'Lost in Translation' is an artwork about references. It follows the style of John Kacere who was part of the initial photorealism movement that started in the 1960's. He was most known for painting the mid-section of the female body. In the 2003 film 'Lost in Translation' directed by Sophia Coppola, it's opening frame begins with a reference to Kacere. The frame features the mid-section of Scarlet Johansson similar to Kacere's painting 'Cynthia' (1982). I saw this painting while studying photorealism in Estonia and as a reaction my artwork is a combination of influences that become lost in translation. Awarded a commendation by the Graeme Hildebrand Foundation, it is on display at the Red Gallery until the 29th of October. #art #redgallery #graemehildebrandprize #drawing #paper #figure #charcoal #prismacolor (at Red Gallery)
