Always a pleasure working with the gang from SPORTIUM. Shooting in multiple locations over several days is something i thrive on and this last LookBook shoot was no exception. Night shots, shooting at local cool-kids watering holes, city rooftops, cross-fit gyms and even a trampoline in the studio (because we can) were all elements of this fun challenging project.
Here are a few shots from the LookBook starting with the cover.
These images were taken at Apartment 200 in Montreal
As always, a few backstage shots of the team:)

Had the absolute pleasure of shooting with Jean-Marie Zeitouni who is the chef Orchestre for I MUSICI DE MONTREAL CHAMBER. These images were created to live in the event program (digital and print) as well as a city wide street poster and out of home ad campaign.

So the gang from Altitude Sports decided that they wanted to send out a promo piece to all their valued customers. I’m always excited when a client steps away from the digital world and decides to create something more tangible. It’s a decision that requires many hours of hard work, planning & dedication. However the added value of one of their clients receiving something directly to their doorstep, from a brand they already know and love is great investment.
Once the project started taking shape, we realized that the promo-piece was quickly evolving in to a full blown multi page lookbook. Here are some images from the process as well as a few of the final layouts:)
Here are a few of the night shots we did for Canada Goose. Really dig these.

It’s not every day that a project like this comes across my desk. I have mentioned in past posts how amazing it can be when you are in a position to grow with a new company/client. Often this consisted of smaller designers/brands and start-ups. Now let’s scale that up a little. Say, a few brand new impressive 70,000 square foot stores launching FW2015 carrying the most impressive activewear, sports equipment, garments and accessories in the business. In a nutshell, this was a job that had many layers and many moving parts...To this I say; Let’s do it!!
In walks Andreanne and Claudine who are leading the creative/visual marketing charge for this new banner. Determined to push the limit of what would be considered the norm, instantly i know that we will be getting off to a great and very strong start.
The challenge; Shoot their LookBook which consists of a 4 day location and studio shoot touching on all the goodies one would find in fall/winter activities and sport. From concept development to casting and scouting we pushed hard to get some of the strongest end results possible. I am very happy and proud to have worked with this team following this project from start straight through to fruition.
Could not have completed a shoot of this magnitude without the help of an amazing team, so to start these #projectnotes I believe a photo of the group is highly necessary:) meet the Team-Sportium. Couldn’t have done it without these guys....
Here is how the LookBook turned out along with a few of the spreads.
Carey Price who is the ambassador for Sportium and all around good guy was great to have on set.

The launch of this fun, young, cozy brand was a fantastic process to be a part of. Take a team of 17, book multiple locations, a studio shoot and let’s not forget a full day of shooting outdoors in early March (in Montreal) and here’s what you get!
“Cozy is hear to stay”
So how does the team stay warm during a full day of shooting at -5ºC?? That’s simple, you don’t...Haha! Here are a few of the Original Totties getting it done!

LbyLoume creates playful, fun and adventurous bags for all of the free-spirits out there. Their creed is Live. Love. Laugh. I couldn't ask for a client with a more parallel way of thinking to how I approach my own life, both professional and personal. If you are not enjoying every damn day, then why do it? I have to say that I am very lucky to love what I do. It's hard work and dedication that got me to this point and it will be that hard work and dedication that will allow me to continue. Not to mention good music at the studio ;)

