Ironically, Sheamusâ car sped down that same road, roaring past the infected man as well as Alissons car, sirens screaming the entire time as he picked up the pace, reports coming in that the rioters were getting more and more restless and violent. He thought he heard the dispatcher say that they were actually killing the crows, squirrels and other small animals they could get their hands on, and, more disturbingly, he thought he heard them say they were eating them. The Deputy shuddered at the thought. There really were some messed up people in the world, werenât there?
When he arrived to Main Street, the scene was utter chaos. Officers were directing civilians away from the turmoil, telling them to get in their cars and leave, and if they couldnât to get inside and stay there.
âSheamus!â A male voice called out; a dark haired, heavy set man waved him over. It was his friend from the academy, Charles Burke. The two grew close over the course of their training and did the best he could to distract his friend from his troubles.
âCharlie, what the fuck is going on? The dispatcher said they were EATING animals!â Sheamus called out as he hurried over to his friend.
âSheamus, my boy, you have no fucking idea.â He said grimly. Off in the distance, they could see plumes of smoke from tear gas bombs meant to disorient the crowds. âTear gas isnât doing a damn thing. Not a god damned fucking thing.â
âSeriously? What are they, on some sort of drug?â He asked, looking out at the crowd of rioters, beating their fists angrily on the hard, fiberglass shields of the Riot Police.Â
âWho knows. Right now, weâre getting people out of here. Give me a hand, would you?âÂ
âRight!â Sheamus nodded as they rushed over to help the evacuated citizens, directing them to take the country roads and keep driving, to stay out of the city until further notice. Just as Sheamus helped an elderly woman into her car, watching her drive off, he heard something that made his blood run cold; a bloodcurdling human scream. He whirled around, looking to see a man grabbed by the hands of the rioting crowd, screaming as he was dragged into the fray andâŠ..torn apart by the crowd.
âSheamus! Do you see that?!â Burke yelled. He only nodded as the officers opened fire on the bloodthirsty crowd, foolishly letting their guard drop.
