hello!!! i'm not in the culture culture space at all however i'm needing some bones to do a still life drawing for college, how would i go about cleaning up some chicken bones? i was going to buy a whole chicken and debone it and take it from there? thank you!!!

Aaahh thank you for asking me of all people 😭 I'm not a professional, so please do more research, but I can definitely get you started!! :D

If you're going to debone something, you might want to mascerate it (let the organic material rot away) to make sure you don't have anything left. Even after that, I would recommend de-greasing so that your bones are 100% clean and won't decolor over time ^^

If you want your bones to be lighter in color, after the previous steps, the easiest way to bleach them is sun-bleaching, but if you want something stronger, hydrogen peroxide is a good choice! It's easiest to get 2% or 3% (can't remember 😭) for a few bucks, but you can get up to about 14% in hair developer!

NEVER, EVER, USE REAL BLEACH OR BOIL BONES!! It will compromise the structure of them, and your bones will yellow and deteriorate over time!

I've found it kind of hard to find good resources for vulture culture on google, so I recommend looking more at tumblr or reddit :D I also don't have any experience with maceration or similar decomposing, but I'm sure there are many, many resources on that.
