“When you kill a king, you don’t stab him in the dark. You kill him where the entire court can watch him die.”

Gangs of New York
If it weren’t for the deathly desire to know what was happening in Brooklyn or to hear the conversation between the two bosses, this party would have been one of the best Phoebe had even been at. The music, the current company, the place of the event, it was gloriously done. Smiling at the words the METS player was whispering into her ear, Phoebe checked her phone to see if Oliver sent her a message. Relieved to see that among many others there was one of his, Phoebe stopped listening and focused at the message only to read something she didn’t really expect. Victoria Lucchase was in Brooklyn, trying to make him not enter into the building saying something about that she couldn’t save him otherwise…. what the hell was going on? Jackson was in Brooklyn, Victoria too, Luke and Niccolo were heading there….. while Phoebe was here.
Ignoring that bit about his family. "Now, now Michael." In such a placid tone, Dave's voice was eerily calm and his eyes were giving away the clues of why. With every second, Michael wasted his breath, every syllable and thought that wasn't heard from them both. Something was happening. "You're the host for the evening, and your mood is central to how this night will proceed." Dave estimated they had another ten minutes till, as soon as the police hit 59th St, he would be gone and would allow the host to do his job.
"You speak to me as if I follow them. And I am sure you've told yourself that when Vito is in question, yet he still breathes." Those rules might have stopped them from killing one another in a past time. For all that it did, those laws just held them all from raging a never ending war against each other. Dave gave up those laws, when he kidnapped Jennifer, maybe they were all taking a page out of the Lucchase's book. But for those like Michael, that were tied into the media the most, those laws were more like shackles.
Phoebe was laughing, making small chats with the people she was sharing her table with. From the sport stars to powerful entrepreneurs, that was the table to be. Except it wasn’t because she would give everything to listen to the conversation between Colomba and Gambino. With the recent events, probability that Genovese and Gambino would end their business was high likely and on the top of that, she wondered which side, if he would take one, would choose Colomba. Throwing secret glances towards their table, she had never made it obvious.
Still with his hands comfortable behind him, he shrugged his shoulder. Michael was entitled to that say, as Dave was entitled to his. Why argue with someone who was rather good at it? "I just wanted to see your face Michael, that is it!" The mild temper he had was in check for now, but the smile he wore lasted even longer than he believed it would. As it faded, he glimpsed at the exits and felt the need to take in the magnificent architecture of a place like this. Italian's built this of course. "So sure about that Michael? Because I have people that would say that won't be the case here." Dave might not have known what Joseph was up to, he would soon learn, it appeared everyone of them was making little moves here and there, keeping everyone on their toes.
Talking to the democratic senator had proven to be a harder task than she had imagined. Even though she knew what the real reason behind his request was, even she could still be grossed out at the way some men were behaving, thinking they could have her just like that. Phoebe maybe had always had her tied to men who were rich and powerful, but never it was not under her control. It went hand in hand, her beauty with their status, but she was the one controlling it, except of the Colomba thing which was in no way controlled by her. But, when senator asked her, after the interview or more so Phoebe’s repeated refusal to accept his aggressive flirting. Saved by her longtime friend, one of the best NY Mets players and a man who belonged to the category of the most wanted bachelors in the country, Phoebe accepted his hand and went to her, well their table on the upper floor. On her way up there, she really couldn’t be sure, but she was pretty that sure she had spotted Jason Steele. Someone was becoming part of this city quicker than she would ever bet on.
Their table was already full, only two available seats that were waiting just for the two of them.
One would expect of Dave to be miserable, but it was far from the truth. After cutting out those poisonous affiliations - he felt a weight was being lifted off his shoulders. Sure, he had to watch his back, watch his wife, and two children like hawks, but was it worth it? Absolutely. Tonight was about charity and good laughs, Halloween notably was one of his favorites.
Watching Michael would be one of his favorites tonight as it would be a game to him. "Michael your hatred is showing," Coming from his side, hands behind his back, the corner of his lips rose to match the light in his blue eyes. "Did I miss anything? The opportunity to speak with Joseph, he wouldn't pull one of your moves would he?"
