@data-analyzer
When Thorton seemed to repeat him, Barry couldn’t do anything else but shake his head in agreement to make sure that Thorton was understanding this. He had meant every word that he said. “The tea cups?!” Barry shouted in astonishment. Leave it to the nerds to be the people who didn’t want to do anything fun, exciting and daring. The tea cups were boring…and lame….and —
"That’s so…kid stuff!" Really it was about the only word he could come up with, but he had came p with the pack that they would take turns picking out the rides. "Fine, you’ll pick the little lame things while I pick the exciting things."
"No need to chide me for being childish," Thorton snapped back. "You are the one who has shackled me to your wrist and is dragging me around an amusement park against my will, meaning you are not really one to talk."
Actually, he was kind of embarrassed that Barry called him lame, but he wasn't going to admit that. "I can enjoy your 'exciting things' as much as you can," he growled, stomping off in the direction of the roller coaster. Now he was really acting childish.
[x]
"Nuh uh uh!" Barry scolded at the suggestion. There was no way he was going to let Thorton get out of this so easily. No way. No how. He was gonna have to go through this completely.
"Awwww come on Thor! Me picking all the rides and stuff sin’t going to make this any fun."
He thought for a moment. “Okay! We’ll go to the rollar coaster!” He pointed towards the ride that was already in mid-cycle. “And then you’ll pick the next ride. By the time we get through everything we should have located the key by then.” He flashed a grin.
Thorton sighed. Okay, despite the handcuffs -- which were a ludicrous idea in the first place -- he did actually owe Barry one day of "fun." Which he hoped would actually end up being fun, especially now that he and Barry were disturbingly... inseperable.
He tried to relax a little. Scowling the whole time would just make this whole ordeal even more miserable.
"Ride... everything... eh? 100%?" Thorton glanced where Barry was pointing and promptly wished he hadn't. But he wasn't going to lose face in front of the younger man. He'd never lose face in front of Palmer, either, and this was no different. "Fine. Afterwards, I suppose -- I suppose we can ride the tea cups?" The only reason he was choosing them was because tea reminded him of Caitlin, but otherwise he was just making an arbitrary choice, since he'd have to suffer through everything eventually anyway.
At the question, Barry could only grin and nod his head. “Yup yup yup! You may have promised me Thort, but you weren’t actually following through with them which is a giant no no.”
"This way I’ll no for a fact that you can turn back on it because we’re stuck together!" He let out a laugh at the thought. "It’s just for a day anyways and we’ll have loads of fun!" At the reply, Barry grinned before pulling Thorton off in the direction of the amusement park. He knew there wouldn’t be too many lines since it was well…winter and he had bought these tickets back during the summer.
"So whatda want to do first?"
You were the one who was busy. Probably best not to bring that up, especially considering Barry's tiny attention span. He probably didn't even remember that.
"...Take these off?"
Thorton glowered at him. Obviously that wasn't going to happen, but he was still annoyed about the frivolousness of the whole ordeal. "How about you decide? It is not like I can really refuse anyway."
"No can do buddy!" He waved an index finger on the one free hand he had left. He was actually surprised at how Thorton was taking this so far. "I put the key somewhere at the amusement park since someone never bothered to keep to our little hangout day.”
"This friendship bracelet will let us enjoy each at the amusement park as we look for that key."
"..." The only reason Thorton had been calm before was because he thought it was a joke. Knowing that Barry was serious made him feel the beginnings of his temper bubbling up inside him. Thorton flying off the handle was something that most people hadn't seen, and this time Argenta wasn't around to calm him down.
No, I have to save face even if it kills me. Even if this stupid kid and his stupid smug face remind me exactly of stupid Palmer.
"Barry..." It was all he could do to keep his voice from shaking with thinly contained rage. "I promised you I would accompany you to the amusement park anyway, was this --" he held up his now-trapped wrist -- "really necessary? But I suppose..." He gritted his teeth. "If the key is truly not here, then I do not have much of a choice. Let us... let us go, then."
This was going to be a nightmare.
"Of course you are silly! That’s what bracelets are meant for." He gave a small snicker.
Though hearing he was able to show it made him grin. “Alrighty no peeking though!” He waited for Thorton to close his eyes before putting on the friendship bracelet that was none other than a pair of handcuffs. “Whatcha think?!”
"........................................What."
His normal expression of boredom was quickly replaced with one of utter blank surprise. No. This cannot be happening... please, Arceus, let this be a short-lived silly shenanigan... "You... are joking, correct? Congratulations, you have sufficiently startled me. Now this farce can come to an end?" At least, I sincerely hope so.
"Yo Thort! I never gave ya yer Christmas present!!! Ya just gotta see it. It’s an awesome friendship bracelet!"
"A...friendship bracelet? Am I required to wear it...?"
He tried not to frown but failed slightly. "...Okay, all right. Show me."
I've seen The Book of Life twice and I was listening to this song and suddenly I thought of Caitlin as Maria and Thorton as Manolo and Darach as Joaquin and I'm dying. I'm weak, this is stupid, bye.
[His smile falters and he looks a bit disappointed at the answer, though at the question he couldn’t help but cackle] A list? For a birthday?! [He laughs again] Come on Thort! No one makes wish lists for birthdays! They’re for Christmas!
