Prologue - May These Noises Startle You In Your Sleep
Seven Generations. That’s how long the Lee Family has operated their family business and have held their place as the “most powerful family organization the world had ever seen.”
The family began with Lee Sung-Ho, who built an empire from his ability to excel organizational crime on a level no one had ever seen. Sung-Ho created a force to be reckoned with, which in return naturally caused him tp form enemies from every corner. Men who wanted to be him and others who wanted him dead. None like his enemy, Hwang Hyun-woo, the first generation leader of the Hwang Family.
The tension between the families never went unhidden. Many people on both sides lost their lives to countless feuds and battles. No matter the outcome, The Lee family never submitted to the Hwangs, no matter how far the Hwangs went. To sum it up without all the details, it wasn’t pretty. The feud only continued as generations passed, both families never seeking peace, only more reasons to create a divide.
To make our story more interesting, each leader of both families birthed sons to carry their family name and business to the next generation. Not planned, but convenient, am I right? Since the beginning of time itself, it was ludacris for a woman to run any type of business, let alone a mafia business. Women were seen as sex dolls for the men who ran the big boys. A woman was to look pretty, bear children, and speak when spoken to.
You see, every leader besides my father, Lee Won-Shik, birthed a son. I was the first daughter born from a leader of the Lee Family… and I was the only child.
Because in the midst of a war between the Hwang Family and Lee Family, my parents birth me in secrecy, sworn to hide me away and never make my existence known. And soon after I was taken into hiding, my parents perished at the hands of The Hwangs.
After the passing of my parents, The Hwang family delightfully took their place at top, believing that the reign of the Lee Family was finally over because a child was not born and many of my family members were either dead or in hiding. My grandfather, having survived the massacre, sought revenge and strategized a plan to operate under the shadows. He believed that training me to take my rightful spot as the leader of the Lee Family was a given but he also devised a plan far more sinister. He wanted to attack the Hwang family somewhere they would least expect it.
So as silence passed in the following months of the massacre of my parents, The Hwangs welcomed into the world their one and only son, Hwang Hyunjin.
