Dude, it’s been a long rollercoaster of a year! So much has happened, and it seemed like it passed in a blink of an eye (and yet so long at the same time). Is this what getting old is?? For example, this picture. Was only at the beginning of the year! And yet it feels like forever ago! What!!
I started going through my photo roll of the last year, and all the pictures felt like so long ago. I have a lot of unposted pictures (and thoughts) about the past year, so I figured I’ll bring back the old tumblr to recap. And with the close of the decade coming, I have too many memories in my brain. I figured I need a long format blog type of thing to braindump into. IG is too short. A physical journal doesn’t allow pictures. But tumblr allows pictures, so here I am! Follow along as I relive the past through my pictures!
Let’s see....2019 started off with my favoritie DJ, Kaskade! No surprise that I’ve seen him so many times, he manages to evolve with the times and blend the old with the new so wonderfully. Reunited with the crew, and ran into some old friends in line to get in! Definitely starting to feel myself outgrowing the shows at this point, we couldn’t even hang until 2 am (which is when we bowed out).
Later that month was restaurant week, so I met up with my classmates to try Lao food in Oakland! This was The Saap Avenue on Piedmont, and all the food was delicious! I went back 2 more times later in the year (once with my coworkers, and once with John Yu). Definitely try the lao sausage and the rice ball salad :)
Me and John did went to E Tutto Qua for SF restaurant week. It’s really all too easy to keep defaulting to the same spots when we eat out, so restaurant week really is a great opportunity to try new places we wouldn’t otherwise. I remember the mushroom/truffle risotto and the panacotta were really good (so good that I even remember it 11 months later!).
We also made an effort to explore areas of the city we haven’t been to before. Can you believe that I had never been to Twin Peaks before this point? Seriously it is too easy to take the wonderful sights in SF for granted when you grew up here. With how uncertain it is to actually stay here as we get older and think about putting down roots, I decided to prioritize actually enjoying the city.
January was also a time of resolving to renew my interest in hobbies, especially with the end of my program in sight. I started practicing brush lettering again, learned how to emboss things using powder, and taking up baking again! The embossing was used to decorate my bullet journal for the new year (which, I gave up on in October since it ate too much into my limited time...I now use a passion planner). The lemon scones were baked for Lily’s retirement party at work; they were a hit with everyone!
And as my program’s end was in sight, we had a meeting in which we discussed the transition to becoming an actual employee of Kaiser. There was a transitional position called Extern, which we would become a temp employee and keep getting paid (minimum wage) while we waited for our licenses and positions to be posted. The whole thing was a surprisingly complicated process, which explains why a meeting was held to go over it. It was a great time to just chat with my classmates. Also they all were convinced John Yu would propose in Japan (they were wrong). They were so excited talking about it, that we disturbed a meeting next door and someone came over to shush us. Oops!
Also Garrett and Emerald were twinsies, unplanned. And baby G had a major change in appearance since the last time I saw him (more hipster now). Apparently that was the only picture I decided to take that day LOL.
Last thing that month was that I chopped off my dead ends, since Chinese New Year was coming up. Yet again, they chopped off too much. I asked for only an inch. ONE. INCH. The pictures show that it was more like 4 inches T-T.
That wraps up January! Like I said, it felt like so long ago. Reviewing the year definitely felt cathartic and puts everything in perspective. Especially with everything that’s happened this year, I want to document it! I felt like this year so many things Happened, but yet next year will have more changes to come :O
