Since I’ve seen some of my mutuals reblogging this, I thought it’d be best to be upfront about my experiences with the exchange blog (@deathnotegiftexchange-r18 formerly known as @secretshinigami-r18)

As you’ve noticed, I can’t tag them. That’s because they called me a slur and blocked me! I don’t normally share private conversations and I’ve never made any sort of actual call out before, but I think this person and what they’re doing is toxic and since they blocked me I have no way to continue to try and work it out civilly. 

I’m sure you’re all wondering ‘how did I get to this point’? 

Well they asked me to promote their exchange, and when I went to go check them out I noticed that not only were they being quite mean to the mods of @secretshinigami, but they’d also managed to bash that exchange so much while simultaneously stealing all their content. 

On the left is secret shinigami, the right is the new exchange. You might notice they look almost the same? That’s because they are. Including the spacing of “S U B M I S S I O N” ! Wild. 

I responded to them asking me to promote it by saying “no thanks!” and then sending this message:

That’s when they got wildly defensive, called me r*tarded, and then changed their name anyway because there was no way to pretend they didn’t just steal secret shinigami’s name LMAO. 

Anyway, feel free to still participate in this exchange anyway, but just know whoever is running it isn’t a very nice person and is also running this in a not-super-ethical way. 

So if people were getting excited at the possibility of an NSFW exchange, that’s super neat! I agree it’d be a fun thing to have! I would just recommend that someone else head it up and do it in a way that doesn’t tear down something that already exists. It doesn’t have to be a competition. You can create new things without having to convince everyone the old things were bad.

Nobody else needs to “head it up”, this exchange already exists. And to be frank, Secret Shinigami needs to fuck off entirely and stop trying to be the ‘mothers’ of the fandom as if we all need to be shielded from content that’s literally already in the show we all watched and loved. They don’t own gift exchanges, they don’t own Death Note, and they need to stop telling us that writing edgy or NSFW content is somehow “bad”.
