It was one of those nights. They were happening far more frequently lately.
In the wee hours of the morning, where the darkness still clung to the earth like a shroud, there you lay in bed unfortunately wide awake. Sleep dangling like a lure attached to the end of a fishing line. Just out of reach, but oh so enticing. No matter how you tried. Even laying there with your eyes shut, your body flat out refused.
You heaved a disheartened sigh, thin and shallow, so as not to disturb Remmick. Beside you the vampire was resting in a state that mimicked sleep. Peaceful as he lay next to you. Even you couldn’t call what he was doing sleep. It was close enough given his nature. It was more of a hibernation. Almost making your blood boil with how easy it was for him to just lie down, close his eyes, and be lost to the world.
As you looked at him—studying that pale handsome face—in the dark room you huffed with jealousy. So, you tried again. Rolling onto your side, curling into yourself, you squeezed yours eyes shut.
Dead silence accompanied the next few strands of minutes that passed. As you lay there, focusing on your breathing—a trick Remmick had taught you once—with nothing but your inner thoughts, the noise became too loud. Deafening. It was too late. You had reached the restless stage and sleep decided to go on hiatus.
You let out a longer frustrated sigh this time. It’s pointless. You told yourself. Being careful, you slipped out from the bed and made your way over to the small book nook area within the bedroom. A small alcove with a bay window surrounded by both sides with bookshelves built into the wall. A beautiful little area. Drawing back the curtain, allowing some of the soft pale moonlight to filter in you took a seat. You figured you might as well read. The night was going to be a long one.
At random you plucked a book from a nearby shelf. The hard cover faded from multiple readings. This was a tactic—one among many tricks to get the body to settle. To relax. Sometimes it worked. Ending up dozing off, book splayed open in your lap to a random page. There was one constant, however. The few times you did fall asleep, tucked away in your little hovel, you never woke up there. Never even a hint of stiffness that was sure to ache your body from the position you sat in. Never even waking up in the nook itself. You would wake up neatly tucked into bed.
Remmick’s doing.
Most nights he rarely stirred. Or pretended not to for your sake. But on the nights like this… he would find you, eventually, asleep in some random place in the house. He would pick up your sleeping form and bring you back to bed. A tender sweet gesture. And because of his supernatural strength moving you was as easy as breathing. Well that was… if he breathed.
Your mind got sidetracked from the initial task of ‘reading’ and now was looping one string of thought over another, as if wound around a spool.
Overthinking.
Your face plunked against the book with a groan. This wasn’t helping. You were supposed to be attempting to relax. Attempting, being the strong word.
The combination of noises you produced was enough to wake him. Movements subtle, he slowly opened his eyes. A dim red glow emanated from his pupils as his eyes focused. He scanned the bed first instinctively. Hand gliding smoothly over the cooling sheets where your warm body had been. Where it should be. The bed growing colder from the absence.
Remmick sensed it. That restless energy. His features softened, brows turning upwards with tender concern. Lifting his head from the pillow he eventually saw you, tucked in a ball in the corner. Your head still lightly tapping the page of the book. Another groan from you was enough to let him know this wasn’t just a normal restless night. He knew once that mind of yours started it became a never-ending spin on the Ferris Wheel. Thoughts layered upon more thoughts. Spiraling towards oblivion.
A muffled huff fell into the center binding of the pages. Whatever was on your mind, he deemed, could wait. At least for a few hours and after some much needed sleep.
Good at keeping quiet—a trait born in the predator of the beast that lived inside—Remmick had already slid from the bed. Sheets falling off him smoothly like silk. Bare feet moved in silent steps as he made his way to you.
You were muttering lowly into the book. Something he couldn’t quite catch even with his enhanced hearing. His nostrils filled with your scent. It seemed different tonight. Wreaking of self-loathing and growing resentment.
Remmick gently took up position opposite you. Standing arms crossed over his broad chest as he leaned against one of the bookshelves. He didn’t want to spook you. It happened on accident once on another occasion and he had learned a lesson. So, he softly cleared his throat.
Shit.
