AU Idea:

Mary’s alive, but John died in a car accident.  Dean and Sam were in the car with him, he was driving them home from a baseball game.  Sam was fine, but Dean nearly didn’t survive because his throat got all sliced up.  The doctors did their best with surgery, but Dean’s lost his ability to speak in more than a whisper, and most of the time he doesn’t bother.  

Anyway, he and Sam grow up fine, and Dean works in Mary’s flower shop when he grows up.  He wants to take over the shop someday when Mary retires.

A handsome blue eye’d man comes in looking stressed and ruffled and asks Dean to help him get flowers for his mother.  He seems to agitated to notice that Dean’s completely quiet while he’s telling the story about how he’s been so busy at the career she nagged him into that he forgot her birthday, and she’ll make his life miserable if he doesn’t make it up to her.  Dean listens intently as he starts pulling together flowers, building a boquet that basically says “I’m sorry” and “I love you” because he can tell by the warmth in the man’s voice that he’s truly upset about disappointing her because he cares about her.  He rings up the flowers, and gives a smile and a wave when the man pauses on his way out the door to thank him for his work.

Dean doesn’t ever expect to see him again, but the man comes back the next week.  This time he wants to get something for his secretary since she’s out on maternity leave. He’s quieter this time, just talking fondly of her and how happy he is for her.  Dean adds a little green balloon with  “congrats!” printed on it to the arrangement this time.

It becomes a regular weekly occurrence, and over time the man introduces himself as Castiel and Dean’s able to communicate that talking really isn’t his thing.  Castiel doesn’t seem to mind, though.  He always asks Dean how his day is going, and smiles brightly when all he gets is a thumbs up or an eyeroll in response.

Anyway, of course Dean decides to ask him out by sending him a bouquet.  Every flower has meaning and that makes his mother’s eyes sparkle when she sees him putting it together, but he sticks his tongue out at her and writes out a card just in case Castiel doesn’t figure it out on his own.

Castiel responds by buying a single red rose, and then handing it back over the counter to Dean.

Dean catches the twitch of the stranger’s lips and feels like his heart could beat out of his chest. It’s not often he gets this nervous, but those eyes, that smile…

Christ.

“So, what makes you think it’ll work on me?” the guy asks softly, his cheeks a little pink.

Dean blinks. Was this guy serious? “Well, uh, I mean… Have you seen you?”

That gets a blush, full and unmistakable, and Dean will literally kick himself if he doesn’t his number. “Look, I um… I know I’m being forward, and if you tell me to fuck off, I will but-”

“But if I don’t?”

Oh, Dean’s a goner. He glances at the coffee already on the table, then meets the guy’s gaze. “Can I take you to dinner?”

(Came through for a study break but this was too cute. (Thanks, @angvlicmish​​!) To the surprise of absolutely no one, Dean is blushy and sweet and Cas is charmed. Their first date that night is at a tiny Italian restaurant, and a few weeks later, Dean shows up at the coffee shop in sweats to bring back coffee for Cas, who’s still asleep. They also frequent the coffee shop on future dates, and sometimes when Dean arrives after Cas, he goes up to his boyfriend and drops a pick up line. His favorite is “Babe, I love you a-latte.” because he’s a gigantic nerd who loves his man.)

dean and cas are roommates who go to a hockey game together (rooting for opposite teams). when the kiss cam starts up and the first pair on screen refuse to kiss, dean (who’s been majorly pining for years) turns to cas and says “i would kiss you, if they put it on us”

Meanwhile, Cas is too caught off guard to respond, even though he should say something. Anything. Dean has literally given him his chance on a silver platter. But he’s too stunned and the moment passes and he thinks he laughs it off but can’t even hear himself over the roaring in his ears. He also thinks he sees Dean’s face fall a little, though that just might be his imagination.

Dean’s team loses (1 to 4), which honestly surprises both of them because Cas’ team is just… not good. And any other day, Cas would tease Dean to his heart’s content, but something shifted between them during the Kiss Cam and they’re both silent in the Uber headed home.

Cas replays the moment, over and over, and the more he does, the more details he remembers. Like the shy, cautious hope in Dean’s wide eyes and the hint of pink that colored his face. So, when they’re back in their apartment and Dean turns to him tiredly and says, “I, um… I… Night, Cas,” Cas thinks ‘Fuck it’ and walks up to Dean and cradles his face and kisses him right there.

And surprise is a good look on Dean, all parted lips and gorgeous, flushed cheeks. It’s Cas’ turn to speak and he doesn’t mess up this time.

“You don’t need a Kiss Cam to kiss me, Dean.”

This was inspired by the two friends who were sitting behind me and @preciousmish​ at the game tonight. To the one bro who is clearly pining: we hope your love is reciprocated and you get many Soft™ kisses. xo

Charlie glanced up from her biology book as she watched the two part ways down the hall, rolling her eyes at the half dozen or so people they’d managed to get to stare after them in concern. 

“What happened?” Garth whispered, leaning in close. “Why are they fighting?”

Charlie sighed and tucked her bookmark into the pages. 

“They’re not. That’s just where they meet to make out.”

“Then why did they -”

“They’re dramatic, Garth.”

“When did that Cas-whatever guy say he was coming?”

Dean was standing in the doorway to his recently moved in room, trying to figure out how someone had managed to jam the key so far into the lock that it seemed impossible to twist it back out. He was sorely tempted to immerse himself in a few calculations evaluating the necessary force, angle and dedication applied by the person who must have obviously held a personal vendetta against the poor safety device, when Benny walked by, a box of nails and a hammer in his hands. Dean snapped his eyes away from their close inspection of the lock and turned to face Benny, who had come to a stop with a long-suffering expression peaking out from underneath his winter break beard.

“Brother, I told you this how many times already? His name’s Castiel and he plans on arriving around six. That’s in about ten minutes.”

Benny moved further down the hallway before turning around with a smirk. “I also told him we’d help with his boxes and the ah-“ A raised eyebrow. “Cage for his tortoise.”

“His tortoise? Isn’t that the same as a turtle?” Seeing that Benny made to open his mouth, Dean continued quickly. “Actually, never mind, how come I wasn’t informed our new roommate has a reptile pet?”

Benny snorted and walked on into his room, speaking back over his shoulder. Seriously, Dean was fifty percent of the decision-making committee here and a pet should warrant mentioning. Even though turtles were pretty hilarious with their sturdy little legs and wiggle-y walk, not that he’d ever admit to that out loud. Benny would probably crack a rib laughing at him.
