Background for those who don’t understand: the Appalachian mountain region in the United States is basically the most poverty stricken region in the country, and has been for probably well over a century. Communities in the mountains (vast majority being white) have been reduced as nothing more than “hillbillies”. While it’s often thought of as a joke, the reality is that many of the families living in this region can’t even afford to put food on the table, can’t afford to feed their children, can’t afford even basic healthcare, and can’t afford education. That is not funny. To call these people by any means privileged is really ignorant, but would you expect anything less from leftist SJW’s?

And none of those people generally have the same access to social programs and opportunities that any urban poor people may have simply due to geographic difficulties. For many people, the only opportunities available are provided by the church and family… and you wonder why these people tend to be very religious and cling to their heritage.

Why is there camo everything? Because these people have either hunted to survive in recent generations or currently are hunting to survive and they’ve found a way to be proud of it and make it part of their identity. But have I still seen people I’ve been friends with ceaselessly make fun of a family in all camo in Walmart despite the fact they obviously could barely afford to buy diapers and formula for their baby? Yes I have and it’s disgusting.

my mom told me a story about when she was waitressing in Asheville. she said once a week, a hillbilly family would come down to where she worked. they didn’t have shoes and the parents couldn’t read. they’d order the cheapest food they could and then leave. she also knew a family who lived in a school bus and took showers at school because they were so poor. both families were white. white privilege my ass