You froze mid-mumble. The sound distinct holding weight behind such a simple everyday noise. But when he did it there was purpose. Used to get your attention, he cleared his throat again, making sure you heard him. Reluctantly, you raised your head. Eyes drifting upwards. At first, you saw only the red glow from his eyes. Those eyes. Pretty yet dangerous at the same time. You could tell he was still halfway between being fully awake and the twilight he kept himself in. Then he moved. Just a couple of steps and he softly crouched next to you. So that he was the one looking up at you and not vice versa.
Damn. How stupid could you be. Not only was your sleep not happening. You had interrupted his.
Biting down on your lip you watched as he slowly reached over taking the book away from your hands, closed it, and set it aside on the small space by your feet. Next he took your hands into his.
Biting your lip harder you wondered what he was doing. Each movement slow and soft, heavy with care. Remmick had never hurt you, so you were unsure where this new worry came from. Holding your hand in his, his other hand placed on top gently petting the skin. Then his red eyes flicked back to yours.
“Got a lot on your mind darlin’? Can almost hear them thoughts from down here.” His accent and calm tone always made you swoon. Those eyes of his searched yours. As if he could see every worry as it past—like a catalog of old newspapers flashing on a library archive. “S’alright.” His hand gave yours a soft squeeze. “If ya want I can try to help ya sleep.” He offered.
You weren’t sure how he could help. Frankly you weren’t really up for any kind of intimacy. “Rem…I… I’m not… not in the mood.”
Remmick shook his head. “S’not what I meant, love.” His other hand, the one on top of yours gave it a few more pats. “Plenty o’ time. On another night for that. Nah, m’talkin’ ‘bout actual sleepin’. Somethin’ ya need.”
You scrunched your eyebrows still unsure, but the soft gaze lingered waiting for an answer, made you trust him. So, with a subtle nod you agreed. “Yeah.” Gods knew you needed sleep. What you needed more was your brain to settle down. To hush the constant thoughts. The constant worry.
Bringing your knuckles to his lips he pressed a gentle loving kiss. Then he started to hum. Low, soothing, rumbling from his throat and chest. He became a personal music box, playing a tune unknown to you. The effect is a slow build, but instant. The hum resonated. Musical notes visible suddenly in your mind’s eyes, swirling overhead. It was a fantastic illusion born of ancient power mixed with vampiric amplification. Though being turned centuries ago his original art wasn’t truly lost. Now he is using it to help you.
Calm washed over you. His humming steadily lulling you. He was standing before you knew it. Hand still clasped in yours. Patient as he watched how you began to sway lightly. You found yourself rising to your feet.
Remmick smiled tenderly, his humming turning fully into singing. In a language you’ve only heard from him very rarely. The southern drawl turning into a Gaelic lilt:
🎵 Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
A chuid den tsaol, 's a ghrá liom
Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
Agus gheobhair feirín amárach🎵
Your head tilts slightly as you listened to him sing, feet moving on their own as he guides you back towards the bed. The words caress your body and flow through your mind. They are sweet even if you didn’t understand what he was saying. The magic behind them was clear and effective. Standing at the edge of the bed, he was right next to you drawing you to his side, arm wrapped around your waist, hand still holding yours. Smiling at you as you lazily gazed at him.
🎵 Tá do dheaid ag teacht gan mhoill ón chnoc
Agus cearca fraoich ar láimh leis
Agus codlaidh go ciúin 'do luí sa choid
Agus gheobhair feirín amárach 🎵
As he sang your eyes began to grow heavy, limbs feeling like lead. A warmth embraced you. Gently he sat you down on the edge of the bed, never missing a beat. Effortless in his movements. Urging you to lie down. Your head softly fell back into the awaiting pillow. You felt like you were floating. Eye lids drooping as you fought to keep them open. You wanted to keep looking at him. To keep listening to the beautiful sound his voice made.
Once you were situated, he leaned over planting a light kiss to your forehead before walking around to the other side of the bed and climbed back in. Still singing:
🎵 Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
A chuid den tsaol, 's a ghrá liom
Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
Agus gheobhair feirín amárach
Tá an samhradh ag teacht le grian is le teas
Agus duilliúr ghlas ar phrátaí
Tá an ghaoth ag teacht go fial aneas
Agus gheobhaimid iasc amárach 🎵
Remmick slides up next to you, cool body pressing up against yours. You can barely stay awake now. All worries, all thoughts had been silenced miraculously. Wiped away by the soothing hum of his song. The only thing you can do is slowly turn your head towards him. Which was a sluggish task.
