In this second brief reading from Heathcliff: The Lost Years, Heathcliff overhears a conversation between Catherine, the young woman he loves, and Nelly Dean, a servant. Catherine confesses she has agreed to marry Edgar Linton, a rich neighbor. Heartbroken and furious, Heathcliff decides to flee Wuthering Heights.

Heathcliff: The Lost Years, is the untold story at the heart of the classic novel Wuthering Heights. It covers the three years Heathcliff was gone from Wuthering Heights, turbulent and adventurous years which changed him forever. How he achieved his remarkable transformation is not explained in Emily Bronte’s original but is explained here.

In this reading from my book Heathcliff: The Lost Years,, a young waif is picked up from the streets of Liverpool by a kindly gentleman and taken to Wuthering Heights.

The reading is from Chapter 1 and like all eleven excerpts and the introduction to this series, it has been edited for brevity to provide readers a quick sample of the book.

INTRODUCING ONE MINUTE EXCERPTS

This video introduces a series of very short readings from my new novel, Heathcliff: The Lost Years, the untold story at the heart of Wuthering Heights. Readings will be posted on social media. My novel tracks what happened to Heathcliff when he left Wuthering Heights for three years.

As he searches for a way to return to his first love, haunted by memories of her, Heathcliff goes to Liverpool, embarks on astounding adventures on a slave ship to Africa, crosses the treacherous Middle Passage, sees the slave auctions and brothels of Jamaica, and moves on to 18th century London and the book’s surprising conclusion.
