My art is My view on My world. Subjects typically consist of very common items in very common locations. I like to present new views of the mundane world we live in. Using different photographic equipment and techniques, I attempt to craft the unique from the common. Often my work is made with specialty lenses and finished with advanced editing techniques. I like to express myself about topics I know a lot about..... or nothing at all. My art is a way for me to engage the viewer to do the same with what they are seeing and feeling. Rarely do I try to make a statement with my images; instead, I present a subject for investigation and engagement by the viewer.
Spent a morning a couple weeks ago walking around the Garden District / St. Charles Avenue areas shooting with my recently infrared converted camera. These are also my first time editing with the CLiR panel. Here are some of my favorites…
We stopped by the Franklin, TN square last weekend for the annual gathering of bluegrass musicians, cloggers, and the people that love them both! It is the the Bluegrass Along the Harpeth Fiddlers Jamboree and it is held every 4th weekend in July.
Walking from our car we passed numerous groups of fiddlers, guitarists, dobro-ists(?) and steel guitar players jamming where ever they could find a…

Holt Cemetery, the least known cemetery in New Orleans…
In a city famous for its unique cemeteries, there is one that you probably never have heard of or visited, but you really should! Holt Cemetery was established in the late 1800s as a Potters Field for the indigent residents of New Orleans by Dr. Joseph Holt, an official for the New Orleans Board of Health.
The cemetery is the resting place for over 50,000 of the city’s poorest. There are a…
Yesterday we did a little exploration in our sometimes home town of New Orleans. My wife has been reading about the city and there was a passage about Algiers Point, the 2nd oldest part of New Orleans. It is across the Mississippi river so we caught the ferry at the end of Canal street which took us directly to Algiers Point. Here are a few images taken on the way there, while walking around…
As I mentioned in my last post, there is no carnival this year in the Big Easy. The parades have been replaced with homes decorated in a similar manner to the floats that use to pass by.
A couple nights ago, on a night in the carnival season that one of the largest Krewes would be parading through the streets, everything was quiet. There were families and couples and groups of friends visiting…
With the decision to cancel Mardi Gras this year, the resilient population of New Orleans came up with the idea of Yardi Gras! Since floats will not be parading down St. Charles this year, the idea was to decorate homes throughout the city. They have utilized Mardi Gras artists and materials from past carnival seasons/floats to recreate the spirit of Mardi Gras. Here is a link to a great video…
While in New Orleans last month, I walked around downtown and primarily photographed the Hancock Whitney Building, formerly known as One Shell Square.
The first post was focused primarily on the building itself. This post/these images are of the building in context of the surroundings.

This past week I took advantage of the nice weather and sunshine to shoot some images while trying to get me daily 10,000 steps. Since it was sunny out, I used my LifePixel infrared converted camera, a Sony a6000.
These first two shots were taken around my home here in Green Hills using my Lensbaby Trio28 lens.
During another early evening walk, this time with my wife at the Bells Bend Greenway, I used my Sony 16-35 lens on the a6000.
I know infrared, especially color infrared, is not to everyone’s liking. Let me know your thoughts!

Yesterday I visited family at their new home they purchased. Yes, homes are being bought during the global pandemic.
While the others were eating some lunch, I did a little exploring in the woods behind the home with my infrared converted camera, Sony a6000, and a Lensbaby Trio28 lens. The canopy was thick enough that the light at ground level was pretty flat and boring, especially with the infrared camera. So, I turned my lens upward, towards the tree tops and the small breaks in the cover.
Here are a few of my favorites…

Ted Forbes from the Art of Photography youtube channel is once again doing Photo Assignments given we have a lot more time at home to improve our skills. His first assignmentis about available light and trying to re-create/mimic a still life photo as created by Josef Sudek.
I took advantage of the the free time this morning to try creating my image. I chose this image of Sudek’s as my inspiration:
I really liked the refraction of the light from the bevels on the glass and how it impacted the look of the eggs in the background. I was missing a few things to re-create this image…namely the glass! And seltzer or mineral water to get the bubbles or a brown egg. But I had a glass, water, eggs, and some available window light. I started with one glass type…but it didn’t look right.
Then I tried a different one that was taller and had horizontal bevels. The glass was taller and to get some impact from the water and refraction, I decided to add eggs into the glass as opposed to just behind.
I wasn’t getting the kind of light i wanted, so I moved things to the other window nearby and closer to it. I was still getting some edge light from the original window and i liked that. I even changed the angle of the blinds to modify the light.
Lastly, I raised the blinds and got a slightly different look…the light was a broader, less focused.
Clearly the intention of Sudek is more visible in his image and I was working with what I had available. I did like how it turned out though!
I then grabbed a couple flowers and went up to my office and a different window to make some additional still life images. With these I edited the final product and included some textures/overlays. Let me know what you think!

We are all doing our part to flatten the curve of this 2020 China Virus Pandemic by staying home. But, I am sure you can’t stay cooped up for days on end without going stir crazy! So, when you are on your next toilet paper and mask shopping/hunting trip, go check out my image that is on a couple billboards around Nashville.

I spent a little time shooting downtown today and stopped in to the Nashville City Cemetery to shoot a little more before heading home. The cemetery is such a wonderful place to shoot and I enjoy it every time I go there.
Last October while visiting New Orleans, I took an early Sunday morning stroll down Bourbon Street. The remains from the previous night’s revelry was both astonishing and intriguing. I imagines myself as a forensic anthropologist trying to put together the story of the past inhabitants. Each plastic grenade cup, each oyster shell, and each overflowing trash can have a story waiting to be retold…