His strong loving arms pull you close, hand brushing strands of hair from your face. Fingers threading individually. Instinctually you curled up in his arms, head tucked under his chin, eyelids fluttering forcing closed by the power of his song.
🎵 Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
A chuid den tsaol, 's a ghrá liom
Dún do shúil, a rún mo chroí
Agus gheobhair feirín amárach🎵
The lyrics fade out and the low hum returns as he keeps up the rhythm. You are pressed against him. Head buried in his chest, arms tucked in front of you. His head lay on top of yours, wrapping his arms tighter around you. A ghost of a breath brushes his skin as you fall deeper into sleep. The light beat of your heart tells him you are finally at rest. The steadiness of your breathing mellows as you drift away to whatever dreams await you.
Once Remmick’s certain you’re deep in slumber he stops humming, faint smile curling on his lips.
“Sleep well darlin’. The cares an’ worries o’ tomorrow can wait. Rest.” He whispers as he holds you close.
What happens if you try to enter a dwelling uninvited? What if there's no one home, is it fair game then?
I hope you've had a wonderful day/evening ^-^
"Hmph. Sure, I learned that lesson a good many years back, aye. And I won't be tryin' that again, not at all. A damn painful experience it was. The hunger got the better of me one night, and I wandered to a house. Set me insides ablaze something fierce. Pressin' against a force, invisible as could be, but as strong as any wall ye ever did see. Such pressure, God almighty. But I broke through. It's all a blur after that. When it comes to no one bein' home, the fact remains the same, clear as day. The house still belongs to someone, ya see."
"'Tis hopin' yer evenin's grand as well, so it is. An' may the road rise to meet us, aye."
Oh Remmick, darling, I'd like a good deal more than a nip from you. And I've seen you dance and sing all the night. I suspect you have the stamina for a lot more than a jig. I'm a willing dance partner for that as well.
*She steps closer, smiling coyly*
What do you say, darling? Your fangs are showing. Are you wondering how I taste?
Yours Truly,
The Forest Witch
He gives a sheepish grin. Eyes not leaving yours. "Well now, seems you've been givin' me the ol' once-over, eh? Aye, I can go the whole bleedin' night if the spirit moves me. And if ye want me to sink me teeth in, just say the word, darlin'." At the mention of his fangs his tongue glides over the tips within his mouth. Then he swallows. "I'd wager ye taste somethin' fierce grand, delicious."
I have yet to make your acquaintance in person, though I've heard tell of you plenty (and I know what you are, darling, so don't play coy).
My village has cast me out as a witch, you see, for being too odd, too bookish, too keen to dance freely (as they deem unbecoming). I live in that solitary cottage in the forest, and it is bitterly lonesome here.
I welcome you to visit me, make a meal of me, even, for this existence is no real life at all and if it ends, it ends. I surrender preemptively. Please, just sing me a beautiful song first, tell me a good story, let me dance for you...with you.
And finally, please don't bite too hard. The world has already torn me to pieces. I could use the gentleness.
Yours Truly,
The Forest Witch
"Top o' the mornin' to ye, young one. Good to be meetin' ye proper."
A sly grin crosses his face.
"Nothin' gets by ye, does it? 'Tisn't every day me reputation goes ahead o' me. Glad I don't have to be dancin' around the truth, so I am."
He tilts his head as you continue your tale. Listening, eyes staring intently.
"A witch, ye say? Well, now, isn't that somethin'. Usually, yer lot ain't too fond o' creatures like meself, but here ye are, offerin' fellowship. Open-minded and an open door, how could a fella refuse? Folks tend to treat the unknown and the free spirits with a right disdain and fear. Rude, frankly. Expressin' yerself as ye see fit shouldn't be met with scorn. I'd be pleased as punch ta join ye for a bit. Share a moment, or an eternity if ye'd fancy. Jus' pick the tune, and I'll sing like a lark for ye. Dance 'til the sun peeks over the horizon. Only nip ye if that's somethin' yer after..."
He states, eyes softening welcoming and understanding.
This is probably a dumb question to ask a vampire, but...
Is there like a favorite blood type amongst you guys? Like the whole A type, B type, and all that? Like does it taste the same or does it like vary from one person to the next?
