Lucky or Unlucky, It All Evens Out: Binbougami Ga! by Yoshiaki Sukeno

                            So right off the bat for season 2 of my blog is a series that I really recently got hooked on and is steadily getting popular in Japan. BUT NOT ENOUGH HERE WHAT THE HELL GUYS STICK YOUR HEADS OUT OF NARUTO AND ONE PIECE AND LOOK AT OTHER SERIES (o bleach isn't even in consideration anymore). *ehem* but going back on topic, this series Binbougami ga! (trans: God of Misfortune is! (?)) is a really funny comedy manga. And its not just three stooges slap in the face comedy like bobobobobobobo or just wordy reference funny like Gintama, its a great balance of the two funnies where you get enough laugh from both characters in pain and the references to pop culture it makes. Also every character has such a good background/personalities to them that every person in the manga is so interesting so its hard to hate anyone or confuse them. So review on!

                             So the story is pretty funny, but also creative. The series begins with an introduction of a cliche girl who's smarted, talented, popular, and athletic. Pretty much your average perfect joe kurokami medaka ya know. But the thing thats different is that the only reason Sakura Ichiko is striving to be perfect isn't cause she'a goody goody nice girl but cause she's pretty much a bitch that loves standing on top of others. She literally loves envious people talking smack about her in the bathroom. 

              Well just when her life was going perfect she gets a surprise visit from the goddess of misfortune Binbouda Momiji. Turns out the only reason Ichiko's life is so perfect is because her Fortune Energy or the amount of luck she has is enormously high compared to an average person. Actually, Ichiko is unconsciously absorbing the Fortune Energy of people around her. So pretty much Momiji is here to take away Ichiko's Fortune Energy while Ichiko doesn't want to mess up her perfect life by getting her luck taken away. And so the battle between the big-boob, energetic, easily tempered Ichiko and flat-chested, dull, calm Momiji begins..

                  Another part of this manga that I ABSOLUTELY love is the cameos of characters from different series Momiji cosplays in. Depending on the situation or the phrases she says, Momiji cosplays into a JUMP character which really adds on to the comedy.

So this manga in my opinion is really avante-garde and has such a different sense of humor from other manga series. I really love laughing my butt off in almost every chapter and the action in the manga isn't bad AT ALL. So do go read this series and enjoy. Peace out fellow otakus and see you soon!

AAnnnnnnd I'm back.

                            Yup, hey guys long time no see? And yes it has been a year since I wrote last time. I'm really sorry for the desertion and all guys, I had a really bad case of procrastination and sloth and it was really hard to get around to writing this blog. *sniff*

                                               So I graduated high school and I'm going to Maine for college. I'm really hoping I'll be able to continue writing this blog in college since there's not much to do in Maine lolza. But don't worry people! This one year hiatus does not mean my otakuness has down graded or my language skills have gone terrible. Its all better!! See I started working at a Japanese book store in charge of the mangas so I have so many different amazing mangas in stock to tell you guys!!

                   And to restart or re-grand-open my blog I made some changes! As you might have noticed the background is now an awesome collage of panels from various series of JUMP (or from the game JUMP ULTIMATE STARS,which btw is an amazing game). The profile picture isn't me from 10th grade but awesome me with a katana in my hand. And last but not least (actually the biggest), I changed the tumblr url to dbelworld from dbelphegor966. why? cause its so much easier to memorize ya know. 

                             Well I'm going to start writing a post as soon as I'm done with this post so please look forward to it! And I hope all of you guys who used to read my blog will come back and I gain some new fans!! Love you all!

Nonononononononononononono: Nononono by Okamoto Lynn

No, the title of this post isn't me telling you to not do something or telling you to refrain from clicking the "unfollow" which isn't even a real word button on the top right side of the screen (which I kinda sorta don't want you to ever to click). The title of this post is a continuous repetition of the letters "n" and "o" because the title of the manga I'm reviewing today happened to be called Nononono.

So anyways, it's been a fairly long time since I wrote on here and of course I know none of you even missed me cause i have less than 10 followers who has better things to do in life, but the reason I'm writing today is for my dear awesome groovy otaku friend Bryan (hey Bryan your name's on the internet!). Dear Bryan brought that otaku spirit I had in me when I first made this Tumblr. So thank him if anyone followed what I wrote.

Now going back to track, this manga isn't about some pessimistic man that says no to everyone and randomly smashes a pair of skis on people's heads; this manga is just about ski jumping. Yea, ski jumping. There's literally a manga about everything you can imagine and here's one about ski jumping. BUT SOME SERIOUS INTENSE SKI JUMPING.

The story is about a girl who wants to enter the Winter Olympics for ski jumping, but as less than 2% of the world population know, women can't enter the Olympics ski jumping *gasp*. So this dear protagonist girl named Nonomiya Nono (Thus the title. seriously what kind of parents name their kids Nono?) takes the identity of her dead twin brother and starts ski jumping. Of course the whole public thinks the girl is dead and not the brother. Confusing but you'll get it if you ever read it. 

