So… I’ve been trying to animate 😮 I’m not finished, but I wanted to make a post of my progress!
I’m working on this idea for a Tav and Durge video that definitely needed actual animation. I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing, so I’ve kind of been making it up as I go. 😅😂
^ This is where I started. I tried rotoscoping, but it just kinda lost its liveliness/looked funny. But without rotoscoping, I was struggling to get the timing right. So instead, I rotoscoped just this little skeleton reference and drew on top of that.
^ After drawing a rough sketch of the character over all the little skeletal references, I got really stuck for a minute. I was happy with where it was going, but I wasn’t totally sure how to move forward. I decided to go with the part that I was most nervous for haha and get that out of the way.
Which was the face lol.
And this is where I’m at so far!! I want to fix the expressions so they flow together a little better, but I’m really happy with how it’s going!

Wyll is rather too well-adjusted and emotionally stable given the horrible shit that's happened to him. On the one hand, that kind of emotional maturity is incredibly sexy. On the other... when surrounded by the other companions and all their BIG EMOTIONS, it's easy for him to get lost in the shuffle.
He reminds me a bit of Carrot from the Discworld series: someone who seems simple— which is not to say stupid— but someone you can take at face value. It makes people characterize them as naive when that's really not the case. They're happy with themselves as they are. They're happy being good. And that kind of quiet confidence is hot.
The artist did a GREAT job conveying this characterization. Confidence, tenderness, all of it.
I should probably go find a good fan fic of Wyll 🤔
There was a lot of tweaking the pose and facial expressions to try and convey the vibes I was aiming for!! It’s nice to hear that it’s coming across the way I hoped!
And I absolutely agree that Wyll’s confidence and emotional maturity is so sexy.
Reading your thoughts on Wyll has me thinking about some of my own, so hopefully it’s ok if I ramble a moment. 😅
I think one of his most defining traits and greatest strengths is also perhaps a “fatal flaw”: his constant self sacrifice. And at the same time, I don’t know if it’s something that he would ever change or something he should have to change.
Like, it’s not a problem because it’s wrong, it’s a problem because he’s been isolated.
I wish we could have had more of his story in game, but sometimes I think about how, for Wyll, maybe the story isn’t about changing who he is, it’s about changing who’s around him. When you have other people looking out for you, willing to make sacrifices with you, able to pull you back when you’re sacrificing too much, that “fatal flaw” of self sacrifice stops being a flaw at all. Idk, maybe that read is not fully supported by what’s present in the game, but it’s definitely something that comes to mind when I think of Wyll as a character.
Anyways, my thoughts always feel a mess, but I love drawing Wyll and thinking about him lol! I probably need to go find a good Wyll fanfic myself haha.
Playing around with clothing ideas for my Tav (Briar). The last image is camp clothes/underclothes, which is generally what I’ve been drawing her in. She’s a wild magic sorcerer, so I keep trying to stick her in robes, but idk if she’d like robes… I imagine her as caring a lot about how she looks haha.
Anyways, if anyone has thoughts, feel free to share, I’m stumped lol. 😅💜