It had sunken in, it sunk like a rock. Reese had left their family and her husbands side. Gianna didn’t truly care to hear the real reasons why Reese saw Joseph more fit for his needs, Dave had never treated Reese unfit (to her understanding) Reese was just another traitor in this World, and with the rules that followed the courts games…Reese would pay for what he had caused. Not by her husbands hands, not by Joseph’s, not even by Jennifer’s…but this lifestyle. It all would catch up on him one day sooner than hoped. ‘You’ve spoken to them?’ Gianna brushed her hair out of her face and rubbed her mouth ‘Penny and I spoke a while ago on the phone but…’ You couldn’t blame a mother for worrying, it was human nature; even with the promise of security from the man she gave her everything too. Gianna looked at David with glossed eyes ‘I know you will, I know’ She exhaled deeply and sat back on the couch ‘I have to tell you that I ran into both Michael and Vito today at the market. They asked me questions I didn’t have answers too’ Gianna didn’t smile ‘Now I understand.’
Taking a seat beside his wife, again he exhaled tired of thinking about this Steele altercation. From Dave's end, he was done dealing with him, had his fill of fun and torture with him and for all he cared Reese could rot in hell, and he would especially where Dave left him. It was one of the pleasing thoughts, that made it all worth it. The pain and scars that would Steele would have him sleep peacefully at night. Coming out of his darken thoughts, he looked at Gianna once more. "Just for a while, I keep them away from New york," Dave smiled just thinking of his eldest response. "You know Luca put up a fight, wanting to stay behind, Penelope too," But they understood his wishes were to be met with no question. The faint smile he wore, dissipated as soon as she mentioned Vito, Michael he expected that little man to have his nose in places that did not concern him. "Let me guess, Michael was poking around for information?" He asked her, Michael was either smart or stupid - he knew not to come asking Dave for a damn thing. "So you understand what will probably happen next then?"
'Genovese…' She sat back on the coach and stared at the dying fire. Thinking everything over, Reese Steele was once like family, now, her husband was telling her he was less than the dirt he berried him in. Working for Joseph? Joseph?! Gia finished her drink like it was an urgent need, she could hear Dave in the background of her own thought, but there was one mention at caught her attention more than any other. ‘Union?’ She looked at her husband once more, that word only meant one thing to any Italian family. Gia stood up ‘You are telling me- Reese Steele left this family- to work for Joseph Genovese- but fell in love with his youngest daughter?’ Gianna ran her fingers through her hair and took a deep breath. ‘South America’ She snorted a shocked laugh, somehow she found the humour in that. ‘I need a drink’ Gia walked back over to the mini bar and fixed another drink for herself, drinking it down right away. ‘And Joseph? What does he have to say about all this?’ Suddenly, the face of her own daughter came to her mind.
Letting his wife take the time, that was needed to understand everything he was disclosing to her. In a short time, so much had happened, their lives had changed. In some ways for the better, but in some maybe more now for the worse. It was his father's voice that rang loudly in Dave's head. A man with a plan will always be a step ahead in the cosa nostra game. Dave believed that, he needed to, in order to win a war against a man that was always his opponent. "I see it surprised you as well, I imagine Joseph said the same." He finished, seeing this news affected everyone in the same manner. Pure shock, slight amusement on his end. Even Dave had to chuckle at his wife, her reaction didn't make him laugh but it was a funny thought. "You know the Genovese men, Gianna, they expect to intimidate with their looks, not their words. But so far we haven't heard anything on his end and before you bring it up, Luca is safe, so is penelope, I won't them anywhere near our family." He promised her.
'Of course we are! Luca and Penny would love India, even if they've already been there! They won't have a choice' She laughed, Gia missed her children, but they weren't babies anymore! They were off having their own adventures and at school (hopefully). Gia smiled as Dave opened his small gift, leaning back into his side she picked up on the one word she hoped not to hear 'Trouble'. She listened to her husband 'Are you telling me that Reese Steele is no longer part of this family?' Gia was shocked. Reese was always so loyal, so trustworthy. Unlike Logan. Was this the trouble Vito and Michael were referring too? Losing Reese was something Gia would handle, because that was her place, but she had a feeling there was more to this story that she had wanted to be. Gia looked at Dave's face as he faced her. 'Accordingly?' Gia asked softly 'Tell me…'
They would have that trip, if Dave had anything to say about it. It would be that they would all go on that trip, have a good time and enjoy being a family. It was one of the cons of his work, his family was so involved - whether he liked it or not. Jennifer's kidnapping, meant his daughter, maybe son was in danger. It was good Dave was smart to keep them away, keep them protected. "Exactly," He confirmed her words. "His loyalty lies with the Genovese now, or did, is a better way to put it." There was no smile, or smirk present on his face, he was serious now. "I had to take care of him, but of course I found out some rather interesting things along the way. Jennifer Genovese, would you have even guessed, Joseph would allow such a union?" He let that sink in, this night for them both would be a long one. "I took him, Reese, to south america to finish him off, the way I left him, he barely remembers his own name..."
