This song just reminds me of depression. Of how it makes everything feel worthless and not worth caring about. How everything can look so beautiful, but it feels mundane.

I think this just shows the speaker's (assuming Thom is playing a character) point of view of how he hates where he is, how he's realizing that no matter how pretty it is, he can't be happy where he is.