Well this manga still has a slice of life mixed in with the sports that involves going down a slope and jumping in the snow. But I guess the author of this manga never had a bright childhood or something, the "normal" part of this life is just a group of delusional love-obsessed perverted teenagers with the most obnoxious personalities. O that involves the main character or other major characters to take actions such as: Beat up other teens, grope and molest a sleeping girl, asking random girls to have sex with them, being allergic to girls, and wanting to make random guys slaves. The author obviously never talked to people before. 

But overall this manga is a pretty fun read. Mostly cause the worst-case-scenario sh*ts just fall on the main character girl. Not much, just getting almost raped or falling off 300M and surviving. If you like intense alpine ski jumping stuff (which I doubt) or you like being a sadist and likes to watch characters going up in life and then falling in to shitholes, this manga's probably for you, you little psychotic,demented child.

Wakusei no Samidare Does Not Translate to Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. But Whatevs. Awesome Manga by Mizukami Satoshi

SOooo I been planning to write about this series for a really long time since my friend (James. You remember him from the Blazer Drive post right?) asked me too but I never got around to it. I was too lazy.  But my guilty conscience from not writing about such a great series finally convinced me to do it right now. So ladies and gentlemen, this is a review of one of the best series I read. Lights, monitor, action!! (<--Yea, that kinda failed).

So Harry, why did you like this series so much? Well that's a great question Harry. The main reason I splattered my full nude attention to this series is because of its creativity. I mean, no other person in this whole pollution infested world besides Mizuaki Satoshi can write and draw such a great manga. From the characters to the powers and the plot is all unique. I assure you you never seen a manga anything like this before. 

WAIT HARRY, YOU BEEN BLABBERING OUT OF YOUR ASS ABOUT HOW ORIGINAL THIS SERIES IS IN THE LAST PARAGRAPH BUT YOU NEVER ACTUALLY EXPLAINED WHAT THIS STORY IS ABOUT. Well, that's a great rant Harry. Well let me explain the plot for you. Amamiya Yuuhi is a dull ordinary boy who one day wakes up and finds a talking lizard on his chest. The lizard explains that Yuuhi has been chosen as the Lizard Knight and must now protect the princess and defeat the evil mage Animus in order to protect the Earth from a giant floating hammer in the sky (That is a lot of information in one sentence). So he later finds the princess who he's suppose to protect and falls in love with her. But then it turns out that the only reason the princess wants to defeat the evil mage is so that she can destroy the earth herself; being in love with her an all, Yuuhi agrees to her plan. 

Well later they find other animal kights (like the Crow Knight, Horse Knight, etc) and together they fight evil. 

So just by reading this review, you can't really udnerstand the greatness of this manga. Well not at all. Actually, this post is pretty bad. Definitely not one of my best. But I still had to get the word out there. I mean like......this series is like.....YEAAAAAAAA

My Bible as an Otaku. Genshiken by Kio Shimoku

  On October 24th, 2010, I went on mangastream.com. I noticed there was a new chapter release called Genshiken, so I thought it was a one-shot and began to read it until I realized it was the 57th chapter of an already on-going series. So I was like waddafack is this, so I went to mangareader.com and I started reading Genshiken from chapter 1. AND HOOLY CRAP. IT WAS A PERFECT REPRESENTATION OF MY IDEAL LIFE. IT WAS JUST OTAKUNESS OVERLOAD AND WAS AMAZED BY THIS SERIES. So I declared it my bible.

 WAIT, so i totally didn't tell you on the last paragraph what Genshiken was about or why I made it my bible. I kinda pushed it against you like the Christians in the Middle Ages. Well Genshiken is pretty much a manga about lives of a group of otakus in a college club. Their lives revolve around everything Otakuish possible. And their talk is really otaku. Things that are otakus in this series consist of:

AND lots more like porn doujinshi, yaoi, porno games, akihabara which i didn't provide pictures for the sake of the length on my blog and my sloth of not wanting to find all these pictures. 

Well, this manga is still a slice of life with a little bit of romance. So if you're the type of person that only likes to read action and fantasy, this might not be for you. And there's are also a lot of references to Tiji-kun and other Japanese media, but I assure you I did not know about these before I started reading these too. Overall it's really amusing to read and the story develops really fast. I really recommend that you read it. It's a great way to kill time too. The only bad part is the author is a lazy fatass and it took her/him (idk the gender) 2 years to write chapter 57 which wasn't that great. o well, just read it

Blazin' a Review. Guest Writer James and Blazer Drive by Kishimoto Seishi

Sup Otakus, its James and I’m here to guest-review Blazer Drive. I can just hear your questions now. “But where’s d-bel? I like his stuff better.” The only response I can give you at this time is: You shut your whore mouth kid, and you might just learn something from Uncle James. Trust me, I know my stuff. Maybe this whole shindig can even be consensual.