Matthew turned around and saw a dead man, Dave Gambino. ‘I’m surprised you came back at all.’ Matthew held back any expression ‘But all the same, I believe you are to be congratulated! That was all rather impressive!’ He didn’t have to say about what, it was headline on all the underground doors. ‘but you didn’t finish it? why?’ Matthew would have just killed her. One less Genovese bitch, the better.
"Did you really thing I would abandon my home.." Dave couldn't help but smile, it was one of amusement as he stepped to the man. "While I'm surprised you think so lowly of me," It was everywhere now, the news of his latest feat. One involving the Genovese daughter, it still brought a smile to his face. "I decided this time to take a rather slow torture approach, and I got what I wanted, didn't care for the little girl's blood on my hands, more of it anyway, where is Vito these days?"

”Thank you. I always lose stuff.”
"No need to thank me, -where is the rest of your gang these days?"
She wrapped her fingers around his when he placed his arms over her, inhaling and exhaling deeply she was excited to share all of her stories of adventure with him once more. ‘I started in India this time, I sailed the Kereala backwaters and saw the Elephant caves, the Taj Mahal and the Ganges!’ She smiled ‘I finally saw the Angkor Ruins and the Kulan Hills in Cambodia!’ She closed her eyes and remembered the amazement that she left behind ‘Indonesia and Thailand were unforgettable! There was so much to see, so much to learn! You really should come with me next time!’ She knew that was so much to ask, but she knew deep down he would love it just to be with her. ‘The markets were remarkable and the libraries! Well…’ She pointed to 3 large piles of books she had brought back ‘They will make a wonderful addition to our own! And for you darling-’ She stood up and walked over to a desk on the far side of the room. Brining him back over a small tan leather suitcase, inside were a case of his favourite cigars and a bottle of classic Bombay bourbon, something simple but something he would use! Gianna had also bought new furniture and bedding, curtains, art supplies for her studio but all that would arrive in weeks to come. She laid into his side once more. ‘I am glad to be home though! I always am.’ She drank from her gin glass. ‘What have you been working on?’ She smiled, for this moment she had forgotten about Vito and Michael but- ‘Oh, Dave’ Gia sat up and face her husband ‘Did you know Reese had brothers? I ran into one the day I came back! He was a very lovely young man, I’d even say nicer than Reese. I invited him to join us for dinner one evening, Reese will be happy to hear!’ She laid back down once again.
Dave with a smile upon his face, was able to close his eyes. His fingers caressing his wives as she began her tale of exotic adventures. Those he wished he could have joined her on, but he had plenty of his own didn't he? "I thought we were to explore those Elephant Caves together, with Luca and Penelope?" Dave mindlessly opened his eyes to her, still smiling, still holding her close to him as he spoke of their children. "Hmm.." He pondered, to get away from this city at a time like this was not the option. When he spoke to Campano earlier, the man expected him to be hiding in the shadows -- that would never be him, a Gambino doesn't hide, and Dave stood by all of his actions, no matter how brutal they were. If the youngest Genovese wanted to play in mafia games, she would get just what she wanted, she would learn even more by playing them herself and for Dave it was such a treat to see. But he couldn't think of that now, at least not while he was listening to his wife, falling for that woman even more with her stories. "To join you....now that can be arranged love, you will see.." He sat up, facing her to place just on soft peck to her cheek. His eyes followed her to the stack books ready to be stacked in their library. When she got up, his their entwined hands slowly came apart as she brought him back something, a gift. He looked at her, curiosity peaked, he touched the leather material before looking again to his wife. "What is this.." Before he could even tell her it was not necessary, he saw a case of his favorite cigars and the bottle of classic Bombay bourbon. Closing it just as quickly to place by his side, he welcomed her wrapping his arm around her because he missed her. But their good reunion was about to take a turn, once he began his own little tale of what he did. "I'm glad you're back, but it's such a troubling time..." He wondered just where should he start, however his wife was still not done with her surprises. Reese has brothers? Dave's smile was small, as he looked around the room thinking just what where they here for, but then again he knew all to well. "I'm afraid, Reese's brother won't be so happy to hear of what has happened to his dear brother, Reese no longer works for me and I had to deal with him accordingly..." He let that sink in, when he faced his wife again.