I mean…I might have a Chirstmas list lying around and what not buuuuuut. You didn’t ask for that. You still owe me that amusement park trip though. These tickets ain’t gonna go to waste!
...I apologize. [He had been going to make a snide remark about how unorganized it was of Barry to not keep lists, but he figured he was in the wrong, so he probably ought to keep it to himself.]
Okay, then I would like to see whatever list you have. I shall... attempt to make up my folly over the holidays. In the meantime, we can go to that amusement park, if you so wish. Whenever is best for you, I will make time in my schedule.
Thanks a lot Thort!!! Sooooo…. [he stares at him expectantly] Did ya get me somethin’? Did ya? Did ya? [he gives a little bit of jumps]
...No, I did not.
[A sigh.] Sorry, I am lousy at coming up with appropriate gifts for others. Do you have a wishlist of sorts? Perhaps I could take a request. ...Within reason.
Beauty and the Geek || Lucy and Nejiki
“There is no one who could run this institution better then I…This school often require a special set of skills and dedication few have…I have sacrificed everything because of that dedication including my fiancée…One day just ran off after she told me this school took too much time away from her…So while my actions are sometimes questionable…They are always in the best interest of the school. So please take that into consideration…If you ever think I may not deserve my position due a disregard of certain rules…It is that same disregard that has saved this school more than once…This school and my research are all that I have….left.”
“I do understand you sentiment about having peace to do my research…It is one of my few joys in life….What exactly are you working on?” She finished off her drink relatively quickly, and poured herself another.
Lucy shook her head, and waved her hand. “Thank you for the offer….I am an old snake…I can only shed my skin…I am quite ok with my way off life…I believe our society has become too dependent on technology….I would rather live my life without certain luxurious and be autonomous…then depend on a machine to do the thinking for me…”
Carelessly Lucy took out a cigarette, and lit it. I gather information about every single one on this campus….It often consumes my time…But it is well worth it and helps me run this campus….There is absolutely nothing that happens on this campus that I am not aware of. That is also an important thing to keep in mind…So I am more than happy to learn about one of my promising professors an ear…”
“Yes…it says right here you are in the science department…” Lucy took her drag of her cigarette and smiled. “As a former Frontier Brain I am also into such statistics…However I do my calculations long hand or with a calculator…So it seems we have something quite spectacular in common…” She took a swig of her drink.”
“Not at all…your description is absolutely enthralling…I am impressed by your prowess….You are quite the impressive man..There isno need to be self-deprecating or doubt your abilities…Those who do not find you interesting are the problem not you…It is hard to impress me…and you have.” When Nejiki mentioned that what inhibited him was of no consequence she cocked her head to the side… “No it is of consequence…Anything that hurts or upsets my staff hurts and upsets me….If there is anything within my power to cure whatever ails you…Feel free to ask and I will accomplish it…” She snuffed out her cigarette. “Do not worry if you bore me….You have not yet..”
Lucy was an odd snake that was for sure. Certain rules she had an absolute disregard for. Such as smoking and drinking of the premise. In turn her dedication was unparalleled. The question every staff member and student had to ask themselves; were her sacrifices worth more than her sins?
So she wanted to hear about the specifics of his data analyzing machine. "My data analyzer uses a complex series of algorithms to predict the outcomes of Pokemon battles. The more information is inputted, the more accurate the results become. For example, perhaps I was looking to determine whether my Skarmory or my Electivire would win. There are many factors to consider when comparing to Pokemon to one another. What are their base stats, what are their natures? What are their potential movesets, potential held items and their effects? With each move in the battle, what is the likelihood the attack will miss? And so on, and so forth. The less information I input, the longer the machine takes to run its calculations. But if I were to input specific moves, levels, natures, items, and other factors into the machine, it narrows the parameters of the battle. Some might say that looking at Pokemon battles in this highly calculated way takes away the thrill of battle, but I believe it to be just the opposite. To me, contained in every turn in a Pokemon battle is a plethora of statistical probabilities. Even knowing those, a Pokemon battle will still never be wholly predictable, and that is what makes them fascinating and worthwhile. To me, anyway."
Thorton had to force himself not to cough at the smoke. Though such a blatant disregard of the campus rules bothered him, he found himself caring less than he normally would about such things. This woman, though definitely bizarre in her own right and with an underlying power rippling beneath the surface, was a force to be reckoned with. But not necessarily in a bad way.
Rather than answering her question right away, he listened to her talk about her immense dedication for the university, how it had even ended a past relationship. Though he admired it, the way in which she so coolly talked about her passion made him a bit taken aback. And that was coming from someone who considered himself a workaholic.
"Your dedication is clearly unrivaled," he replied with slight hesitation, "but do you ever... regret those choices? Clearly, you do not appear to be someone who doubts your own decisions, which is an admirable quality. But..." Thorton struggled to find a way to articulate his own problems without making himself seem weak. "Something you said hit a bit close to home... about work getting in the way of a relationship. Countless times I have convinced myself that I can live just fine without her, and yet even immersed in my work I still suffer from listlessness, a lack of verve and passion in anything that I do... dare I even say, loneliness. I just wonder... how it is even possible to cope with such a thing. Perhaps you are just a fundamentally stronger person than I am, which I would not doubt."