Alright, let’s get one thing clear from the get-go. This story is fucking ridiculous. Even in terms of manga, I found myself arching an eyebrow at the backstory behind the world of Blazer Drive. Let’s see if I can conjure up an accurate summation of what exactly goes on in this world:

Frank: Hey Joe, I might be late to the party. Sorry about that.

Joe: What’s wrong, Frank? Bummed about the dumb owl movie?

Frank: Nah, I’m over it. I just can’t afford any gas for the car.

Joe: Oh, it’s cool buddy. You can just borrow a couple of my FUCKING ELECTRIC STICKERS.

Frank: COOL BEANS!

So, yeah. That's what happens. This world is a world completely powered, weaponized, and entertained by stickers with magical powers. And honestly? I love it. What happened to you Japan? Why have you gotten so jaded? What happened to your strokes of genius like Pokemon, Beyblade, and Yu-Gi-Oh? Sure, they came with their own games to back them up, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of simple imagination that kids can identify with. The simple joy of collecting them all is something that EVERY generation needs. And I applaud Blazer Drive and their Mystickers in doing just that.

Each Mysticker either has harnessed the power of either an (surprise, surprise) element or a weapon inside of it. Each Mysticker is categorized in its rarity and element. But here’s where it get’s interesting. Unbeknownst to the general public there are “Blazers” who can slap these stickers on like a nicotine patch and harness these powers for themselves. As a writer, he could have just stopped at the first level, but it always impresses me when someone adds another layer of depth into the main characters storyline.

Speaking of the main characters storyline, don’t look for any big changes to the basic format of “hero” here. Daichi is a ne’er do well kind of kid with his exasperated older brother trying to take care of him. When something happens to Ginga (his brother) and he finds out of his mysterious power, Daichi vows to defeat the evil Blazers. Not much, but at least it’s there.

So in summary, Blazer Drive is a fun and imaginative fantasy, the kind that manga just should be. There’s emotional points and plenty of levity to mix in there, but the core idea of these stickers is always the star.  The alliances and characters keep it fresh, and the stickers themselves open a gateway to a thousand possibilities. Just plain sexy. 

Practice safe sticking.

Well, this manga did amazingly well that they already made a game for it by the 4th chapter. YES, a game, not an anime. And because the story hasn't moved much yet, the main character of the game became Daichi's rival that you see maybe for 2 chapters every 20 chapters. Honestly, it looks boring. But when they make the anime, it'll do great.

GONNA BREAK YO' FACE. The Breaker by Jeon Gyeuk-Jin and Park Jin-Hwan

YuuP, a manhwa. What's a manhwa you say? It's a Korean manga. So you gotta read it from left to right. SO BREAKER. OH MY GAWD  BREAKER. I always saw this and never bothered reading it till a friend of mine recommended it to me. So I look at the cover for volume 8 down there and it looked really badass so i tried reading it. BUT O MY GAWD IT WAS AMAZING. The battles are really stylistic and intense and it gave me goosebumps (and an immense erection) while reading it.

So the plot. Well the plot starts out pretty trite. A young and weak school boy gets his ass kicked by bullies everyday and there's always one hot girl that encourages him to live on. One day, the main character (by the name of Sihoon) sees his English teacher going beserk on a group of guys that attacked him. And like anyone can figure, Sihoon asks the teacher to help him.

Well to continue with the plot, the teacher happened to be this legendary fighter called the Nine Arts Dragon. The Martial Arts Committee( or some sorta group of unusually asian looking grandpas) wants to kill him. And thus starting up conflicts. 

The battles in the manhwa is really well drawn. You can definitely see impact and tension. It really makes you wanna see what's going to happen next and also gives you that unconscious feeling of wanting to do what those guys are doing. Cause those martial arts guys are BAMFs. And who doesnt want to be a BAMF.

So anyways, you gus should definitely read it. The Breaker Volume 1-10 is actually the first part and the second part or season just started recently and its called The Breaker: New Wave. You know that feeling when you want to see the next chapter so bad and you dont even know when the next chapter's gonna come out and you scream like a bitch towards the sky? Thats how I felt few days ago.

Not your average fighting manga. READ IT.

Otomen by Kanno Aya (I feel like I can make a great pun for the title but I can't)

Well, I just started reading shoujo mangas and I actually liked some of them. It's not the matter of "girly" that never made me read shoujos before, but its the fact that most of them have the same plot lines. Energetic and clumsy girl falling in love with a mysterious and perfect guy and after few chapters the guy falls in love with the girl and they go out and the guy dies in the end. BUT OTOMEN IS DIFFERENT. Well first of all, cause the main character happened to be a guy. 

