Amos Diggory. He’d describe himself as The Man. The Myth. The Legend. Confident and living his best life. Always the life of the party. Loud, ongoing, unashamed. Or at least that's what he’d have you believe. From the outside people would call Amos cocky, a little overbearing. Underneath all the bravado though, is an eldest son, carrying the weight of his parents expectations. And wrestling those with what he dreams of doing and who he wishes he could be. Someone who doesn’t really believe he is worthy of attention without the act he puts on.
Amos’ small circle of friends know that despite his intense exterior, his heart is always in the right place. Amos always tries to follow the right path even if he gets a little lost along the way. Whilst it might seem that he has high standards for everyone, rest assured his standards for himself are the highest of all. Standards he often fails to reach.
He has not yet let anyone, even his friends, see the full vulnerable Amos. Believing he has to be strong and perfect to protect his younger brother. He gave up his own dream career, to ensure his brother could live a more carefree life. Quidditch was Amos’ main joy in life, flying was the only time he could feel truly weightless. But a career in the ministry was expected, so that dream ended the moment he left Hogwarts.
Amos doesn’t hate his job, well not all of it. His parents were of course disappointed he did not become an auror. He did try, only missing out by a margin of error. But his heart was never in it. Amos did not agree with all the laws around the regulations on animals and creatures, deeming most of them to come out of the fear of the unknown. But at least from inside he could attempt to try and change people’s mindset. Even if it only meant getting to save one or two creatures instead of a whole species.
Amos has not yet fully concerned himself with the war. Perhaps out of willful ignorance, expecting the tensions to pass. That denial however is getting harder to maintain. He has heard of the attacks on muggles, and he can see it in the way that chaos is beginning to brew amongst certain groups of creatures. Amos doesn’t really know what he could do however. He is not an auror or anyone of great magical ability. What could he possibly do to help change anything?
