Uma Thurman in Johnny Be Good (1988)
A day in the life of Tame ImpalaĀ

All lost in a book. Ā Another image that will never make it into the mainstream media.

I remember the first time I saw it, when the opening act was playing (and I didnāt give a shit about them, sorry Mexican dudes), a big guy came out from a door carrying it and placed it next to the stage, I was like āla Rickenbacker!!!ā³, shit was getting real.

āPlacebo_ PlaceboĀ (1996)
"Sonically we tried to capture a sort of drug-induced sexual rush. Itās got a rising car sound which was meant to reproduce the first rushes of E, and itās obvious that the character is drug-crazed and sex-crazed at that moment. There are times in your life that you are really so far off your head that all you want to do is f*ck."Ā "Itās a celebration and a slag of that kind of behaviour at the same time. It doesnāt promote promiscuity but it doesnāt judge it either. It pokes fun at classic macho phrases - āIād f*ck her with a paper bag on my headā, ādonāt look at the mantelpiece while youāre poking the fireā, et cetera. And words like queer and fag. When you appropriate them for yourself, they start to get attached with your own power.Ā āāEyeholes in a paper bag, greatest lay I ever hadā - itās just saying that the drag queen in the song is probably very ugly but is attempting to reach some kind of beauty. I guess itās saying that you can be ugly and be an amazing lay; that it doesnāt really matter.Ā The song also has a dig at "people who think itās fashionable to be gay - guys who think that because āsome of my best friends are gayā that they are going to try it out because they are in a milieu where itās cool, but they havenāt actually had the desire themselves. In the song, Iām questioning peopleās reasons for sleeping with someone of the same sex. In the same way that heroin is very hip today, being bisexual seems to be very chic.""

āPlacebo_ Without You Iām NothingĀ (1998)
"Oh yeah, but who wouldnāt, given the possibilities? The first album dealt with sex ā sex in every possible variety, sex on drugs, sex with⦠you get the drift. Without You Iām Nothing deals with the consequences of sex, of relationships and all that. The big come down.Ā The new album is introverted, more of a post-coital depression. It deals with an ever-pervading heartbreak and loneliness that seems to be in the air. The morning after is usually more analytical than the night before, and itās often more painful.Ā Most of these are love songs where Iām trying to come to grips with relationships. Theyāre frequently told from the point of view of ex-lovers, so at first it may seem like Iām being arrogant, but actually Iām eating humble pie. Iām cutting into a vein and letting it bleed for you. "Pure Morning" is about that time of day when the sun is coming up and youāre coming down. Everybody else is getting ready to go to work and youāre feeling incredibly dislocated from the rest of the world."
