my biggest shane hollander headcanon is that he was a crier as a baby, like VERY easily upset, constantly overstimulated, cried when frustrated, but as he grew up, his surroundings really conditioned him into thinking crying was weak, that it wasn’t normal for him to cry this much.

so he masks. he doesn’t cry as much as he probably should. he bottles it up because if the tears don’t fall then it’s not crying and that means he’s strong.

the first time he truly cries himself out without having to stop himself is after Montreal ousts him. he’s convinced himself he’s okay, that moving to Ottawa is a good thing, but one day, as he’s cleaning the house he comes across a photo of one of his cup wins, of the happiness he had and brotherhood with his former friends that he now realises was completely conditional.

For the first time since he was a kid, he cries himself out, mourns the friendships he thought he had — Ilya finds him, holds him and tells him it’s not his fault and that no matter what, he’ll always have him