” ─ I'm sorry, have you got a lighter? I think I've lost mine.”
"Always asking for something, Dillon, here you can keep it."
Matthew hated the city heat. It was far from the heat a good beach gave off, or even the felling of a tropical storm when staying in Fiji! The fumes coming off the cars and buildings; was toxic, he hated the smell of the city sewage rising from the underground pipes, he even hated the change in daylight hours. But there was one thing he hated most of all, the summer tourists. ‘Always in the fucking way’ He shook his head. They made it harder for Matthew to get work done…more bodies in the city meant it was harder for Matthew to find the one his was currently looking for and right now, that face belonged to Jackson Genoevese. Matthew wrapped up his unfinished cheeseburger and threw it away, not realizing he missed the garbage bin he heard a voice yell back at him.
Dave saw one of the people, he had hoped to see. When he made his return to New York, it was with a plan. A full proof one, and he just needed to find that mad king of Staten Island, but Campano could always relay the message. "I come back to this city, with more than one surprise" He thought aloud. "...Campano," Dave called to him.
" You sound a little shocked or disappointed, maybe? Now, why don’t you get straight to the point, and tell me what you really want to fucking say?"
"An innocent life was taken, I am a father, you put two and two together. I'd be raising hell and then some on this city, as we speak Victoria."
Gianna dimmed the lights in the house and carried her medium glass of gin into the living room. Setting it down on a coaster, she picked up a small box and opened the wrappings, taking out a tiny replica of the Angkor ruins, which she had recently returned from. She had no more than unwrapped her new treasure when she heard the familiar sound of her husbands voice calling her name. Gia did not turn around, her heart just grew with excitement as she felt his steps coming closer and closer. He was by her side once more, she wrapped his arms around her waist and just took in the moment. Remembering the deep sound of his voice, ‘Just two days now, not long’ Sometimes it was easier being around the other side of the world when missing Dave, she didn’t have to physically worry, where as being home in New York for two days sent her around the bend not knowing where her husband was or what he was doing, especially when running into both Michael and Vito in the same day. Gia finally turned around and looked deep into her husbands face. He was tired and she could see that. She leaned in for a long embracing kiss ‘I missed you’ She breathed. She smiled gracefully and held his hand leading him over to the large leather sectional, picking up her gin along the way ‘Here’ She walked behind him and removed his jacket. As Dave sat down, Gia went over to the mini bar and fixed him a smooth drink, walking back over and handing him his fresh glass, she sat beside him and unbuttoned the first few buttons on his shirt. She sat back and leaned into his tired body. ‘Hmmm’ She deeply inhaled and exhaled, watching the low fire. ‘Shall you start or shall I?’ She smiled
Dave didn't resist her attempts to remove his jacket, he had already worked on his tie, the moment he stepped in the door. A natural smile appear on his face when she mention those words to him, of missing him and it couldn't have been more true in relation to him. He missed her, his family, but work was to be done. The only downfall of this business was how it intervened with family. He further realized how much he missed her, when she kissed him to which he showed her in returned just how much he did. Taking a seat, himself he took the drink, only needing a few sips to calm his nerves - Gia always knew what he needed, and when he did. Wrapping an arm around her, he again had to place his lips somewhere on her, just to be content before he spoke of his day, his entire week. "You start, I'll finish.." He always wanted to hear about where she would go, her latest adventure, it never ceased to amaze him, also it was easier to enjoy in times like this when everything, considering the mafia had taken place.