So mid June of last year I was biking back from the studio and decided to stop and chill on the Lachine Canal to enjoy the remainder evening. It was just before sun set and I realized that I live right on this amazingly located (and somewhat clean) body of water and do nothing to take advantage of it.
Cue the impulse buy? why not!
{Here’s a shot a few streets away from the Atwater Market in Montreal}
After a quick search on my not-so-smart mobile device, I fell upon Paddle Boards Direct. These guys are a supplier of inflatable (and regular) Stand Up Paddle boards otherwise known as an S_U_P or SUP. After reading up on a few reviews of the website as well as the products that they offer, I swiped my digital credit card and ordered up a pair boards. If you decide to call them, then ask for Glenn. He’s a cool dude who’s happy to help in any way that he can.
At a cool $1000/board it’s quite an investment to which i can honestly say that I have not regretted for single moment. I have enjoyed countless sunrise and sunset paddles on the canal as well as tons of other lakes and oceans. If you are ever looking for a therapeutic calming way to start and/or end your day this would be on the top of my list. Also a pretty kick ass core workout. On the Canal you can paddle out 4-5km before hitting one of the locks and if you are not in a rush, allow the slow current to take you back. During this time drifting, one can sit down and enjoy a book, travel through a quick Yoga flow or simply sit back and enjoy the view. I guess paddling back is also an option:) A few times, I have hopped out at the Atwater Market and picked up a Café latte from Au Pain Dore and then hopped back on. They see me walking towards the cafe with a board in hand and are thinking: Where the heck has he come from??
I have also had the pleasure of bringing many of my friends out for their first SUP experience and not one of my “students” has left disappointed. Although a few have tumbled into the canal...no worries, they are still alive. I have also conducted quite a few work meetings while out for a paddle. Having other creative freelance colleagues is always a plus and it’s an amazing way to discuss up coming projects.
{#jubs wet}
So I mentioned that these boards are inflatable. Which means the board, pump, fins (removable) & paddle (collapsable) all fit neatly into a large (but manageable) backpack. it takes about 10min to inflate one with the hand pump and it’s a good shoulder work out & warmup before hitting the water. After years of flying with 7’4” surfboard on a plane ($150 both ways for handling fee), I never thought that I would be checking in a 10’8” board as “regular” sized luggage. This means if you are able to pack all your cloths in a carry on, there is no extra fee for traveling with an inflatable SUP (providing your carrier doesn’t charge for the first checked bag). So these two boards in the past year have travelled to Panama, Florida, New Jersey, Maine, Trinidad, Tobago & Saint Lucia along with countless lakes across Quebec & Ontario. Considering all the connecting tickets it works out to about 16 flights total where they were thrown off and on and all around. I am happy to report that they are still holding strong. The travel backpacks have seen better days (and should be replaced this winter) however i feel this is appropriate wear & tare considering. I noticed the model available on their site now comes with wheels. #winning
So what having one of these boards entails for me is freedom. Simple and as beautiful as that. To have the ability when driving up the coast to hop out at any giving moment and roll out a board and float around a cool spot that you saw when driving is an amazing thing. These boards are equipped with a criss-cross bungee system on the front and back which allows you to strap down your shoes, dry-bag and even better yet, a snorkel and fins. Being able to “stand” on water allows you to see down below very clearly, so spotting the best spots to throw the fins on and go snorkelling is a breeze. By simply strapping on a surf leash, the board will follow behind you while you are snorkelling which allows you to keep it close and also bestows a confidence that would not be there (at least for me) if the board wasn’t quietly follow behind you.
Did i mention surf leash? Because you can do that too:)
{Venao Beach, Panama}
So what do i take out of this first year owning a Cruise Inflatable SUP. best investment i have made in a long while. Montreal is a great place to have one of these boards. Flying out to any destination with one although takes some logistics, is eye-opening and amazing. What i have spent ($) on the boards, I have saved 2X on what it would have costed to check a surfboard and hire a boat to go snorkelling. Having the ability to do all when ever or where ever you want is simply amazing.
Voila!

