Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) confirmed to Full Fact that an estimated 13.9 million trees were felled for wind farms on land that it managed (which is about 10% of Scotland’s land and one third of its forests).

But it also said that over the same period 272 million trees were planted in Scotland by all land managers (not just FLS). This number does not include replanting commercial trees that have been felled, and on average FLS plants 25 million trees per year of this type.

FLS added that, “To date, the amount of woodland removed across Scotland’s national forests and land (managed by FLS) for windfarm development is not even 1 per cent of the total woodland area managed by FLS.”

In the face of recent cases of violence against Indigenous peoples, human rights organizations have come together to demand urgent actions on the part of the state. “The escalation of violence against Indigenous peoples is extremely worrying,” warns the statement issued by the organizations. 

For more than a month, the Guarani-Kaiowá Indigenous people have been violently targeted by landowners in the Panambi-Lagoa Rica Indigenous Land, in the town of Douradina, Mato Grosso do Sul. In addition to physical attacks, the victims are the target of disinformation aimed at legitimizing the onslaught by people from the agribusiness sector, as revealed in a news story by Brazilian news outlet Agência Pública. In just one week in July, the states of Bahia, Ceará, Paraná, and Rio Grande do Sul also recorded attacks against Indigenous people.

For the document's signatories, the legal insecurity to which Indigenous peoples are subjected is responsible for the escalation of attacks. In September 2023, the Supreme Court (STF, in Portuguese) recognized the territorial rights of Indigenous peoples as a permanent clause of the Constitution, rendering the Time Frame Law argument (Marco temporal, in Portuguese) ineffective. In response, the National Congress approved law 14.701, which determines that Indigenous peoples only have the right to the lands they were occupying from October 5, 1988 onwards. In August 2024, the issue returned to the Supreme Court, now for a conciliation between the parties – Indigenous peoples and large land owners – proposed by Justice Gilmar Mendes.

Having to remake this post because everything is garbage-ass. Most likely will not be signing my contract until September, which means we'll behind on rent for another month, putting us FOUR MONTHS behind on rent. Our landlord is being super patient with us, but there's only so much he can do, and I'm absolutely NAUSEOUS at the thought of being homeless again.

hi! so I'm yah yah, those people in the picture are my parents and we're this close to losing our house and being homeless again because we're two months behind on rent. we're all disabled, but we all work, but it's not quite enough to make the rent. because of a few medical emergencies and a death in the family back in March, we've been unable to catch up with anything. so! if possible, I'm asking for help for the two months of back rent owed!

i'm upping the goal from $3,000 to $6,600. If you can give anything, please, please do. We stalled out a month ago at $1, 186, but of course, absolutely all that money is gone to bill and incremental (like less than $500) rent payments.