So Otomen. This manga is about a dude named Asuka Masamune. Really cool. Popular with the chicks and just almost perfect. But this kiddo has a secret. It's that he's actually an otomen, or simply a guy whose interested in girls' hobbies. And he just can't spill this secret because he's dad left his mom to get a sex change because he always wanted to be a woman.

So Masamune has a crush on this girl named Ryo Miyakozuka. She's like a complete opposite of Asuka since she's....well more manly and the whole story is about him and her's romance relationship as their friend whose a manga artist makes their relationship into a manga. 

Well this manga is actually pretty popular. If you already knew this then I think you should just go die, and if you found this series by reading my blog, then I will give you a pat on the head. Anyhow, this got so popular, it even got its own live action drama. 

Soo that's it. This was a pretty short post since I didn't over analyze this manga or anything. Goodnight fellas.

Karakuridouji Ultimo. West+East Collaboration

I love the style of art for mangas. The senseless crazy hairstyle with eyes that are bigger than half of the face. Still, it's getting really hard to find a really unique story these days. (Probably because there's a new series on the industry every five days). That's why I love American Comic Books. The story. Its amazing. (Despite the little lack of impact in movements in the art). So what's better? Uhh how about a combination of Easter style of art with a Western style of story. What's even better? Uhh the story is written by the co-founder of Marvel Stan Lee himself and the art is drawn by the artist of Shaman King, Takei Hiroyuki!!! WHATS EVEN MOAR F*CKING BETTER??!!! THE STORY IS AN ALL OUT WAR BETWEEN FLYING TIME TRAVELING ROBOTS!!!!!! AAAHHHH NERDGASM

The story is about a evil doctor from the future named Dustan (who awfully resembles Stan Lee), that creates two robots that serves as the paragon of ultimate justice and evil. Agari Yamato who is a samurai back in the old days is picked as Ultimo (The Good Robot)'s master. Time flies and Agari Yamato in the 21st century again finds Ultimo in an antique store and begins to recollect memories from his past life (i want to know what my past life was like. Probably a cruel dictator and a supporter of Communism in Soviet Union). Then he later finds out there's more than 2 robots and a massive war between the good and evil happens and the fate of time, space, and universe depends on this battle. VERY COMPLICATED. Well, too complicated to explain more lucidly in a paragraph. 

So do I recommend it? No shit, or it wouldn't be on here. I'll guarantee you that this story is something you have never encountered before (Not to mention the whole story just restarts itself around chapter 12. Like literally, the time space thingy just restarts. I thought the scanners made a mistake and I was reading chapter 1 again). And Takei does an amazing job at drawing a combination of antique and edo style of art with manga. Really gives you that Shaman King feeling back. 

I honestly don't get why this thing doesn't have an anime yet. Probably cause of the procrastinating personality of Takei. Seriously, this guy does a good job, but it takes him literally 20 billion years to finish something. (How long did it take Shaman King to end again? cause of that 3 year hiatus???). Lol jk, I love Takei. *fist bump brah*. Well instead, Stan Lee's other work, Heroman got an anime. I don't really like it....yet.

By the way, I got my Ultimo Volume 1 & 2 signed by Stan Lee. In yo face muhwahahahha

Right from the Start, Beelzebub by Tamura Ryūhei

Beelzebub is one of the best mangas I have ever read. Like ever. Unlike a dark sci-fi fantasy genre (Gantz, Fullmetal Alchemist) or a classic full throttle battle mangas (Dragonball Z, One Piece),  which always seems to get labeled as “the best” or “really good”, Beelzebub by Tamura Ryuhei uses a really good combination of both random and out of hand comedy with simple and amusing battles.

                The plot first of all is very random, yet very easy to follow. For me personally, it takes me about 3 or 4 chapters to get use to a series, but for this series, I was already laughing my yellow ass off by page 8.  Here’s a little bit of its randomness:

                The plot con-mothaf*cking-fusingly goes like this: Oga Tatsumi is the most evil and the strongest human being in the world. While he was beating the living pulp out of group of guys at a riverbank, Oga spots a heavily injured man floating down the river. When Oga drags him to the shore, the man split in half and pop came out a baby. As he is in a utter confused state, the baby’s demon wet nurse appears and informs him that the baby is the son of the Demon King and he must be the infant’s parent and destroy the world. Thus beginning this story.

                People might notice that it’s a little bit of a modern spin-off of old Japanese gangbanger mangas like Shounan Junai Gumi, but the battles are totally not tedious and one patterned and the mix of fantasy gives it a taste of eccentricity.

                Overall, I give this manga the highest merit I can give in my scale. That’s if I had a scale. I definitely recommend this manga if you are really bored or just looking for some laughs. BEELZEBUB IS AMAZING.