{Theres the therapy i keep talking about...}
A few things I have learned along the way:
-The pressure gauge that screws on between the pump & hose is very delicate. This is your guide to how much pressure to pump up the boards. I recommend putting that in it’s own separate pouch.
-I have been storing the boards when not in use slightly inflated (not to pressure) in a cool, dry space (garage storage room) the idea is that the least amount of time spent rolled up, the longer the life. I’ll keep you posted on this:)
-Keep the boards out of the sun (UV rays) when ever not in use.
-There is a little pin that holds the main fin in place when installed on the track system of the board. it’s loose and can slip out. Glue that in place with silicone right away or you will lose it.
-After ocean use, rinse with fresh water as soon as you can. paddles included. there is some metal in the pins that hold the paddles together. They will erode mighty quickly with salt water.
Last week I got to put Barry to rest. As a matter of fact we all got to put Barry to rest. Typical of Barry, it was standing room only at the massive hall. Always go big. His family & friends gave a beautiful service to celebrate his amazing life. He has touched so many people in the time that he spent on this earth. I am no exception to this fact. I spent the better part of my young adult life traveling, shooting, learning & laughing with Barry. Not to mention the amazing teammates he would constantly surround himself with.
I can honestly say that because of this, I have an extended photo-family that runs clear across North America and beyond. These are all friends and colleagues who at a moments notice i know would be there for me and I for them. We all experience an amazing bond & an understanding of what is truly important in life.
If i made a list of how many times I have been up and down the California Coast, Miami and so many other places with Barry it would make anyone’s head spin. How many times did Drew and I roll to location with (several) surf boards on the roof and Barry would see the van and just smile…
On more than one occasion in the past, Barry’s life was almost cut short because of cancer. He was always the first to remind us all that you have to live life every damn day. Putting aside the fact that I am who I am as a photographer and a human because of him, this is the one thing that myself and countless others will take away having known Barry. Live every damn day…
And so we all are. And if there is one thing i can promise, I will continue to do so.
Thanks for everything dawg:)
Love David

Into the studio walks Olimpia Testa the visionary behind many of the concepts created by Italbec over the years. I should also mention that she is an Instagram addict!!!! Not far behind Olimpia walks in Irina & Tony who are leading the marketing campaign for this awesome Montreal company.
The Foot Selfie has been a beautiful, although at times misunderstood, phenomenon that has been rocking profiles of Instagram for a number of years now. What better way to show off sexy one-of-a-kind ceramics & tiles than by adding equally sexy and stylish shoes. Oh, and Kim’s legs are pretty easy on the eyes too :)
During our first pre-production meeting when (delicious) shoes were brought up, I immediately thought about giving my good friends at BROWNS a call. We introduced the concept to them, they loved the direction and voila! a collaboration was born :)
The shoot will be a two part series. Half dropped this summer and the 2nd half will be coming out FW2015.
Here’s how the first billboard turned out. Please excuse my face in the foreground...

It seems every time i get a phone call from Mr. Johann Smith who is one of the heads of creation for this friendly Montreal web marketing agency. It’s always something fun, creative and we are always going to get dirty. In the words of the not so famous me. dig it:)
So Dagwoods is launching their new hot sauce(s) and the direction things are going in are big expression while at the same time leaving the viewers feeling slightly awkward or maybe uncomfortable do to some spillage of said sauce. I tell Johann, “I may know a few beautiful faces that can pull this off” ( and do it well). So the casting was put together, the team was built and we got it done!
Voila enjoy!

Tonight I will be attending (and contributing to) an event coined “my little red suitcase” being held by Italbec International.
Italbec has been a client of mine for a number of years now and they take their social responsibility as serious as their ceramic :)
Contrived by the one and only Olimpia Testa, my little red suitcase was started in order to give back to the community. Proceeds gathered from this event going straight to Le Chaînon. A woman’s shelter located here in Montreal.
I’m proud to call Italbec a client and Olimpia a friend.
Please read on and make a donation if you can

I have worked with many singers and musicians over the years. When i found out that Justin was coming by the studio i thought, ok cool. He’s got a great look and he’s being mentored by the great Mike Goldfarb of Talent Nation so he must be pretty good.
Fast-forward to the day of the shoot, we knock out a couple of amazing portraits to start the day, including the B&W you see just below. By that point i’m thinking. ok, maybe better then “good” as things are off to a smooth start! During the 3rd or 4th shot, I asked Justin to simply sit on a bench in the middle of the studio with his guitar and sing a few tunes...HOLY SH*T!! Good?? This guy is amazing. He was about 2/3's of the way through a song before I realized that I hadn't taken a single shot. I'm just sitting there on an apple box listening. fantastic.
So the word on the street is that since this shoot took place, Justin has been flown out to L.A. to write and record an E.P. with the producer Brian Howes. I wouldn’t expect any less from this guy. Really looking forward to seeing what 2015 will bring to Justin.
Cheers.
