Did the strike do any good in the range of things? I'm a part time uber/Lyft driver in Augusta ga USA, the rates here suck in the end but money is money... But did the strike actually do anything?

Hey! So I’m definitely not an expert in this area (my post getting that many notes was a surprise to me) so take everything with a grain of salt here. The short answer is - its a little too early to tell. The next steps in a strike arent usually very visibile to the public, and we won’t know until after how the ride share apps plan to respond, if at all.

The long answer is - maybe. In my area at least it seems like not enough drivers participated in the strike for it to be jaw-droppingly effective, which is pretty standard for non-union and early-days striking. Some light googling suggests that’s true in a lot of places, but theres not a lot of in-depth reporting on this yet. For uber at least, the strike was planned on May 8th to affect their upcoming IPO. Uber was hoping for 9 billion but didn’t succeeded, only raising about 8.1; Bloomberg referred to it as “priced near the bottom range.” How much the strike impacted that I have no idea, since there’s a lot of factors at play in stock prices, but it definitely can’t have helped.

Again, not an expert, but this feels to me as the first step in a long process. The striking drivers need to better figure out their message (a few articles quoted strikers saying wildly different and occasionally contradictory things from one another) and better publicize their strikes (a lot of folks commented on my post saying “I had no idea!”). Continue organizing and keep trying.

a man who, when he saw the haunted looking airbnb i was getting dropped off at, offered to drive me to a hampton inn instead lol, and when i said no, looked me gravely in the eye and said “please don’t die”

Absolutely crazy that Uber drivers take £5 home an hour after costs

Strikes across 4 UK cities in protest against the poor pay and massive corporate salaries today.

It’s unfortunate that Uber with it’s massive losses and poor employee satisfaction still pay a fortune to their top people. Additionally, it puts other companies out of business who have trained and professional staff that require significantly more time and effort to become qualified as a taxi driver. Meanwhile Uber has very few barriers to entry

Yes I am an uber/Lyft driver in the Augusta Ga area

Dont think I have to have lit up signs on my car but it does wonders for people to find and identify you as an Uber. Think it should be mandatory especially at night. Would be nice if more people would tip as well, I do it for the riders, makes it easier for the crowd... my car at night looks more like a spaceship than a car lol save for the white car and black tires. There are lyft/uber lit up dome lights on the top front, top back (I rewired them into one 12v plug and after ordering the white dome lights replaced the original lights with 2 green strip LEDs for uber and 2 strip LEDs pink for Lyft so they are nice and bright in each dome light) and also run front back and side under car neons led lights so the car eccentrically glows at night. Also have illuminated lyft/uber lights on the front and back windows so u if u are the rider can easily find me as ur ride.

Think if more drivers went the extra mile to identify themselves bad things wouldn't happen to people misidentifying their rides. That being said would b equally nice if riders would tip something, even comment they find this helpful, given the driver(currently) doesn't have to have these identifying markers. I try and go the extra mile making my car clean and smelling nice, no smoking in the car I dont mind vaping long as a window is cracked and am asked, but providing a nice comfortable ride should be appreciated. I read all the bad jokes and complaints on here and Facebook all the time it could be much worse, and if people would show a lil appreciation for those drivers that do car about ur wellbeing and finding ur ride it would go a long way.

Another thing I think Lyft and Uber as a company should give out lighted dome lights to drivers signing up as drivers or an illuminated window sign that is easily recognizable from a distance when starting out. I do it and have done it from the start cause I'm like if I was a rider what would I like my ride to be like and how much easier would it be to find my ride. J/S.

But to reiterate it one more time, appreciation being commenting on a nice ride positive feedback on a job well done goes a long way, and 1$ or more tips from everyone that rides would be awesome.

As an Uber / Lyft driver, ( most riders dont know) we get payed a fraction of the cost of the ride u might pay 10 to 20$ for the ride but the driver only sees 3 to 8$ of that fare, the company takes the larger fee in booking/service charges, so tips go a long way. So please if u uber or Lyft ride please show ur drivers a lil more or at least some appreciation for their service to you.