Again, probably dumb or you've probably already answered but im a new follower so...also favorite crystal and why? Mines rose quartz, but blue goldstone is a very close second ^^
"There's no such thing as a daft question. I'm all for the grand variety, meself. Adds a wee bit o' spice to life. Well now, let's be havin' a look. Blood's blood, sure enough. But the rarer the better, I always say. So, an A or a B, or a bit o' both, maybe? But it all tastes grand. I will say this though. Some blood's gone rotten, like. Especially if the poor soul's ailin'. The best stuff comes from frightened prey. Racin', warm, now that'll make a vampire purr like a kitten, so it will."
He rubs at his chin, fangs out, eyes red the more he thinks about it. Drool gathers at the corner of his mouth as he continues.
"Crystals, ye say? Hmm. Not so sure 'bout a crystal, but I'm lovin' the limestone. Holds mythical properties from the ancient times. Jus' like any mineral, stone, rock, or crystal, t'is tellin' a story o' the land that came before. And, sure, as clichéd as it is, things with green, they catch me eye."
"Having fun with your fangs…I mean, fans?"They ask with an amused lilt. "Can't say as I blame them. You are rather easy on the eyes."
"Havin' a grand aul' time, I am. Thanks for askin', so ye did. A whole swarm o' new faces givin' me all the attention a bleedin' vampire could ever be wantin'."
Oh I don't know... *I take your free hand in mine and, rather boldly, kiss you*
He watches silently as your lips press against his cold skin. If he had the need to breathe his breath might have hitched. "Blast it, darlin'. Yer more than just a wee tease, ye are... a right tempter, ye are! Bold as brass..."
The other day I mentioned a secret project I was working on. Well here it is. It's still being worked on of course, but I have a couple images to tease y'all with. 😈🤫🤭
(Image teaser down below)
Once completed there will be a proper photoshoot. So stay tuned.
Me? Teasing? Why I'd never! *shyly tilts my head just a bit to expose my neck to you* I'm sorry, Master...
He returns a sly smirk, the edge of his sharp fang peeking out from under his lip. "Ah, ye little devil ye, teasin' me now, are ye? 'Tisn't right at all."
He steps closer. Red eyes of his shining bright slowly tracing over the expose skin of your neck. "Arrah, if I didn't know better, I'd be sayin' ye're at it right now, as a matter o' fact." His eyes flick up to yours a hungry glint gleaming in the red irises. His hand comes up gently grabbing your neck, thumb gently tracing over a vein pulsing there. "Begorrah, ye should be sorry. What in the blazes am I gonna do with the likes o' you, eh?"
Uhh thoughts on garlic 😛😛 ily pookie come in my house
He raises an eyebrow at you, sheer amusement written on his face. "Now ye know rightly what I think o' garlic. How could ye be askin' a vampire about the likes o' that, at all?" He chuckles. "I'm bleedin' allergic to the damn thing. Burns somethin' fierce, it does. Won't kill me, mind ye, but I tend not to be botherin' with the stuff." With a bright smile spreading across his face he tilts his head. "Will ye be lookin' at that now, invitin' me in, just like that? Aren't you the sweetest. Don' mind if I do."
Remmick, my moon and stars, the very song to my soul, love of my life... I am BEGGING YOU to let me have a moment of peace (unless you want to put a ring on my finger then I won't say no-)
"Ah, first you're butterin' me up with words so sweet, then ye're askin' for a bit o' peace. Which is it, darlin'? Is it truly rid o' me ye want, or are ye just teasin' a poor creature like meself."
🎶 Do you ever wonder why. Time is always passing by. Like stars in the night. Even though we're growing old. Everything that I've been told. My inner child is screaming now. And deep down somewhere inside.
I've been holding on to something. Time moves slow, nights were long, days were golden. I've been holding on to something. In my mind, baby, those were the days of our lives. Like dominoes we fall like we're broken. But in the end we'll know when it's over. I've been holding onto something. In my mind, baby, those were the days of our lives.
Those were the days of our lives.
I just wanna press rewind. Neon lights and purple skies. Go back to the start. Chasing all these memories. In paradise, just you and me. I take your hand, look in your eyes. And hold you close just one more time.
I've been holding on to something. Time moves slow, nights were long, days were golden. I've been holding on to something. In my mind, baby, those were the days of our lives.
