and splashy colours but he doesn’t seem to go all the way as Haytor does, and vise-versa. What I want to do in my project for printmaking is to create art pieces that combine and mix these different styles of printmaking to help create interesting compositions and dynamic visual elements.
2 Week Taster - Sculpture
Personal Task - Evaluation
Small and strong.
Reminisent of the classic tales of the underdog. This was the very foundation for this singular project, although with a few twists to keep things interesting. It’s become less about the greater evil, and more about internal issues. The things that makes you feel small.
I am very happy with how the final piece turned out, because a lot of the components worked really well to express the whole meaning of the artwork; from the short height, the small frame and intricate wiring. Though it strayed quite a way from how I want to create a similar conceptual style as Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel, never-the-less it stands on its own four feet with a strong conceptual idea.
One big issue, is that it isn’t a very structurally strong piece; I feel that it could fall over easily, due to it never being balanced enough as to stay still.
There are some very obvious changes, like getting better equipment so that cutting and putting the pieces of wood together would be a lot easier and better at measuring heights create a more balanced 3D structure. Getting better material can drastically change the look of the sculpture, it can get rid of a lot of the roughness that is in my current piece. I would also like to experiment with more conceptual ideas, because there some visual elements that makes the sculpture’s intended theme quite obvious.
